WP:FILMS Questionnaire

As a member of WikiProject Films, you are invited to take part in the project's first questionnaire. It is intended to gauge your participation and views on the project. At the conclusion of the questionnaire, the project's coordinators will use the gathered feedback to find new ways to improve the project and reach out to potential members. The results of the questionnaire will be published in next month's newsletter. If you know of any editors who have edited film articles in the past, please invite them to take part in the questionnaire. Please stop by and take a few minutes to answer the questions so that we can continue to improve our project. Happy editing!
This has been an automated delivery by BrownBot (talk) 03:42, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, in case you haven't noticed, the article has [finally] had it's first {post-message) encounter with pro Scientology editors and I've had a fun morning with that (Apparantly neutral wording is a BLP violation, go figure). Anyway, I've been reading through some of the sources and stuff, and I would like to try to take it to GA if possible. I do have her book (although I haven't finished reading it) and the article is in okay shape. Would you mind putting together a filmography section (you're better at it than I am)? -- Scorpion0422 18:39, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Excellent, thank you. At the same time, I've been working on an article about her book here. What do you think of the content section? Should anything be added to it? (and feel free to make any edits you feel are necessary). -- Scorpion0422 15:21, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
If you have time, could you help me find a couple of articles? I can't access NewsBank at the moment. According to Google News [1] a NewsBank article in 1995 mentions the title of the book, could you find that article and see if it has any useful background info? Also, Cartwright's website claims the book made the LA Times best seller, list. Could you try and find a source? Thanks, Scorpion0422 15:52, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Phil Hartman

I sent a request to the author of the images, asking if we could use the first one. I looked through the other 300 images available for Phil Hartman and those were the only two that were free images. However, the author currently has them tagged for not using them commercially, but Wikipedia doesn't allow that so I had to ask if the author could change the license. I'll let you know if I receive permission for it. Good work on the article, I really enjoyed watching Hartman in films. Happy editing! --Nehrams2020 (talk) 19:38, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I'll be happy to do a copyedit. It'll probably take me a week or so, but I'll get to it when I can. If you don't hear from me by Saturday the 14th, drop me a reminder. Scartol • Tok 22:24, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
I haven't received a request yet for Hartman's image, but after looking at your Simpsons/Free-images list, I went searching on Flickr today and found you some of your needed images (more may be on the way as I await responses from authors). So far I have uploaded: Greg Berg (File:GregBergJan09.jpg, File:GregBergJuly08.jpg), Robert Goulet (File:RobertGouletMay07.jpg), Johnny Unitas (File:JohnnyUnitasSignAutograph1964.jpg), Roy Firestone (File:RoyFirestoneMay07.jpg), Andrea Martin (File:AndreaMartinJune08.jpg), Isla Fisher (File:IslaFisherGG09.jpg), and Jackie Mason (File:JackieMasonOct06.jpg). I'll keep you posted as I receive permission for more. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 08:48, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
More: Elvis Stojko (File:ElvisStojko2002.jpg), Daniel Clowes (File:DanielClowes06.jpg), & Werner Klemperer (File:WernerKlemperer975.jpg‎). --Nehrams2020 (talk) 10:55, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm really sorry for the delay — I've been sick and grades are due at school. But I should have some time this week, and I'm on the mend. Please remind me again on Wednesday if you haven't heard from me. Apologies again. Scartol • Tok 03:39, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I've done a thorough copyedit. I left a couple of comments on the talk page, but structurally the article is very sound. I can't comment on the thoroughness of the research, since I don't know how much is out there. I did notice a lack of mention of his comedy album Flat TV, and I know there are some SNL books out there — but how much they say about Hartman I don't know. Anyway, good luck with the article! Scartol • Tok 16:31, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Still no word on Hartman image, but now have Joe Mantegna File:JoeMantegnaMay08.jpg. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 00:53, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

A Fish Called Selma

I made some edits but I couldn't find any problem with the prose. Sorry. —TheLeftorium 18:35, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I know a while back you mentioned you were considering starting a Dan Castellaneta filmography page. Are you still interested in doing that, because I think it may be a good idea since his filmography dwarfs the rest of the article. I will be on IRC for the next few hours if you want to discuss there. -- Scorpion0422 17:01, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Scartol is currently copyediting Nancy Cartwright, so it will be FAC-ready soon. However, I know you wanted to submit Phil Hartman and I figured we should probably stagger the nominations. You should go first because you were ready first and I may have a different article to submit. -- Scorpion0422 18:28, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

I'll do a last scan of Nancy's book tonight and see if I can find anything else that might be of use. Are the images of Sinbad and Poco really necessary? -- Scorpion0422 18:40, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

I assume you will be watching In the Name of the Grandfather tonight? Could you please make sure you note the writer, director and guest stars? (it remains to be seen if Kenneth Branagh will appear. A new article says he has a cameo as himself) Thanks, ScorpionO'422 16:00, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

David Mitchell (2)

Since his work on radio has been prolific (more so than his film work) there's really no reason why it shouldn't be included, especially if you want to have a comprehensive article. Bradley0110 (talk) 09:54, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Startrekfirstcontact.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Startrekfirstcontact.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Simpsons best movie cameos

Hey Gran, how's everything? Just wanted to give you and Scorpion a head's up that Total Film has compiled their twenty favourite movie-related Simpsons cameos here. Enjoy incorporating. Alientraveller (talk) 09:25, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Interesting note: I'm pretty sure that a lot of the stuff (including images, facts and quotes) were taken from some of our wikipedia entries. Just about everything in the Patrick Stewart bit [2] is based on our Homer the Great page (especially the Patrick Stewart quote, I had to work hard to find that). -- Scorpion0422 02:08, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Pictures needed

Hey, there Gran2, I was just wondering please could find a picture to put on David Threlfall's and Steve McFadden' profile, as they are 2 that need one by the way you've uploaded some excellent photographs on to profiles, such as this one did you take that? becuase it's brilliant anyway if you could please do that it would be much appriciated anyway keep up the good work – 89.241.102.142 (talk) 14:29, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Any luck, on the picture front

Hey mate, just wondering did you have a look for a David Threlfall and Steve McFadden picture, only if you didn't find a picture of David I found a smashing one see here and here and did you find one for Steve? if not see here and here

Anyway let me know what you think — 89.241.97.66 (talk) 15:59, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Shearer v. Azaria

With the main voice actors GTC almost ready to go, I was wondering if we should consider getting another page to FA. The minimum Featured content requirement for FTs has been bumped up to 33%, so with 2/7, the topic is just under the threshold. Another FA would put it in solid FT territory. Of the five, I'd say Harry Shearer and Hank Azaria are closest because they are the most comprehensive. The Shearer page is longer, but Azaria's article has been around longer and is more polished, so it might be the best choice. What do you think? -- Scorpion0422 21:05, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

I do have a lot on my plate right now, and I have several other projects I should finish before tackling something new. So, I likely won't have time to work on Shearer's page, but I can pitch in a bit on Azaria's. -- Scorpion0422 21:57, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Also, if you do some google searching, you'll find some recent interviews from Azaria as promotion for that Night at the Museum movie. Some of those may be of use. -- Scorpion0422 22:39, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Cintiq

A bajillion years ago you asked what a cintiq is. I found a description of them at Wacom. :) Alientraveller (talk) 12:08, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Re:Guest stars

Sorry, I somehow missed your message. I think your design looks great, but don't use a forced table width. I suggest switched the episode no. format to "0101" or "20-01". That way, you won't need to use any sortability templates (I think). In fact, it might be useful to merge the number and episode columns together (since I doubt that being about to sort by episode title would be of much use). -- Scorpion0422 00:20, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

I think it looks best with the titles first. Perhaps it would look better with the number and episode title columns split up. I'm not sure. -- Scorpion0422 18:37, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey, I just noticed your work on the James L. Brooks article. Nice job! Theleftorium 14:37, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I don't think linking to the videos should be a problem. Using the {{Cite video}} template is probably the best idea. Theleftorium 22:04, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
{{Cite interview}} could be used too. Either one of those are probably fine. :) Theleftorium 22:09, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

That looks really good, actually. Nice work! But should Phil Hartman really be listed? Isn't he considered a part of the recurring cast just like Marcia Wallace (even though he's credited as a guest star)? Theleftorium 15:07, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, that makes sense I guess. And we can always remove him if the list gets too long once its finished. Theleftorium 15:19, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Excellent work! I'll try to help out with adding sources when I have time. Theleftorium 12:52, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Point taken. — BQZip01 — talk 16:39, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Well I actually picked it up from here where there was a link to a Wikinews article on the subject, but I have no objection to it being removed. As you rightly say, the article doesn't mention Button's six wins, so in order to be balanced these would also have to be included. TheRetroGuy (talk) 13:01, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

You've got a point. The article is currently 61kb long, so at the current rate it could reach 100 by the end of the year. That would be far too long and make reading it difficult. The things that could definitely go are some of the television related stuff as that has its own article, and I've copied some things across to this in the last few days. We also probably don't need to mention every soldier who is killed in action as this subject also has its own articles (see here and here), and we could just mention exceptional instances (eg the death of Rupert Thorneloe and when significant numbers are killed as was the case one day a few weeks ago). I suppose the Lord Darzi stuff could also go (I'd certainly not heard of him before he resigned). Let me know if you have any other ideas. I'll keep an eye on the article and perhaps have a go at consolidating it in the the next few weeks. Thanks TheRetroGuy (talk) 19:01, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
I'll also open a discussion on the talk page. Thanks TheRetroGuy (talk) 19:08, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Sounds good. Hopefully we can remove a lot of the unnecessary stuff. Thanks TheRetroGuy (talk) 19:20, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Alternative text for images in film articles

Hello, since the guidelines to add alternative text for images are being proliferated, I would like to ensure that the Good and Featured Articles under WikiProject Films have such text. Since you are a primary contributor to the articles listed below, I ask you to review the guidelines to add text to images in the body. For the image in the infobox, please add alt= above caption= and include alternative text in this field. For an example, see the text for Fight Club (film): alt. Here are your articles and a tool assessing them for alternative text:

Template:Infobox Simpsons episode doesn't need any changes, since you pass in the entire image syntax. E.g.:

{{Infobox Simpsons episode

| image = [[Image:Bart the Genius.jpg|200px|alt=Cartoon of balding fat man chasing ...]]
...
}}

I made some changes to the article and added a Swedish and a Norwegian source. Can you expand the lead a bit? Also, this sentence from the production section, "Jean has compared Sideshow Bob to Wile E. Hey gean i am planing to work on lisa for Fa and do you think this should be there

Hallmarks

In the opening sequence of many Simpsons episodes, the camera zooms in on Springfield Elementary School, it is shown that Lisa is seen being ejected from band rehearsal due to her non-conforming playing. She exits the room playing a saxophone solo, which sometimes changes. Some of the solos have similarities with pieces by Donovan, Frank Zappa, James Brown, and Charlie Parker.[1].

One of Lisa's hallmarks is playing the saxofone or the sax, in the episode Lisa's Sax she says that she practices one hour a day, it is also shown that she started playing the saxofone in 1990 where Homer buys it for her, because he discovers that a musical instrument is a way to encourage a gifted child. He sacrifices his air conditioner money to buy Lisa her first saxophone. He asked the clerk to engrave on the sax: "Dear Lisa. Never forget your daddy loves d'oh!", as Homer drops the saxophone.[2]--Pedro J. the rookie 01:41, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Re:Book

Yeah, there is some useable stuff in the guest stars chapter. I just added a bit to Simpson and Delilah (by the way, at the bottom of the page with the Fierstein quote, in my book it's pg 250, there is a note that there was a pilot developed by Mike Anderson and John Waters about John from Homer's Phobia). -- Scorpion0422 20:11, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

I think working on Sam Simon's would be a great idea, and I'll help where I can. Is it worth mentioning that John Ortved believes that his wanting to feature Simon in is book led to James L. Brooks telling employees not to get involved? I don't know if we have any reliable sources, other than Ortved's blog? I've been adding a bit of stuff from his book to articles - I clarified some things in the main article and updated George Meyer's page. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot about the characters, not even the family. There are some interesting notes (Krusty was based on Rusty Nails, but Simon developed him into the character he is) that really aren't really useable becaause of who says it. -- Scorpion0422 21:28, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Nicollette Sheridan on "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"

Unfortunately, the report on Nicollette Sheridan playing the role of Sybill Trelawney in the upcoming two-part feature Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows turned out to be nothing more than just a rumor. That's all it is...just a rumor. Here's the following link: http://nicollette-sheridan.net/news/rumor-control-nicollette-not-to-be-on-harry-potter AdamDeanHall (talk) 15:36, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Paul Merton

Did you know that your Paul Merton photo was published in the Have I Got News For You Guide to Modern Britain book? Bradley0110 (talk) 18:42, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

[8] They don't credit you for the image but since you released it as PD, they don't need to. It isn't used flatteringly (they captioned it "Paul Merton waiting for a train"). Don't waste your money on the book, it's pretty rubbish. Bradley0110 (talk) 19:51, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

The Simpsons Documentaries

Hi, I'm new here so I'm not really sure if this is the right place to post, but I will anyway. You asked for a summary of the Simpsons documentaries on Sky1.

Basically there are 3 specials. The first, Access All Areas, goes behind the scenes as to how it's made etc., with interviews with the actors and celebrity fans. The second, Mischief And Mayhem, looks at the Simpsons merchandise and has interviews with Simpsons devotees. The third, Celebrity Friends, features interviews with the celebrities who have been in the show. The three are narrated by Ricky Gervais, and are shown on 11th, 12 and 13th January. As I was away, I missed the second one and have so far only seen the first one, the third one is on tonight. I'm a fan of The Simpsons, but not a big fan, so there was a lot I didn't know. All of this may be common knowledge to bigger fans of the show, but it was a very enjoyable show for me. I hope this helps you. CCFC JP (talk) 13:21, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Barnstar

The Simpsons (Annoyed Grunt)-star
For the amazing work you've done at WP:DOH over the years, including your recent work with unreferenced BLPs. Keep up the good job! :) Theleftorium 20:07, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

I realize I've already given you two barnstars previously (although both were in 2007), but I think you deserve Wikipedia's most prestigious honour:

Scorpion0422's Not-so-Golden Woodpecker Award
For your excellent work sourcing and improving BLPs, and tackling the unenviable task of reading the "wisdom" of Mike Scully and improving his page. For this, and more, I award you the Golden Woodpecker Award. -- Scorpion0422 23:21, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

The Rich Appel quote is page 152. The Mike Scully section is 221-225. -- Scorpion0422 18:59, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

Should you ever feel the urge to improve David Silverman's page, I happened upon this interview in Newsbank that might be of use: Pincus, Robert L. (1995-10-19). "cartoon CRAZY (dude)". The San Diego Union-Tribune. -- Scorpion0422 00:31, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

So there's an IP trying to remove an Ortved quote from the Al Jean page. [9] The best part? This IP is registered to Fox, and has claimed to be Al Jean in the past [10] -- Scorpion0422 23:33, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Just so you know, in response to the IP's comments, I made two minor changes. I moved the quote to the side because having it in the middle of the text there presents it more as fact than opinion. I discussed it with a user on IRC, and they recomended that the "But it's undeniable that the bite in the satire and social commentary is no longer there" also be removed. -- Scorpion0422 01:16, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure what's going on with that other IP... It kind of reminds of that time that Nancy Cartwright's publicist removed most of the info about Scientology and her ex husband from her page. -- Scorpion0422 22:24, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Good luck, hopefully you can finally get one. And yes, I had noticed that. It would be nice to see him get recognition, even if he considered himself more American than Canadian... It should be interesting to see if it happens, especially since petitions have worked in the past (ie. Frances Bay). Today is also a milestone day because after almost three years, we finally have every classic era episode either at GAC, GA or FA. Within two months Homer Alone will be reviewed then we'll finally have our early goal completed. I think I'll be done with improving episode pages to GA, other than the odd current one. -- Scorpion0422 19:15, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Mike Scully

The Simpsons Star

I realize that I recently gave you a barnstar, but...

With the Simpsons WikiProject having reached it's goal of getting every single article about a season 1-9 episode, 203 in total, of The Simpsons to GA status. With that accomplished, I am trying to thank every member (and non-member) who was involved in the effort in some way.

The Simpsons (Annoyed Grunt)-star
WP:DOH has reached its long-time goal of getting every classic era episode, 203 in total, to GA. You earned this because you were quite heavily involved in the entire project project, and contributed a lot of hard work. -- Scorpion0422 II (Talk) 23:54, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Harry Potter: Evanna Lynch

WikiProject Harry Potter has been rather inactive recently. I've been working on the Evanna Lynch article lately, and have based it off the featured article Emma Watson. I thought I'd ask if you would like to collaborate on the article, as part of a possible WikiProject revival. Leave your response at the article's talk page. Thanks! Phil Hartman

Great job on getting an image. Does he have any others that he might be willing to give us? -- Scorpion0422 19:54, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

That's news to me, the new Canada's Walk of Fame inductees haven't been announced yet. I have mixed feelings about that. He definitely deserves the honour, but he considered himself to be American and most (if not all) of his achievements were outside Canada. Have you tried contacting Josh Weinstein via NHC? Back when Xihix first contacted Bill, he tried for both, but Josh's PM box was full. -- Scorpion0422 20:14, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Alt text thing

Well, this about 4 months late but remember when I deleted the alt text on Matt Groening? I didn't know what alt text was so I thought some vandal just wrote something obvious for no reason...sorry about that, I didn't know pages had that now. — Malcolm (talk) 21:19, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

"Treehouse of Horror XII"

Hi,

Please, can you explain me why you delete the sentence in the article "Treehouse of Horror XII"?

This sentence already existed when I only corrected (changing "right" by "left")

Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Arussom (talkcontribs) 23:42, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi again, I just watched this episode... what can I do to probe this? I dont know, maybe a caption?

Thanks Arussom (talk) 23:00, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Wow! Very difficult, I didn't write that it was a reference to Mad Eye Moody, I only changed "right" to "left" because it was the left eye of Homer that moved down... In this article (or this type of articles) ther are many references that are not properly referenced... Arussom (talk) 23:50, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Karanacs (talk) 17:37, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Emmy Award noms (which just fuel Al Jean's belief that the show is better than ever)

I was away for the last week, so I missed the excitement of the Emmy Award nominations. It saddens me that Anne Hathaway got a nomination for voice-over ahead of Harry Shearer (and that Nestor Carbonell got snubbed for Lost). As for the 20th Anniversary special, I don't think it hurts to mention it at the awards page, since the movie and a video game is included. According to our anonymous friend, Ortved's book is now the source of legal action. [11] I wish we could find a source for that, it would be a great bit for the article on the book. The funny bit about your latest encounter is that the statement wasn't even sourced to Ortved. -- Scorpion0422 23:51, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Wow, impressive! Nice work. :) Theleftorium (talk) 14:07, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

That's a shame. Probably has something to do with the whole Sit Down, Shut Up dispute. :/ Theleftorium (talk) 15:05, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
Excellent, thanks! I'll work more on the article tomorrow. This should also be helpful. Theleftorium (talk) 22:10, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Indeed. I think we should have a "real" merge discussion about this if the AfD is closed as "no consensus" or "keep". Theleftorium (talk) 22:32, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Exactly. I hate the fact that people think we are inclusionists just because we are members of the project. Theleftorium (talk) 22:49, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

I checked an episode from the first season and it credits Richard Gibbs. -- Scorpion0422 17:39, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Also, according to IMDB, Arthur B. Rubinstein was the composer for two episodes (Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish and Bart Gets an F). -- Scorpion0422 17:41, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

While I'm away, could you keep an eye on Apocalypse Cow? A user has been adding unsourced music info in the plot section, and he has vowed on the talk page [12] to keep inserting it, using the old "the fans need to know what that song is" argument. -- Scorpion0422 02:14, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

I've been in contact with Maggie Roswell and it looks like she will release an image of her for Wikipedia. w00t. :) Theleftorium (talk) 16:51, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

I would, there seems to be some problems (see User_talk:Moonriddengirl#OTRS_for_Maggie_Roswell_images) so I don't want to bother her again. :P Theleftorium (talk) 20:11, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
Finally! :-) Theleftorium (talk) 18:32, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm nominating Roswell soon. Not sure about Frink though, there's some original research in "Role in The Simpsons" section that I think needs to be sourced/removed. Theleftorium (talk) 19:01, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

You did amazing work on this article! Quick question: The Sharon Waxman/USA Today article you're citing...can I ask how you got the full text? I'm only able to get an abstract through my university's library, for some reason, and am trying hard to find a copy of the full text. Would you mind sharing? If so, I'll leave my e-mail address. Well done for remembering, I'd certainly forgotten. Gran2 23:29, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
Thank you. Hey can i ask you a question how did you guys write the themes section of The Simpsons. --Pedro J. the rookie 20:57, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
I don't know, I didn't really have all that much to do with it. Does Family Guy have themes? Gran2 21:34, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
I think so but what are themes. --Pedro J. the rookie 21:41, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
I guess things like, how does the show deal with politics, culture, religion etc. Does it have viewpoints or messages about life? That sort of stuff. Gran2 21:48, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
Well it has various messages from different viewpoints such as they have a Jewish character, one character is an atheist, its done various episodes on GLBT, they have criticized bush, a character dropped out of college and returned to fail but without cheating...is that helpful. --Pedro J. the rookie 22:02, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
I guess. Has there been much discussion of things like that in the media? Has Seth ever said what the show's views are? Gran2 22:04, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
He has not really said much but what i recall is that he always uses the character Brian as his voice on the show having mostly his thoughts(examples both are atheists, both have the same gay and political view) but i do not recall much of anybody saying so, plus we do not have many editors with all the dvds. --Pedro J. the rookie 22:10, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
You could probably mention that in a production section or something. To be honest I don't really think you need a themes section. Family Guy isn't really the same as (old) The Simpsons or South Park. You should be okay without one. Gran2 22:13, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
Alright thanks a lot Gran one more question and take in notice that i will put it on CE and PR and a section for animation is still not there but do you think that it has a chance of getting to FA. --Pedro J. the rookie 22:17, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
I think it could, yeah. You might want to lose a few fair-use images though, because there's one guy at FAC who always goes after them (they one of Brian and Stewie dancing seems expendable). But after some CEs and a PR, it should be okay. Gran2 22:31, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Additions to Simon MacCorkindale

When I saw the previous edit had taken out his appearance in Queen of Swords but left in his appearances in Relic Hunter, I wondered why. I deal with many old TV programmes and often the only source is the primary source ie; the programme itself. IMDB and TV.COM are like wikipedia user generated by people like myself. primary sources are allowed when there is nothing else. It is how a synopsis of a TV, Film or Book appears on wikipedia within hours of it entering the public domain. I recently added to James Bond about MacCorkindale being a possible actor but I only got it from a rumour featured in his obituary which I cited. where did the obituary get it from. Anybody can verify if he was in a particular programme by looking at that programme. I do admit it is a problem area when for old tv programmes youtube could be the only source accessible to everyone for verification. Please reply here so any discussion is in one place.REVUpminster (talk) 00:26, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

There isn't really anything wrong with primary sources, especially for in universe material. The problem with using a primary source in a case like this (where no secondary, published source is available for the real-world matter of TV show finance and the role and episode of an actor) is that it strongly suggests the point in question is not-notable. If the end credits are the only source for something, why does it deserve to be mentioned? As you say, verifiabilty is difficult for such a thing. How would you cite the end credits of three separate shows? You couldn't just cite the credits in general, you would have to cite a specific episode, so how would you go about that? Personally, I would rather use IMDb, or simply not include such a point at all. Gran2 01:17, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
  • Thank You. My point was if Relic Hunter, which I believe Amy was involved only in series 3, appearances can be mentioned so can QoS. Amy international is credited with all the other production companies on the box cover of the official French DVD of the QoS. A recent edit of Garrow's Law when an editor substituted the writers name and I changed it to agree with the BBC official site and lo and behold when broadcast the first editor was right so I changed it back. It is still wrong on the BBC site. Most wikipedians do things with the best intentions but we can all be led astray. As to what is notable is in the eye of the beholder. Dare I say I have never watched the Simpsons but I know a lot about it because of the hype and can look at Wikipedia when I want some info. Notability to me is how many other pages on wikipedia a subject can link to but I might be wrong on that.REVUpminster (talk) 09:49, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Right, well, I still don't really understand. Where is the proof the explicit proof that AMY financed all three shows? Wikipedia, as I said, defines notability as something which covererd by reliable, secondary sources. And this point is not, so I'm in favour of removing it. His role in Relic Hunter is only in there because I sourced it to IMDb: I have no problem with sourcing QOS likewise, or removing both. Gran2 12:26, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

and another to imdb http://www.imdb.com/company/co0103656/ CheersREVUpminster (talk) 14:21, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

    • I don't understand the reference links 17 & 18 to another wikipage that does not even contain the subject. At least the links I used led to the fan club which collected independent articles from various sources some of which are already used in other references ie 19REVUpminster (talk) 16:59, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
      • Um, that "link" is the link to the pages of the sources' publishers. One of the sources is a newspaper article, the other is a magazine article... 17:29, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
