Draft[edit]

A draft it shows you submitted was held as a "Promising draft". I added some content and references, and since notability was not an issue, approved creation as Dingle International Film Festival. Thanks for your submission, -- Otr500 (talk) 07:25, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ITN recognition for Death of George Floyd[edit]

city map[edit]

Hi! Thanks for the edits. If you've got anymore just add them to the end - I am renumbering everything by hand!! cheers, -- phoebe / (talk to me) 22:50, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Phoebe:Ha, thanks. I spent a lot of time last night getting the coordinates by hand. Glad I don't have to do that today. That's what wikipedia's all about. Have a good day. Kire1975 (talk) 22:57, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Kire1975: I think we about have this map thing under control! I'll put in the article when this batch of renumbering is done. Collaboration!!!! -- phoebe / (talk to me) 23:03, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Phoebe: I'm going to be adding more as I find them, one or two at a time usually. Just found Augusta, Georgia. So if you want to hold off until the end of your day instead of renumbering over and over all day, that's up to you. Thanks again for the good communication. Kire1975 (talk) 23:14, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
at this point I'd say let's just go ahead and add them to the end -- it's live in the article right now and I don't think it hurts it for them to be out of alphabetical order or anything (just increment the numbers at the end as you go). Once there's a bunch of new cities, we could make one more pass and alphabetize / renumber? Also, I added an idea on the talk page to make the largest protests large size markers - what do you think? -- phoebe / (talk to me) 23:17, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

December 2020[edit]

Please read WP:WTRMT, especially point #6. You are putting in dubious tags without initiating any discussion on the article's talk page to support the placement of the tag. WTRMT clearly says "If the tagging editor failed to do so and there is no other support for the template, it can be removed." --Guy Macon (talk) 05:45, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Attn Guy Macon. The reasons for the tags are obvious and the discussion was already started on the talk page about the non-neutral party making edits on the page yesterday here. If you had a question or a suggestion for improvement, you could have asked politely instead of making wild accusations. See WP:NORESVAND. Kire1975 (talk) 06:08, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Guy Macon: Adding italics for empasisis here: "If the tagging editor failed to do so and there is no other support for the template, it can be removed." Did you look to see if there was any other support on the page for the reasons for the tags before publicly accusing me of being a bad faith editor? Kire1975 (talk) 06:23, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Yes I did. Not a single existing section of Talk:Integrity (band) talked about promotional editing, over detailed, or any of your other tags. The only recent discussion is about COI and you failed to use any of the tags listed at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#Templates. --Guy Macon (talk) 07:22, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sections don't talk. Quit WP:GASLIGHTING. Write me up on a noticeboard. I can defend myself. Just leave this page alone. Kire1975 (talk) 07:30, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I no longer read any comments that you post. Please refrain from formatting your comments so that I cannot see your signature and skip to the next comment without reading them, as you did on my talk page.

Note that I am not watching this page and will not see anything you write in response. I will know whether you are complying by a lack of comments by you on my talk page.

Again, I do not want to have any further interactions with you. --Guy Macon (talk) 04:24, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also, please do not thank me for any edits I make. Again I say, I do not want to have any further interactions with you. --Guy Macon (talk) 04:30, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The irony of posting under the message that I posted yesterday asking you to leave my talk page alone with a message demanding that I leave your talk page alone is rich. Happy WP:GAMING. Kire1975 (talk) 04:40, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not change ref names in citations[edit]

Hi Kire1975, I noticed that on Hilaria Baldwin you have changed the ref name of a citation to a single digit number. Please don't do that anymore. I am changing it back, because numbers are insufficiently memorable and too easily confused with one another. You may need to switch to editing source code rather than using the visual editor in order to prevent this in the future. Thank you. Softlavender (talk) 01:23, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you Softlavender, for pointing that out, could you link to the edit you are referring to please? I made multiple edits to citations on that page in the last few minutes using visual editor to expand them to proper citations instead of just URLs. It seems like it might be something that happened automatically with visual editor. Perhaps you could take it up with the creators of that function. Kire1975 (talk) 01:29, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Here: [1]; my correction is here: [2]. Also, please use {{cite news}} instead of {{cite web}} unless the item is very obviously not a news article; and please do not put anything except human names in the "first" and "last" fields; my corrections of those edits are here [3]. If you edit and view via source code rather than visual editor, you will be less likely to make these mistakes (you will also be taken more seriously as a Wikipedia editor). Softlavender (talk) 01:38, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Softlavender Your problem with me raised an interesting question so I found WP:VEF and suggested a new project to make the add citation tool in visual editor allow for "cite web" and "cite news" and the other things you requested. Please bear in mind that the reason I rely on visual editor so much is that I am disabled with Focal dystonia in my dominant hand and Vitelliform macular dystrophy in one of my eyes so your personal attack about how I would be taken more seriously as a Wikipedia editor if I did it your way was not necessary. If you would like to act WP:BOLDLY and contribute to this project instead of making future personal attacks and walking away when someone else does the same thing I did, you can find the discussion here. Warmest regards. Kire1975 (talk) 04:59, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

        • Softlavender, I was directed to point you here and point out that "There is no reason to use "cite news" in favor of "cite web", except for very specific circumstances described." Thank you again for your suggestion. Hopefully, you will see that you don't need to make it again in the future. Regards.-- Kire1975 (talk) 16:16, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ANI Notice[edit]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Kire1975. Thank you. Guy Macon (talk) 02:04, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Guy Macon has been asked twice to leave my talk page alone, yet still he persists. Kire1975 (talk) 04:41, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless of any request to stay off your talk page, there are certain notices for which it is mandatory to post to your talk page. The above ANI notice is one such notice. 86.142.79.215 (talk) 14:00, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The ANI discussion is not mandatory, though. That's my point. Thanks, Kire1975 (talk) 15:01, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It is not compulsory for you to contribute to the ANI discussion. It is compulsory for anyone starting a discussion about you to post the ANI notice to your talk page - as the BIG RED box on the ANI page states. 86.142.79.215 (talk) 15:11, 6 January 2021 (UTC)😊[reply]
Thanks 86.142.79.215. It is not compulory to post an ANI discussion. Your pedanticism is noted. I would like you to stop posting here now. Thanks. 15:15, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Topic ban notice[edit]

As requested at my talk page, here is a copy of the topic ban and its reasoning from ANI on 8 January 2021: "Kire1975 is indefinitely topic banned from Dwid Hellion and the band Integrity, including all articles, talk pages, and discussion boards. Kire1975 is also subject to a one-way interaction ban, to not interact with Guy Macon. Kire1975 is formally warned to respect WP:BLP policy at all times, including on talk pages and discussion boards, and to not cast aspersions about other editors. Reasoning: it can be difficult to handle COI editing by article subjects, but Kire1975's editing and comments amount to a campaign against the subject, with no sign of de-escalation once it was brought here. This WP:BATTLEGROUND approach extends to how Kire1975 discusses the reporting user, Guy Macon, inappropriately linking to irrelevant commentary on an essay and by disgruntled blocked users in an attempt to discredit him. Kire1975 is not a new editor. The dismissal of previous BLP warnings is concerning and further such breaches of BLP policy will lead to additional sanctions." Listing film festivals.[edit]

Hi. Please do not list every single film festival a film has been shown at, such as at Drive My Car and The Worst Person in the World. Per Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Film#Release only noteworthy screenings should be mentioned. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:17, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Lugnuts: That's a relief actually. Thank you. Kire1975 (talk) 10:20, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Lugnuts: Hi. I see here and here that you've removed the lists completely. If a film festival has its own Wikipedia page, it is by definition notable. I understood your quibble to be with the length of the lists, and I agree. However, would it not add value to include a limited number of screenings at notable film festivals? The first instance I can remember discussing this matter was two years ago on the page for The Irishman and there was considerable consensus about the issue and none of it was in favor of omitting all film festivals besides the exceptionally newsworthy ones. If the list is longer than four or five festivals, there is a hierarchy of festivals that can be prioritized, no? Again, I am grateful that I don't have to continue the pattern I've been following, but omitting everything just seems like the nuclear option. Peace. Kire1975 (talk) 11:15, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. It's not about the notability of the festival itself, but if the screenings are noteworthy. As far as I can tell, apart from the first screening in Toronoto, the rest of the screenings aren't noteworthy. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:17, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again @Lugnuts:. Per WP:NOTEWORTHY, "Notability guidelines do not apply to content within articles or lists." Is there an WP:UNDUE issue you see? Does it conflict with one of the other WP:CONPOL policies mentioned in WP:NCC? Do you plan on hunting down every film page that has a list of film festivals and deleting everything? That sounds like a lot of work, and for what purpose? Thanks again. Kire1975 (talk) 11:30, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going per the MOS for film articles. I'll remove them as and when I find them. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:32, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A minor suggestion[edit]

Hi! In your recent comment at AN you might want to include a link to Reesorville's barnstar that you're referring to, which is on their user-page. Otherwise someone might look on their talk-page, where there's only one barnstar, and it's for their collaboration with me on the "Biblical passage" section of Christianity and abortion, where, to my surprise actually, we were able to agree on NPOV-compliant text. So it's only the barnstar on the user-page that illustrates your point. Thanks. NightHeron (talk) 13:52, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Archive location[edit]

It seems that your User talk page discussions are being archived to User talk:Kire1975 1, while your clickable archive links are for User talk:Kire1975/Archive 1. That's confusing. Is that intentional? If not, I can offer to help fix the problem. — BarrelProof (talk) 01:38, 16 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's not intentional. The template says "Sections older than 14 days may be automatically archived by ClueBot III." To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time this has happened. I would like to know how to fix the problem. Thanks, User:BarrelProof. Kire1975 (talk) 02:29, 16 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In addition to the incorrect prefix, you seem to have misunderstood the |age= parameter. Notice how rapidly it archived our previous discussion – I think it interprets the age parameter in hours, not days. I tried changing the pathname prefix. I also temporarily changed the age parameter to 1, which I think means 1 hour. Let's wait to see if that causes this conversation to be archived to the right place, then merge the archive contents and change the age parameter to 336 (14 times 24). — BarrelProof (talk) 17:07, 16 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Instead you chose to repeat the same nonsensical edit summary you've been edit warring about for several days now on my personal talk page. You have no valid reason for doing so. Accusation of "deliberate misinformation", etc.[edit]

I'm responding to your comment here on my Talk page, as well as your unfounded accusation of "deliberate misinformation". First, you'll have to show me the edit with which I failed to include a proper summary; I believe you're mistaken. More importantly, all editors deserve a minimum level of respect, and there was no cause for you to violate WP:AGF and WP:NPA. I deliberately choose to shrug off such ugliness and to respond substantively, in the hopes of building a better encyclopedia. There's no need to correspond on individual Talk pages—however, I'm doing you the courtesy of responding to your request. I hope you'll consider an apology for your intemperate accusation. Even more, I hope you'll engage in intellectually honest discussion of the material, as well as the merits of my edits, in the appropriate forum: the article Talk page. West Chester University[edit]

I developed a sandbox version of the page here: User:Keystone18/sandbox. It addresses two of your points: 1.) I moved the accreditation info out of the intro and into academics; and 2.) I added a sentence on the satellite campuses. Are there any beyond the two I mention that belong in there? Also made two less significant improvements: 1.) Easily found a requested reference for the NPS designation of the Frederick Douglass statue and added it; and 2.) Fixed the Rodney Linderman caption link. Let me know your thoughts. My name is Puck and I am the North American Continental Public Relations Officer for Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.). I made an edit to the page changing "motorcycle club" to "motorcycle organization" as it is more accurate. I didn't realize the limitations on links as this was my first time editing anything via Wikipedia. I thank you for setting me straight; I will make the edit without any links, which should be IAW the guidelines. Thank you! PuckKCMO (talk) 21:07, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:28, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I don't understand? Please explain your reversions. Thanks. 98.155.8.5 (talk) 09:10, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

User:98.155.8.5: Explain the edit on the talk page. Which rollback? How were your edits affected? Use evidence. Outright calling someone a troll and saying something is "simple" in wikivoice is very controversial. Kire1975 (talk) 09:12, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Huh? Please read the cited source from Vice: The Far Right Is Already Attacking the Club Q Hero
Here is a key quote: "... for far-right trolls on platforms like Truth Social, Gettr, Parler, Gab, and Telegram, Fierro’s actions should not be met with praise, but with vitriol and anger." (The article provides more specific detail if you read on, and please do!)
The reliable source uses the word "troll" in reference to multiple on-line attacks against Fierro, so yes, we can also use that language in wikivoice (and if you pay close attention to the language I used in the Wikipedia article, nobody in particular is being called a troll, it is more a description of the behavior of "provocating/trolling" by various people leaving public comments on the Internet). I wrote "troll" to avoid writing "far-right provocateur" two times in a row. Does that make sense? It is simply an improvement of the language to avoid redundancy. 98.155.8.5 (talk) 09:52, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And this is the unrelated rollback which affected some previous intermediate edits, like mine. It actually would help to look at the revision history, and you can see the edits that got reverted in the blanket rollback, going back to the version of the page by Peleio Aquiles (revision 1130117791). Cheers! 98.155.8.5 (talk) 09:30, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
User: 98.155.8.5 - Per WP:VICE, There is no consensus on the reliability of Vice Media publications. @Peleio Aquiles:'s edit summary makes it clear that his edit was intentional and that your edit is WP:UNDUE. You have now flooded my inbox with eight unwelcome talk messages on my page when you were advised from the beginning to seek consensus on Talk:Colorado Springs nightclub shooting. Kindly do that, or let it go. Any further messages by you on my talk page will be considered harassment. Kire1975 (talk) 12:12, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Re: NJ climate[edit]

Could you perhaps better explain what you think the original research is? The map is at the source and shows the southern borders of NJ as Cfa, even if you can't make it out for whatever reason; I was just pointing you to the same exact map at a local source so you could better verify it. Alternatively, you can download it from the links in the source, which may alleviate whatever issue keeps you from zooming in enough: https://www.gloh2o.org/koppen/ or https://figshare.com/articles/dataset/Present_and_future_K_ppen-Geiger_climate_classification_maps_at_1-km_resolution/6396959/2. --Xanzzibar (talk) 03:52, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for asking @Xanzzibar:. There are two maps in the document. I've taken the liberty to screenshot the relevant portions below:
  • Part (a) shows the present-day map (1980–2016).
  • panel (b) the future map (2071–2100)
Part (a) might cover just the southernmost portion of Cape May etc. but there are no borders and nothing in the document even mentions the state in writing. To deduce that that's what is in the eye of the beholder, aka WP:OR.
Assuming the 2071 in panel (b) is a typo and they meant to say 2017-2100, panel (a) is clearly marked as no later as 2017. That was six years ago. We can't say that is "present-day." That is not acceptable per WP:RELTIME. The only other map in the document appears to show Cfa as high a Cape Cod, Massachusetts and indubitably covers the entire state of New Jersey. Still no borders. Still no written mention of Cfa in New Jersey at all. Deducing it so is WP:OR.
If part (a) is the authoritative map, then it was no longer authoritative as of seven years ago. If panel (b) is to be considered reliable, then it covers the entire state of New Jersey and not just the southernmost portions. But, the only way to verify it is to eyeball it. That requires WP:ANALYSIS and WP:SYNTHESIS which is forbidden by WP:OR, so in my opinion a better source is needed.
I guess we should copy this into discussion at Talk:New Jersey, huh? Kire1975 (talk) 09:12, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's simple enough to tack an "As of 2016," preface onto the statement if you're concerned about relative time with the classification. I disagree that basic map-reading is OR (WP:MAPCITE), especially when it's so unambiguous (https://i.imgur.com/HCukACc.png), but I'm not really interested in debating it further. Do as you wish. --Xanzzibar (talk) 11:02, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Changes in Sean Baker page[edit]

Hello @Kire1975. I've seen that you have reversed a change I did in the page Sean Baker. I wanted to explain to you the reason. I found clearer using "US-American" than "American", because American can be also a person living in any place of the continent, while US-American is more concrete and makes clearer that the person is a citizen of the US. Sjoel (talk) 09:43, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Sjoel: - please read my edit summary. It says See MOS:NATIONALITY. Wikipedia standard nationality for citizens of the United States is simply American. If you wish to make that change to every American bio on Wikipedia, place a request on the relevant talk page so a WP:CONSENSUS can be sought. Kire1975 (talk) 10:16, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your answer. :) Sjoel (talk) 11:41, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

George Floyd Protests Talk Page[edit]

Look - I am a 45 year old man, I have two advanced degrees and have worked as a journalist trained in AP style - so Im not a troll or a 'right winger' - I simply noticed that the George Floyd Protest (like many other Wiki entries) is heavily biased with sources from the left. It's bad enough that Wikipedia finds Mother Jones and Vox to be reliable, yet not actual newspapers like the New York Post. It's bad enough that the George Floyd page needs to be locked at all. Yet - are you telling me that I can't even discuss apparent biases or omissions on the talk page? Based environmentalist (talk) 16:26, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kire, this edit counts as a revert and as such you've stepped over the 1RR restrictions in place for Andy Ngo. I invite you to self-revert. AlanStalk 01:55, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I was unaware of the 1RR rule on that page. The controversial material relating to a living person removed per WP:DAILYBEAST has been put back. Kire1975 (talk) 09:39, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Place of residence for Ken Kelsch[edit]

The source you cite in this edit from The Hollywood Reporter (see here) to establish Ken Kelsch as a notable from Hackettstown, New Jersey, says that "Kelsch died Monday at Hackettstown Medical Center in New Jersey", but doesn't say that he lived there. Am I missing something in the source? Alansohn (talk) 17:51, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Alansohn: His home address is listed in several yellowpage type sites. I won't link to those here for obvious reasons, but it's also in WP:SELFSOURCE's like his goodreads profile, his mandy.com audition page, as well as his mother's obituary. Feel free to add what you see fit. Good enough? Kire1975 (talk) 19:16, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yellowpage sites are not reliable, I don't see a mention in goodreads and I'm not sure that the other sources meet the standard. But can I ask that you pick the best you can find among those sources that explicitly connects him to Hackettstown and replace the THR source which manes no mention of the town? I'll try to look elsewhere, but I haven't had much luck, myself. Alansohn (talk) 19:25, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Alansohn use Ctrl+F to find Hackettstown on the goodreads profile. The standard is on WP:SELFSOURCE. There is no reasonable doubt as to him being a resident of Hackettstown since before 2009. I would say the best one would be the Mandy.com profile, but leaving it there without it being at least accompanied by the THR article would raise even more red flags. Can we move this discussion to Talk:Hackettstown, New Jersey and seek a consensus please? Kire1975 (talk) 19:38, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Post at WP:AE[edit]

Please stop WP:FORUMSHOPPING. Your comment at Nableezy's thread is entirely inappropriate and irrelevant to the discussion. Isabelle Belato 🏳‍🌈 00:45, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't have the whole picture, that's for sure, but I wouldn't say it's entirely inappropriate or even irrelevant. I only raised the issue on one board. Come to find out later, it was already raised by a third party on ANI and Homer himself had raised the issue by continuing the problematic behavior on the third board. My further comments were replies. Three administrators had already advised patience on the ANI board many hours before your comment here sent me an alert in the middle of the night. I do appreciate that people are paying attention. This is a collaborative project. Thanks. Kire1975 (talk) 15:08, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally, edit summaries like this and accusations of NPOV across multiple articles are not acceptable. Tone it down, or make a report at WP:AE with diffs and a concise explanation of the issues. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 13:38, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The NPOV notice was created before I was aware of the ANI board. It's been two days since any activity has occurred, but I'm still getting warnings to "tone it down." If I do as you now suggest and move it to WP:AE, that will be a fourth forum you'll accuse me of canvass at. Okay, pals. You're the admins. You win every time. Just please stop posting on my talk page about this. You're bothering me. Kire1975 (talk) 20:18, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ANI[edit]

Can I ask you to please reword this comment? I'm sure there is a way to make the point you're trying to make without being quite so dismissive or insulting. – bradv 00:29, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Bradv You do see the point I'm trying to make. That's good. I've been doubting my senses. Kire1975 (talk) 01:21, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'm asking you to reword it as it comes across as a personal attack. If you have a point that needs to be made, it is to your benefit to make it clearly and politely, without resorting to personal attacks or by casting aspersions. You complain above that too many people are asking you to "tone it down" – this is another such instance. – bradv 01:30, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bradv The point was made a while ago, but the problem remained. Now there are two more replies baiting me. I would love to delete it all and not be involved with any part of it, but I don't know how to do that without re-writing history. You're asking me to take another action, but I genuinely don't know how to do what you're asking me without getting in more trouble. Kire1975 (talk) 01:53, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've replaced your comment with (Personal attack removed), as it received yet another complaint. If this sort of thing happens again you can expect a block. – bradv 21:34, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I wish I knew a way to do that before it came to this. Kire1975 (talk) 23:29, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
