Welcome to the August edition of the U2 WikiProject Newsletter. As you may have noticed, we are now doing themed newsletters. This one (if you haven't already guessed) is How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. Every month the newsletter will have a different theme. There will also be a special edition when the new album is released. Also thanks to Neranei for some of the U2 news.
New Members
We have two new members since the start of the month! They are Vero444 and MC. We now have 38 members!
Last month's newsletter incorrectly stated that there were 34 members. This should've been 36. Also, under the "U2 News" section, line 3, instead of saying most recent single it should've said most recent song (this has since been corrected). The editors sincerely apologize for any misunderstandings this may have caused. The correct version of the July newsletter can be found here.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
All members of the U2 Wikiproject please note that voting for the next collaboration of the fortnight starts on THE 12TH OF AUGUST. Please visit the collaboration department for more details.

On front cover of All That You Can't Leave Behind is a very subtle Biblical reference. In the background J 33-3 can be seen. This is a reference to verse 33 of chapter 3 of the book of Jeremiah: "Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and hidden things which you have not known."

The Album
The album was released on October 30, 2000.
It debuted at #1 in 28 countries and sold over 12 million copies worldwide.
This album marked the end of U2's experimental phase in the 90's. However, they did not really return to their more traditional rock sound until How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb.
We are updating the project membership. Please see the message left on you talk page or contact Smithcool or Neranei for more info.

Welcome to the October Edition of the U2 WikiProject Newsletter. The theme for this newletter is "Pop". We hope you enjoy it!
New Members
We have 3 new members! They are Patr1ck 1reland, Macphisto12 and 75pickup . We now have 43 members.
The Album
"Pop" was released on March 3, 1997.
It reached #1 in 32 countries and sold over 1 million copies; it is one of U2's lowest-selling albums.
"Pop" is considered one of U2's most experimental albums.
Critical reviews were very mixed of the album, being called "an album of great pop" by Rolling Stone magazine, but "an easy record to admire, but a hard record to enjoy" by All Music Guide.
The band has remixed several songs from this album, such as "Discothèque", "Staring at the Sun", and "Please".
U2 was hurried into finishing the album because they scheduled the PopMart Tour before completing the album, and have said on several occasions that the album is not the way they envisioned.

On September 28, Bono was jointly awarded the Philadelphia Liberty Medal along with DATA. The medal is awarded to recognize leadership in the pursuit of freedom. Three U.S. Presidents, Nelson Mandela, Viktor Yushchenko, Colin Powell and Kofi Annan are among those who have been awarded it. In his acceptance speech, Bono spoke of those who don't have their liberty and urged Americans to keep working to solve the world's problems. More info here.
U23D, U2's upcoming movie, will not be released until early next year.
U2's recent biography, U2 By U2, is now available in paperback in the U.S.
The 20th anniversary edition of The Joshua Tree will be released soon; the bonus content includes the Red Hill Mining Town video, often sought by fans.
Welcome to the November edition of the WikiProject U2 Newsletter. This month's theme is Zooropa, one of U2's most experimental albums. We hope you enjoy reading it!
New Members
The Album
Zooropa was released on July 6, 1993.
This album, along with Pop, is considered one of U2's most experimental.
It was originally slated to be an EP, but expanded into an LP.
It was recorded in between legs on the Zoo TV Tour.
Zooropa features a rare lead singing performance by The Edge, on the song Numb.
The names of three unfinished songs from the recording sessions -"Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me", "If You Wear That Velvet Dress", and "Wake Up Dead Man"- appear superimposed on the cover; "Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me" was used in the Batman Forever soundtrack, and "If You Wear That Velvet Dress" and "Wake Up Dead Man" were included on 1997's "Pop".
"Numb" was released in an unlikely format as the first "video single"; the "Numb" video is thought of as one of U2's best.
"Some Days are Better Than Others" is the only track to have never been played live.

Welcome to the December issue of WikiProject U2's newsletter! This month's theme is Achtung Baby, generally considered one of U2's great masterpieces. We hope you enjoy reading it!
New Members
The Album
Achtung Baby was released on November 19, 1991, and followed with the massive Zoo TV Tour.
The album represents a marked change in U2's sound, coming after Bono's Lovetown Tour announcement that the band was going to "go away and dream it all up again".
Achtung Baby is one of U2's most critically acclaimed albums, sometimes called one of rock's best.
Despite the "thin layer of trash" on the record, Achtung Baby is markedly darker than some of U2's earlier work.
The U.S. album cover is the only one to feature an uncensored picture of Adam naked on the cover montage.
"Achtung baby" means "Careful, baby" or "Attention baby"; it was used frequently during recording, and came from the Mel Brooks film The Producers.
If you would like to contribute on the revamping of the WikiProject, please visit the project page, where you can join the discussion and see a list of open tasks. You may also contact our project coordinator Miss Bono. If you would like to help out with future newsletters, please contact the Outreach Department.

Welcome to the latest edition of the WikiProject U2 newsletter.
This issue's theme is Rattle and Hum U2's somewhat maligned half-studio, half-live album. We hope you enjoy it!
Rattle and Hum was released on 10 October 1988.
This album was the accompanying soundtrack to the movie of the same name.
The name “Rattle and Hum” is taken from a lyric to "Bullet the Blue Sky", from The Joshua Tree, saying "In the locust wind, comes a rattle and hum / Jacob wrestled the angel, and the angel was overcome."
During the famous performance of "Pride" in the movie, Bono spray-painted a San Francisco statue with the words "Rock N Roll Stops The Traffic." This caused a fair amount of controversy, and the band had to publicly apologize and repair the damage.
During the performance of "Sunday Bloody Sunday" in the movie, Bono went into a long mid-song rant about the Enniskillen bombings earlier that week, capping the rant with a cry of "Fuck the revolution!"
The band chose to film the black and white footage over two nights Denver's McNichols Sports Arena on 7 and 8 November 1987. They chose the city following the success of their "Under A Blood Red Sky" video which was filmed in Red Rocks Amphitheatre near Denver in 1983. "We thought lightning might strike twice" said guitarist, The Edge. The first night's performance was disappointing with Bono finding the cameras infringing on his ability to play to the crowd.[21] The second Denver show was far more successful and seven songs from the show are used in the film, and three on the album.
