Rollback (add request)

User:Cliff

I have recently been doing quite a bit of editing on my phone. Rollback would be nicer than waiting for my phone to load the edit page when items on my watchlist are vandalized. Thanks for your consideration. Cliff (talk) 05:39, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Question: What are your views on warning vandals after reverting their edit(s) ? Also is it ever OK to issue a level 2 or 3 warning for a first time vandal ? Mlpearc powwow 06:56, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done The reverts I saw were okay, including a willingness to revert themselves sometimes too. Acalamari 16:16, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
@ Acalamari, I would of liked to have seen an answer to my question first. Mlpearc powwow 16:56, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I do not routinely warn vandals after reverting. Many of the reverts I do are for IP edits, and I do not expect that the persons vandalizing are aware of their talk pages since the attacks do not seem sophisticated. For vandals who are insistent or repetitive I will warn. I am not fluent with the warning levels, but will make myself aware of them soon. Sorry for the delay, only now saw the question.Cliff (talk) 08:46, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problem on the time frame, it was a general question. Thank you for your reply, happy hunting. Mlpearc powwow 09:58, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am a recent changes patroller using Twinkle. This feature would enable me to revert vandalism quickly.   Abhishek   Talk to me 09:58, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Toddst1 recently removed rollback from your account, due to misuse. Have you talked to Toddst? If I were to grant you this flag back, how do you plan to use it?
He seems to be not quite active. I have learnt a lesson (though the removal was during a mistake I had not realised). I would use it with utmost precaution and to only revert vandalism.   Abhishek   Talk to me 11:13, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've left a message on his talk page. I'd rather give him some time to respond, if he so wishes. Salvio Let's talk about it! 11:24, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: Abhishek continues to have a strong tendency to edit war. See recent discussion related to TW and further warnings on Abhishek's talk page circa June 2. S/he also remains on the blacklist for WP:TW for the same problem. Toddst1 (talk) 13:28, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your defaming words against me.   Abhishek   Talk to me 15:02, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Is that a legal threat? Reaper Eternal (talk) 12:42, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'd say it's venting; still a violation, however. Salvio Let's talk about it! 01:30, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm staying out of this one. Mlpearc powwow 01:33, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to be granted rollback privileges on the English Wikipedia. I believe vandalism is something that is undoubtedly pointless and trivial. I have been using Twinkle and have successfully reverted vandalism and reported a number of users. Before I used Twinkle, I used the standard "undo" feature to remove vandalism when I spot it. I have made about 250 edits in the article namespace now; I request the privilege because I wish to, quickly and easily, remove vandalism. I believe I have garnered enough experience to be granted the privilege. Bryce53 | talk 05:31, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done Edit history looks good, plenty of experience reverting vandalism, clean block log, no evidence of edit warring. Keep in mind that rollback is for vandalism fighting only.--v/r - TP 14:22, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User:I Jethrobot

I've been enjoying doing patrol for vandalism on recent changes using Twinkle and Lupin's anti vandal tool (it is tons of fun!) and I think I am ready for rollback. I, Jethrobot drop me a line 07:19, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User:Mathonius

Hello, I'd like to request rollback privileges on this project to help fight vandalism. I'm used to this function as a sysop on nl.wiki. A week ago, I joined the Small Wiki Monitoring Team and also started fighting vandalism here (with Twinkle). I believe I'm doing a good job and I hope that I have enough experience to be granted the rollback bit on this project. :) Yours sincerely, Mathonius (talk) 19:09, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have used Twinkle as a "real practice", and now I think I am ready for the proper tool. --J (t) 12:57, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Can you explain why you felt this edit was vandalism? It appears to be a good faith edit in userspace that broke a table. Likily the user themselves who forgot to login.--v/r - TP 16:32, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not done. You have little to no recent experience fighting real vandalism here on Wikipedia. If you want the rollback tool, show us that you need it! Go to Special:RecentChanges and make 50 or so proper vandalism reverts. Once you have done that, come back and request the tool again. -FASTILY (TALK) 20:50, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User:JoeSperrazza

I have a number of articles on my watchlist, and also, during free time, do review contributions of new users. Rollback would help when needed. Note: I've been on Wikipedia since April 2007 and have over ([1] + [2] = 11,000) edits. My username I originalled edited under, User:4wajzkd02, has rollback rights and I used it appropriately. (I changed usernames in the interest of openness, have it linked to my username, and had no blocks or bans associated with my original account. I have never had any other accounts. I was recommended in a talk page(now archived). I am constantly reverting vandalism as my contributions will show. I was told that rollback mixed with huggle is better than twinkle. I'd like rollback rights. Anything to help will be great. Thanks KING OF WIKIPEDIA - GRIM LITTLEZ (talk) 07:27, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User:Gorlack36

Hi, I want to request rollback as it would greatly speed up being able to revert vandalism aswell as enabling me to use Huggle which is something I would like to use as I feel it would make combating vandalism that much easier. I am also aware my account is not old but I feel I can be responsible enough to not misuse it, thank you. Gorlack36 (talk) 14:17, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done I saw that you admitted to edit warring under an IP. It appears you've learned your lesson even though it is recent. That said, you appear to have a lot of vandalism fighting experience in the last few weeks. If edit warring continues, these permissions may be removed. Keep in mind that rollback is only to be used for vandalism fighting.--v/r - TP 18:53, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Undone per objections. I've reverted my decision to grant rollback rights based on what appears to be community consensus that it was a mistake.--v/r - TP 18:54, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The same reason that almost all others request this tool—quick reversion of oneself and vandalism. Now, you ask why my rollback flag was revoked in December 2010? Because of this idiot who was editing against clear consensus. I will avoid at all costs a repeat of such scenario, and I did indeed let down when the same idiot that caused me trouble in December 2010 reappeared. I have since then learned to allow others to revert (yes, sysops using rollback) such edits, and during content disputes, I have almost always followed BRD, be it discussing with the opposing party on their user talk, or using the article talk page. Some evidence:
  • Recently, I had the opportunity to revert Tibetsnow's edits at Lhasa but I didn't.
  • At Republic of China, I was more serious at taking the issue to the talk page during the second dispute (June) than during the first (late May).
  • The bulk of my edits do not involve content disputes centred on political issues.
Note his comment in my user rights log. —HXL's Roundtable and Record 18:23, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You've got to be kidding me. I thought you learned your lesson last time, but I suppose you just really can't teach and old monkey new tricks. Slakr notified. -FASTILY (TALK) 20:08, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I originally yanked his flag because he used it to edit war, then I never restored it, because each time he asked for it back, he had still been edit warring. Additionally, this guy has gotten progressively uncivil about the rollbacker flag and has become hostile toward people who decline his requests—even to the point of threatening Fastily, the last admin who declined his RfR, due to an unrelated request on WP:RFPP. Taken in concert, I'd be extremely hesitant to give him +rollbacker any time soon. Furthermore, I'm starting to consider adding a rights log dummy edit to rescind my original "feel free to restore" comment. --slakrtalk / 20:26, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Uncivil? Edit warring? What about this time, eh? Comment on what occurred from 12 June to now, not the past. Take a look at this response, if you will. That's all I have in mind for now. —HXL: 聊天 (T) 貢獻 (C) 20:32, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Admins on Wikipedia are typically multi-faceted, because as part of volunteering for the job, we tend to be needed in multiple locations and help whenever and wherever it's most needed at any given time. In our spare time—lol...if we have any—Fastily and I volunteer to handle requests on several request boards, including WP:RFPP and WP:CSD. It therefore becomes problematic when a user demands that an admin not service any of his requests on other boards because he doesn't like one particular decision on one particular board. You have to realize that we're not out to get you, and we actually want people to help us so that we don't have to do everything ourselves. That said, if the would-be helpers we're charged with vetting are demonstrating characteristics that the community would clearly frown upon (e.g., violating policies and guidelines), we typically choose to be risk-averse and decline requests for enhanced permission sets until a user develops a clear track record of following those policies and guidelines. --slakrtalk / 21:30, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid that doesn't at all answer my question about myself, not the two of you. See the latest ANI thread I have posted and comment there if you wish. —HXL: 聊天 (T) 貢獻 (C) 22:00, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Note to the closing admin: There is an ongoing ANI thread regarding this rollback request. I would also like to add that I am strongly against granting rollback to this user at this time. -FASTILY (TALK) 22:45, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
