Welcome Comments

[edit]

I clean up my talk page from time to time. Any comments or discussions are welcome. My interests include several engineering subjects, quality, environmental issues, standardization, and some other topics.

Archiving

[edit]

Hi,

Though you're allowed to simply delete posts from your own talk page, archiving is generally preferred. There's a couple bots that can do it for you if you' want. Pasting the following at the top of your talk page should do it (not that it'll be invisible outside of the edit pane).

{{User:MiszaBot/config |maxarchivesize = 250K |counter = 1 |algo = old(7d) |archive = User talk:Rlsheehan/Archive %(counter)d }}

Citation

[edit]

Have you had a chance to review WP:V, WP:CS, WP:RS, and WP:ATT yet? On wikipedia, since anyone can add anything, all content must be verifiable. We do that by citing reliable sources. You have added content to the Mary page that is not verifiable, so I have added "citation needed" tags. If you know where you got this information, please supply a citation. Unfortunately, we can't cite users' own personal knowledge, and we are pretty strict about this because we have to in order to make sure Wikipedia can be trusted for information in light of the fact that anyone can add anything to articles. If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask. Thanks for your consideration.-Andrew c [talk] 21:43, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This user seems to think that his views are neutral. I think you should take a look at Talk:Bible. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 02:09, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that some of the material can go into Biblical archaeology‎. Facts must be properly cited and conclusions must not be overstated. Rlsheehan (talk) 12:56, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Plastics applications

[edit]

Hi...I see that you have added the category:plastics applications to blow molding and vacuum forming. I don't think that it is the right category for those articles, as those are processes for forming and creating parts from plastic. I believe that cat is for articles that are about plastic products. I would like your side of the story though before I just remove them. Wizard191 (talk) 16:03, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Corrugated fiberboard

[edit]

Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Corrugated fiberboard. While objective prose about products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Thank you. [1] [2] --Ronz (talk) 22:31, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bottles in Water hammer

[edit]

I removed this, as is it not really very helpful. Yes, a pressure wave is produced when you drop a bottle, but then what happens? it propogated upwards to the top of the bottle, and then..... As I wote in my change, you need a good number of pipe diameters for the wave to be of large magnitude. Also, the intorduction was probably the wrong place to put that section. Water hammer typically occurs due to the closing of a valve in a pipe, or some equivalent action. Sorry about being a bit propriotous about this article, but when I first got to it it was all wrong, so I try to keep it reasonably clean. I have conducted a reassessment of the above article as part of the GA Sweeps process. I have found some concerns which you can see at Talk:Textual criticism/GA1. I have placed the article on hold whilst these are fixed. Thanks. Jezhotwells (talk) 18:44, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Load Securing article - apology

[edit]

Hi, I am the person who wrote the article on Load Securing, and unintended made some serious mistakes such as creating a commercial external link. I just went to the articles that I edited to remove the same links I added to some articles related to the topic of Load Securing. I saw you already took care of this. I want to sincerely apologize for making this mistake. I am totally new to the game and thought by not mentioning a company name, but stating it as a "supplier" giving people a choice to take a look or not, was okay. It will not happen again. --Astrid Groeneveld (talk) 20:37, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

One more question for you. I see that you added Standards at the bottom of the article. These are all in read, so non-existing links. Is there a reason why you created non-existing links? Just curious - it's all new to me. --98.144.124.109 (talk) 00:24, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I did not create the red links but I have fixed them. Rlsheehan (talk) 16:35, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your caption states this is steel strap, but from the image the strap look light in color. I'm not saying it can't be steel, but it sure doesn't look like steel, because all the steel strap I've seen has been black or brown. The only light colored straps I've seen are plastic. Wizard191 (talk) 18:54, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I removed the type of material. thanks Rlsheehan (talk) 19:04, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Keep up the good work. Wizard191 (talk) 19:36, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Packaging and labeling

[edit]

Hello, I have had another look at it and think I would rate it at C. Most of my work is with history, language, etc. Possibly it could be given a B rating once it had been checked off against the B class checklist.--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 18:58, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think you have a diferent idea about how assessment can be done: articles in different projects do not have to be assessed in a particular way, e.g. WP:Military History has stricter procedures than most projects. This is some information about making sure that B class is the right rating Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/B-class FAQ but as a non-member of WP:Business I am not familiar with the way things are done there. You can just assess it again at a higher level of class and/or importance.--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 08:47, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Assessing

[edit]

I never challenge others assesses or read the book to them - If you dont like it change it - I am mainly tagging for projects not assessment - cheers SatuSuro 00:06, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah well I have been tagging for a number of projects recently - and really I have not bothered to even raise my eyes to the assessment issue - there are so many unassigned categories and other things - It is simply not in my focus recently SatuSuro 00:17, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Packaging machinery among other things

[edit]

I see you a main contributor to the Packaging article. I'm a member of the packaging machinery industry and I think as a whole we have enough valuable content, and a growing number of educated contributors, to expand the Packaging Machinery section into an article. I know there are a lot of people in my community chomping at the bit to just start posting, deleting, and making a mess of this niche's content. Let me know what you think, and how we can work together to expand that section. Pmmi michael (talk) 19:03, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes there can be a good article on packaging machinery. Note that Wikipedia is strict about not having advertising nor links to corporate web pages that may be considered as promotional. Rlsheehan (talk) 22:10, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I understand those rules perfectly. Thanks for the feedback. I'll ensure the other packaging machinery contributors know that as well. Pmmi michael (talk) 18:22, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:46, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please elaborate further on your claim that the article is an advertisment. It is a factual account of how portable digital pharmacy equipment evolved. Prior to 1967 only mechanical sorting equipment was used by manufacturers of pharmecutical products. The local community pharmacy could not suuport the investment needed for the equipment that was available in the past. It is not possible to remove associations with the inventors or any remaining companies withouf losing continuity. The development of the design has been accurately recorded with images of historical stages of development. The original article has been rewritten twice to minimise the emphasis on the companies.Francis E Williams (talk) 09:42, 21 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Have another look and if you feel that sufficent changes have been made to make the article more neutral then perhaps you might remove the tag.Francis E Williams (talk) 10:43, 21 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

manufacturers list on Industrial Robot

[edit]

I realize the list is marginal but it *is* helpful and some of it *is* notable, that's why it's been there for such a long time - at least 5 years to my knowledge. Suddenly you ride out of the sunset like Genghis Kahn and delete the lot. Wouldn't some discussion have been fair first, with those of us who have worked hard to maintain this section? Robotics1 (talk) 01:05, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

update - After entry by Leaderpro "maintaining this section" is a constant battle against people wanting to list their favourite company. Best rid of the whole section after all. Robotics1 (talk) 21:42, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A common problem

[edit]

Dear Wikipedist editor, I want to submit to your attention an our common problem: disruptive contributions and edit warring operated by user Derek farn (talk). This latter shows systematically a provoking behaviour and lacking of respect for other people’s work, typical of vandalism. I’ve sent this communication to many people having the same problem in order to organize a collective protest/action request directed to e.g. the Arbitration Committee or Requests for comment/User conduct (this latter procedure requires the participation of at least two users) or to the Wikipedia Community. If you agree with this initiative please contact me at this dedicated email address: clipeaster-1971 AT yahoo DOT com. In order to avoid creating of a forum section dedicated to Derek farn I suggest you to delete this communication once you’ve read it and, then, be in contact via email. Any suggestion are welcomed. I look forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Structuralgeol (talk) 17:44, 15 July 2011 (UTC).[reply]

As another user pointed out to me that suggesting to be in contact outside wikipedia is not a correct way, for transparency reasons, so I conclude that we need to correspond via talk page. Best regards, Structuralgeol (talk) 02:29, 16 July 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Tylenol package - tamper resistant.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Tylenol package - tamper resistant.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Energy crisis

[edit]

I note that you decided upon yourself to remove about one third of the content from the energy crisis article, claiming that is was covered on the Mitigation of peak oil. However this is not true, many things you removed are not even mentioned on the mitigation article. If there was some duplication it didn't matter. You have also left the article with one reference. - Shiftchange (talk) 14:26, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I added a section and a reference. I removed excess(?) material from the discussion of Mitigation. If there is some material you want to keep, I suggest it be moved to the main article on Mitigation. Thanks for your feedback. Rlsheehan (talk) 17:47, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Industrial Robotics table of manufacturers

[edit]

In industrial robot there was a table of manufacturers with national flags. Back in 2010 you removed this table as it had been growing out of control and became a battleground for listing every manufacturer with links to their sites. I disagreed with you at first but then agreed and the table was finally dead by Feb 2011. Now Andreas-B has put in a new table with a partial list of manufacturers. I just removed it. If you still agree this is a bad idea then I would appreciate your support if necessary. Robotics1 (talk) 12:24, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I noticed that you made a number of edits to Technical documentation over the years. It's such a wide genre that it's a shame the article is as threadbare as it is now. What do you think are the chances that, upon beefing up the article, there could even be an accompanying template one day? MezzoMezzo (talk) 11:15, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for rating this. Could you please expand though on why you see this (per the project scale) as "quite incomplete and, most notably, lacks adequate reliable sources." ? The others you rated at the same time (Starter (engine), Fluid coupling, Otto engine) are much bigger and more important topics, yet each has poor, near-incomprehensible articles with almost no narrative structure – and you rated all those as C class. Course plans

[edit]

Just a couple of comments. In the UK, what used to be called Novice is now Grade 3 and that could be a novice course. In addition, maps like that, in the UK, are almost always only used by Judges to plan course and then by a judge and ring manager to lay out a course. Handlers don't see the maps. Maybe I should put these comments on the talk page. Dougweller (talk) 22:06, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I saw that you removed the image Tychem coverall.jpg from the Tyvek page for duplicate purposes. The coveralls were made of Tychem, another product developed by Tyvek. Tychem is mentioned in the sixth bullet point under "Uses" and I thought the image could show the difference between Tychem coveralls and Tyvek coveralls. Do you still think they are too similar or would the Tychem image be beneficial to the page? Thank you, Kelsey246! (talk) 14:08, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
