permissions-commons@wikimedia.org or photosubmission@wikimedia.org?
You're my best VRT/OTRS contact, among other sterling qualities. I may have finally cajoled, begged, and pleaded asked politely enough to get a photographer to release a photo for one of my articles. When I looked at the https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wikimedia_VRT_release_generator it now asks you to email the release to photosubmission@wikimedia.org on the last page - but it also links to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Volunteer_Response_Team for more details, which still says to email the release to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. I told the photographer the latter, but is one more correct? Do they both go to the same place? --GRuban (talk) 15:20, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
- ☺️ Awwww...GRuban, you are such a sweetheart...and with a great sense of humor. Same place...keeping in the mind the photographer is the one who must submit the release - it cannot be an email attachment from you. Atsme 💬 📧 18:29, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
How cool is that?
Interesting what Rutgers Engineers have done for 3-D printing. They used a couple of my squid images from Commons, a few videos and other images, and tentacley speaking, "combined with the light-sensing smart gel, the 3D-printed material changes color, resulting in a camouflage effect." Atsme 💬 📧 18:35, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
- Amazing. But I would like to mention that the Welsh word for squid is not "pysgodyn tantacliog" (puh-skod-in tentacly-og), or, in English, tentacley fish. It's actually sgwid. Thanks. -- Squidward Evancles123 (talk) 18:44, 18 March 2022 (UTC)

Sowell's quote
Thomas Sowell is a brilliant man...one of my heroes. In reading one of his quotes, I was reminded of a popular argument among some editors relative to the number of RS that published a particular opinion in the media echo chamber vs the proportion of prominence of that opinion in each of those published sources. The number that published typically wins over its prominence in the article or book.finished statement 16:45, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

NPPS
Hello Atsme! I am HouseBlaster, and I like to work with backlogs on Wikipedia. Would you be willing to train me as a NPP reviewer? I am a frequent vandalism fighter. When fighting vandalism, there are of course times when I have gone to revert something and discovered that a newbie got to it first. Welcoming and thanking them is probably the best part of working on Wikipedia, and NPP appears to give plenty of opportunity to interact with newer constructive editors. The first article I wrote was deleted, and while I have created a stub on a notable subject, I also feel that NPP school will be beneficial in my understanding of notability. In short, I think that NPPS will help me help others and improve my understanding this encyclopedia. Thanks, HouseBlastertalk 20:03, 10 April 2022 (UTC)

American paddlefish (Polyodon spathula) are one of only two remaining taxa in the Polyodontidae family, and the only living species in the genus Polyodon. They are among the largest and longest lived freshwater fishes in North America. - Sorry for the late response, Gerda – just so you'll know, I agree that, for the most part, women have long been given the short end of the notability stick. I've either read or been involved in some of the GNG/AfD/MERGE arguments over the past decade, and while Women In Red have made great strides in getting more biographies/BLPs of women published in WP, there's still a great imbalance, primarily because the coverage isn't readily available, doesn't exist, or it doesn't meet WP:N or GNG requirements. Many cultures still see women as inferior or subordinate, and don't write about them. I seriously doubt we'd get enough support for lowering the coverage requirements for stay-at-home/working/single Moms who were talented in their own right, and gave birth to, were married to, or had parents who were notable people. - I just got a chance to look a little deeper into the article. I don't think you have anything to worry about, sweetie. Even if someone decided it wasn't notable, they'd have to go through AfD and I don't think they'd get the consensus needed for deletion. You already have editors supporting it. The DYK result should also provide a convincing argument on its own. I have managed to save a few bios about women, and as long as I'm able, will continue to do my part. New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022
Hello Atsme,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 813 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 848 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Sweet
Love your new addition to your user page. I never had the opportunity to get to know Rexx and I may have run into Kudpung a time or two but I could be mistaken and only know them by what is left of them here, their words. I feel as though I know both of them well by what we do have of them. I know they both had an impact on many editors and the majority was positive. In turn all of you have had an impact on me. I know their exit from the project has left voids that have been extremely hard to fill. The work you do with NPP is not unnoticed. NPP is a very necessary but unappreciated task. But, as you can see above, there are those that see the need to continue the task and those that appreciate the ones that are involved in doing it. I just wanted to leave a message telling you, personally, how much you are appreciated and needed. We miss the ones that have left. We relish the memories we made with them. But we honor them by cherishing those we still have here. The ones that keep the project alive. --ARoseWolf 14:56, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

Dog attack
Just curious as to why you removed one of the entries at List of fatal dog attacks in the United States. It had reliable sources. 204.116.251.194 (talk) 05:44, 30 April 2022 (UTC)
- Apologies for the late reply, IP - but those sources may very well be considered RS; the problem is that the material provided was (1) local not nationally or globally encyclopedic, (2) it fails WP:V as to what actually happened, not to mention, WP:NOTNEWS, WP:NOTDATABASE and WP:NOTINDISCRIMINATE, and (3) the report itself was based on assumptions. Those fatal dog attack lists need a lot of work but I simply don't have the time for it right now. Atsme 💬 📧 23:01, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
Unreview of Blue Paul Terrier
Hello Atsme, thanks for your note on my talk page regarding the unreview of Blue Paul Terrier. I can see that it is a very old article about an extinct dog breed which was created more than 16 years ago, several editors had already edited this article and it was also the oldest article in que which was still showing as unreviewed and so because of these reasons, I had marked it as reviewed. But now I can see that the article has been unreviewed and nominated for deletion. Hence, may I know what are the issues with this article and why was it unreviewed? TheGeneralUser (talk) 12:41, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, TheGeneralUser - thank you for seeking input. I'll begin by saying that the Blue Paul Terrier (a) is not a bona fide breed, (b) it fails GNG and V, and (c) the authors of the only 2 cited sources even admit that the dog's origins are unknown. Isn't it a bit of a [stretch] for unpedigreed dogs with no official recognition to go extinct in the 1800s? Harris even used the words "...mysterious...", "...shrouded in uncertainty..." and "...the fable continued..." (pg 31-32 The Bully Breeds). See my reply at the AfD, and at the article TP where I had to deflect some PAs. That's the bad part of working NPP – deflecting PAs, hoping admins will work with you instead of against you when you PROD, CSD or AfD, especially when it's a content issue. Established, long term NPP reviewers have the curation tool advantage, and typically don't act without being confident of their choices. NPP is just as overworked as our admin force, and I'm hoping one day we will be able to work better together for the sake of our valuable volunteer time, and for the advancement of the project. I'm certainly not going to AfD an article that passes WP:N & WP:V. If it's problematic, I'd either send it to draft (if it's salvageable), or fix it myself, which is what I teach my NPP students. NPPS 3: Attack of the Canine
Hello, I hope you are well! I wanted to express my interest in attending your new page patroller school if a spot is open. My primary motivation (aside from wishing to assist the reviewing of new pages) is to receive direct 1-on-1 mentorship about some of the core content Wikipedia policies (e.g WP:NOTABILITY, WP:BLP, etc). While I have a passing understanding of them, I've never really put them into practice, as I've mostly stuck to just vandal fighting and answering edit requests. I commonly get lost in the weeds, despite being an editor with 3.5k edits and being about 1.5 years old, and so I tend bow out. I feel this course would give me the kick I need to understand them with enough depth to both perform the work of a new page patroller and more confidently assist the encyclopedia elsewhere (such as productively participating at discussions and both confidently add and review article content).
I look forward to hearing back from you, and cheers! —Sirdog (talk) 07:33, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Peacock Tag
Hello, you added a peacock tag on this page. If I understand correctly, you are questioning the neutrality of individual passages and/or a lack of sources. Can you name the text passages that you question? Preferably right here. I will rewrite or replace them if you do so.
Thanks and regards 84.154.96.65 (talk) 15:01, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, IP - I went ahead and cleaned it up a bit. See MOS:PEACOCK which will help you better understand why I tagged it. Also, in the future you should avoid adding citations within a sentence or after commas, and add them at the end of the sentence or paragraph. If you have to use different citations within the same sentence, you are probably non-compliant with WP:SYNTH. Happy editing! Atsme 💬 📧 16:50, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- Good, I guess i see your point now. There was no intention to be biased or to promote anything, but i called some movies "commercially successful", "quite succesful" "poorly received" that apparently irritated you while reading it. Such a predicate in summary is always somewhat subjective BUT no bad intention here since i see these expressions on many pages about actors and films. I added the cinematic sales as a source fpr it (but with no indication about the budget), mostly in the middle of a sentence and will remove them again. 87.152.234.178 (talk) 13:59, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- Apart from that, a second look in the grammar is definitely worth the effort. 87.152.234.178 (talk) 14:03, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

[1] that’s lots of money for something you can do yourself and someone left a review saying that we deleted it rather than approving it. 😂I would do some investigation but it is better left for the admins, it really is a bit of a scam though. | Zippybonzo | Talk | 08:18, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
Or this [2]? | Zippybonzo | Talk | 08:20, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
- - that explains our backlogged queue. And equally as interesting is this diff. The UPE disclosing UPE?? Unbelievable. We are at the give an inch, take a mile stage of COI. In the past, I suggested categorically dividing WP into Volumes using slightly different urls. For example, WP:Vol 10 Corps-NPOs-FPOs and the url would be along the lines of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki-corp/3M to hopefully create a Google search that keeps them separated from real encyclopedic content (taxonomy, species, history, etc.) It's a thought. NPP training
Hi Atsme, you probably know me for correcting that typo on your NPP training page, far as I know.
However, I think it's time to properly introduce myself: I'm 3PPYB6, a counter-vandal with about 8+ months' experience.
Despite all this, though, I really think I should become a more well-rounded editor by reviewing some new pages and really getting more experience in content creating.
So, if a spot is open, could I sign up for your NPP training? For clarity, no editor is in my same time zone but you're probably the closest I can get. Thanks! — 3PPYB6 — TALK — CONTRIBS — 13:15, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

Your NEQUESTRIAN proposal
I still recommend you take your suggestion to a relevant sports wikiproject for fine-tuning and then bring it back to NSPORT with a clearer RfC proposal. You should also read the prior discussions on the talk page, in particular this one, where the majority of sport-specific guidance was updated to reflect new consensuses from the WP:NSPORTS2022 RfC. If NEQUESTRIAN needs revising, which I assume it does given what you've said, it has to be done in line with how the rest of NSPORT operates and receive consensus support from the wider community. - The curly brackets represent tremors or earth shaking vibes radiating from the text. I don't participate in "drives" because my work at NPP focuses on other things, primarily to not rush a review. Unfortunately, drives encourage such behavior. Instead, I look for remedies to eliminate the root cause of backlogs, and help behind the scenes. I contribute to the review process during practice sessions with my trainees, and also review on my own when I have time. I carefully measure my time in each of the projects I work on, which includes my work as a VRT member on Commons, image uploads, en.Wiki content creator, team member for Project Dogs, Project Equine, and several others. Featured picture scheduled for POTD
Hi Atsme,
This is to let you know that File:Vincent van Gogh - Wheatfield with a reaper - Google Art Project.jpg, a featured picture you uploaded or nominated, has been selected as the English Wikipedia's picture of the day (POTD) for June 24, 2022. A preview of the POTD is displayed below and can be edited at Template:POTD/2022-06-24. If you have any concerns, please place a message at Wikipedia talk:Picture of the day. Thank you! Reaper is a series of three oil-on-canvas paintings by the Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh of a man reaping a wheat field under a bright early-morning sun. This is the second painting in the series, which Van Gogh appears to have completed in a single day in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France, while taking breaks to write a letter on 4–5 September 1889. In a later part of the letter, he announced: "Phew – the reaper is finished, I think it will be one that you'll place in your home". Van Gogh initially preferred this version over the earlier study, describing it as "an image of death as the great Book of Nature speaks to us about it – but what I sought is the 'almost smiling'. It's all yellow except for a line of violet hills – a pale, blond yellow. I myself find that funny, that I saw it like that through the iron bars of a cell." The painting is now in the collection of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Painting credit: Vincent van Gogh

Promotional hotel articles
With regard to AslamMurmu's 110 articles, I haven't looked, but if they are all owned by the same group, then of course UPE is very likely. For any that clearly don't pass notability guidelines, the answer is to plod through them all and CSD them and if there are any minor doubts, send them to AfD. That's what I used to do. He'll get notifications on his tp so if he still hasn't understood it will be a strong reminder. The big problem, especially for patrollers, is that as more countries in the traditionally developing world get better Internet connections, the Wikipedia will continue to grow, but en.Wiki is very fast becoming the 'Southasian Wikipedia in English' - if it isn't already, which makes NPP a very boring and thankless task to say the least. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 02:36, 1 July 2022 (UTC)

Notability of article
Hi, Atsme! I've been engaging in a discussion with an editor who claims to be the subject of Éamonn Ó Catháin. (Further background here and my removal of content here.) I've done my best to be understanding and explain policies on the editor's talk page, but he has indicated that he would prefer deletion. I don't know that WP:BLPREQUESTDELETE applies, but I'm not very experienced in notability so I figured it would be best to ask someone more experienced. Perfect4th (talk) 13:04, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- Perfect4th, start with this WMF article Right to Erasure. Based on my past experiences, when/if the BLP contacts the WMF, the WMF contacts WP:VRT for a response. I am also a member of VRT, and among the first things we would do is review the article & its TP to get up to speed. I would support exclusion of material about his family as they are neither directly associated with his notability as an author, chef or tv personality. Another thought to consider is WP:EXTRAORDINARY and all relative BLP requirements (multiple RS) before I would even consider keeping such material. As for the BLP itself, it could be argued that he is not notable, but the best way to resolve that question is via an AfD. His BLP is screaming for RS. hth ~ Atsme 💬 📧 17:52, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- Would it be best for the editor to contact the WMF then, or should the article go to AfD? Perfect4th (talk) 22:34, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- I suggest AfD and let the community decide. Atsme 💬 📧 00:39, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi Atsme,
Recently I found out about the patroll group, I understand the basics and have a high knowledge of what to do, I did have an account before this but I couldn't trace it back to the old password but I do remember it was years back and I was good at Wikipedia and I want to start again.
