The name used for him in the media is "Benjamin", not "Ben" as for the disambiguator, I couldn't think of a more appropriate one. AnonAnnu (talk) 22:11, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

Module feedback

Hey Jackmcbarn - I just want to let you know that I've reached the 6500 points (6583 to be exact) in my Module:Sandbox/Ahmetyal. No problems yet, but I'm not sure if I can continue. --Ahmetyal (talk) 18:38, 23 June 2015 (UTC)

@Ahmetyal: I made some more improvements to the module recently. The new limit is around 11000. Jackmcbarn (talk) 23:39, 23 June 2015 (UTC)

Drake Bell full protection

I'd like to request that the protection at Drake Bell be kicked down to semi-protection from its current full-protection. I know there was a fair amount of disruption at that article, but full-protection seems pretty extreme, and it's been full-protected for 10 days now. Thanks for your consideration. --IJBall (contribstalk) 23:38, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

@IJBall: I've done that for now, but I'll have to restore it if the disruption resumes. Jackmcbarn (talk) 03:41, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Jackmcbarn! But might there be other options? – Pending changes protection, for example? (I might even be willing to put the article on my Watchlist to look out for stuff, if that'll make a difference...) --IJBall (contribstalk) 03:56, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
If autoconfirmed users start causing trouble, the only thing other than full protection that could fix that is PC2, and we're unfortunately not allowed to use that. Jackmcbarn (talk) 04:01, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

Made 2015 World Tour

I created a page of Big Bang Made 2015 World Tour months, but it got deleted first time because the lack on information the tour have, also it was too early for it, so I put it on the List of Big Bang concert tours, for the past months the section of the tour has been growing, and it's become big to be in the list, it needs a separate page, so I asked on the talk page about it, and there is no object about it, so I created the page again, and it's deleted again! I don't know what processes should I follow to have a chance to make the page again, could you please help. Thank you CesarLeto (talk) 18:55, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

How to call another Lua module?

Hi, Jackmcbarn! I'm learing Lua and thanks for your help in Module:VG timeline. I have a question, how to call another module in a module.

For example in Module:Sandbox/CAS222222221, I want to call Module:InfoboxImage. Use frame:expandTemplate for calling {{Infobox image}} is okay, but how to use that module directly?

Thank you.--CAS222222221 (talk) 09:40, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

@CAS222222221: Use require('Module:InfoboxImage'). Look at Module:Infobox military conflict line 174 for an example. Jackmcbarn (talk) 13:40, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

Invitation to subscribe to the edit filter mailing list

Hi, as a user in the edit filter manager user group we wanted to let you know about the new wikipedia-en-editfilters mailing list. As part of our recent efforts to improve the use of edit filters on the English Wikipedia it has been established as a venue for internal discussion by edit filter managers regarding private filters (those only viewable by administrators and edit filter managers) and also as a means by which non-admins can ask questions about hidden filters that wouldn't be appropriate to discuss on-wiki. As an edit filter manager we encourage you to subscribe; the more users we have in the mailing list the more useful it will be to the community. If you subscribe we will send a short email to you through Wikipedia to confirm your subscription, but let us know if you'd prefer another method of verification. I'd also like to take the opportunity to invite you to contribute to the proposed guideline for edit filter use at WP:Edit filter/Draft and the associated talk page. Thank you! Script error: The module returned a value. It is supposed to return an export table.

Hi, re this edit: see Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 139#Script error - it was happening, and WP:PURGE did fix it, once we'd worked out what it was about. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:56, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

Something odd is happening with this RFD nomination...

Hey Jackmcbarn, I figured you may know what is going on here. While I was correcting a double redirect encapsulated in a substituted RFD template, the state of the page went from this to this. In the second entry, somehow, the entirety of The Bold and the Beautiful secondary characters was transcluded. I don't know how it happened, but I have some suspicions of what may have caused it. In the first example, the target of the redirect is a redirect itself, making it (before I edited it) a double redirect; the issue happened after I resolved the double redirect. Anyways, here's the reason I think you may know what is going on: in the first edit I posted, the editor transcluded the template {{R from incorrect capitalisation}} on the nominated redirect to categorize it that is currently a template redirect nominated for RFD. (I have a suspicion this is somehow causing part of the problem.) Steel1943 (talk) 07:25, 11 September 2015 (UTC)

@Steel1943: It's a bug in Scribunto itself. I'll try to get a patch in Gerrit for it. I added a workaround to the module for now. Jackmcbarn (talk) 04:17, 12 September 2015 (UTC)

Lua

Does anybody know how to use various symbols and scripts as self.args. i.e. args. in Lua? For example, if I want to use self.args.ћирилица (cyrillic script) I get redirected to Debug console and don't know what to do... I guess there're some extra signs before and after the text self.argsн отхер сцрипт ор витх вариоус сумболс. --Obsuser (talk) 00:57, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

@Obsuser: Use self.args['ћирилица']. You can only use the dot syntax with names that only consist of a-z, A-Z, 0-9, and _, and that don't start with a number. If you try to use it with any other string, it's a syntax error. — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 02:16, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
@Mr. Stradivarius: Thank you! --Obsuser (talk) 02:28, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
@Mr. Stradivarius: Actually, it's not working. I get Script error: Lua mistake at line --: unexpected symbol near '['. I have also problem with self:renderPerЋИРИЛИЦА(builder, 'Ћирилица', 'ћирилица'). Any way to solve these? --Obsuser (talk) 02:40, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
@Obsuser: self:renderPerЋИРИЛИЦА(builder, 'Ћирилица', 'ћирилица') is another syntax error. You need to write self['renderPerЋИРИЛИЦА'](self, builder, 'Ћирилица', 'ћирилица') (see here for an explanation of how the colon operator works). As for the other error, I think I will need to see your script. Can I have a link? — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 03:04, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
@Mr. Stradivarius: Here. You can compare English version and the one from link to see what I've changed (you can check differences here). I need cyrillic script for all of those words (Strana, strane, datum, lokacija, akcija etc.) so they can be used as parameters in the template. You can change module on .sr project to see if it is working (if you want) because with self.args['ћирилица'] style I get error. Thank you! --Obsuser (talk) 03:53, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
@Obsuser: Hmm, it looks like the best way of doing that would be to use the argument translation feature in Module:Arguments. @Jackmcbarn: I see that argument translation isn't documented at Module:Arguments/doc - is there a particular reason for this, or is it ok to encourage people to use it? — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 04:30, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
@Mr. Stradivarius: So what should I do now to make my module working with cyrillic script? --Obsuser (talk) 23:10, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
@Mr. Stradivarius: It works differently than the getArgs in Gerrit will, so I don't want to encourage use of the old way. Jackmcbarn (talk) 00:17, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
How can I use cyrillic now? There must be some detour...Obsuser (talk) 20:23, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
@Obsuser: You can look at how de:Modul:Vorlage:Wertungsspiegel Computerspiel (a translation of Module:Video game reviews) does it, and just go along with it. (Just be prepared to have to do some rewriting when getArgs comes out.) Jackmcbarn (talk) 17:06, 12 September 2015 (UTC)

Thank you, but can you give me an example of one changed name of any argument from my template my template? You can compare English version and the one from link to see what I've changed (you can check differences here). I need cyrillic script for all of those words (Strana, strane, datum, lokacija, akcija etc.) so they can be used as parameters in the template. You can change module on .sr project to see if it is working (if you want) because with self.args['ћирилица'] style I get error. Thank you! --Obsuser (talk) 17:02, 13 September 2015 (UTC)

@Obsuser: Okay, that's one of the more difficult types of modules to translate. You'll need to create a table called translate that contains all English arguments with keys and translated arguments as values, and a table called backtranslate that contains all translated arguments as keys and English arguments as values. You'll need to give both of them metatables so that anything that starts with "combatant" in English is mapped to the same thing but starting with "strana" translated, and vice versa for backtranslate. Jackmcbarn (talk) 17:32, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
@Jackmcbarn: I’m not that familiar with Lua. Could you please give me an example or create needed template(s) in Sandbox for specifically my case? On Wiki .sr we will probably need a lot of new Lua-based cyrillic templates with parameters NOT using latin script so it would be very useful to resolve this template as soon as possible. --Obsuser (talk) 19:59, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
@Obsuser: I don't really have time to do that right now. There's no reason that the self.args['ћирилица'] style shouldn't work; you should figure out why it's not and get that fixed for now instead. Jackmcbarn (talk) 03:09, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
Done Thank you. I managed to solve the problem by proper usage of self.args['ћирилица'] and self['renderPerЋИРИЛИЦА'](self, builder, 'Ћирилица', 'ћирилица'). --Obsuser (talk) 21:59, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
