[edit] Opinions

  • 2011-09-04 Andrew G. West performed unethical research.
  • 2011-02-09 When looking at a diff of changes to several separate paragraphs, there should be an option to revert just the change to one paragraph.
  • 2010-10-02 There needs to be a search just for each article's history. This would allow you to find when certain content was added or went missing.
  • Most TV episode lists should include fair use screenshots.
  • Ads on Wikipedia: I don't want ads on Wikipedia unless donations can't cover costs, but I'm curious as to how much money can be generated from 24 hours of Google text ads placed under the interlanguage links.

[edit] Donations

2002 MS Proof.png

Wikipedia and other Wikimedia Foundation projects are valuable resources, but it takes more than volunteers to keep it running. See where the money goes. But the quick staffing numbers increase makes me nervous. I may stop donating.

  • 2005-08-02 $20

Tip of the day...

The lead section

The lead section is the text before the first heading.

In the source text (the text in the edit window), a heading looks like this:

== This is a heading ==

The lead section is a very important part of every article. The length should correspond to the overall length of the article: an article of 50,000 characters might well have a three paragraph lead, while one of 15,000 or less should limit itself to one or two paragraphs. The text itself should give a good overview of the article, but it should also get the reader hooked and interested in learning more. Take a look at some featured articles for inspiration.

It's often a good idea to align a representative image with the lead by placing [[Image:Filename.jpg|thumb|caption]] just before the section. (Where Filename is the name of the desired file and caption is a description of the image).
