Area code 570
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Area code 570 is a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania telephone area code which serves the northeast corner of the state including the cities of Williamsport, Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, and Sayre. Area code 570 was split from area code 717 on December 5, 1998.
As the area code is near exhaust, an overlay has been approved. The new area code will be 272.[1] It was anticipated that 272 would have gone into effect as early as March 1, 2011, although due to successful number conservation, that date has been pushed back to an undetermined date, likely in 2012.[2]
