How you can help

Hi there, do join WikiProject India!

A new day dawns and a bright future shines for Wikipedians in Ahmedabad.

Hi,

Thanks for participating in Wikipedia Takes Ahmedabad. It was a great success and we are very happy for you. Your city event hasgarnered over 700 images and has beenblogged about internationally!. How awesome is that? Great work, friend.

Introducing myself, I'm a volunteer looking after WikiProject India - a group of editors who have got together to collaborate in improving articles on India in English Wikipedia. We have over 90,000 articles and are probably the biggest Indian Language Wikipedia after Hindi Wikipedia. Yes, we consider ourselves an Indian language & gave a status report presentation in WikiConference 2011. :)

People look first to English Wikipedia for detailed, well-illustrated, properly referenced and well-written articles before they look at the article versions in the Indic language wikipedia. This means that we can use all the help we can get. That means you! :)

By joining the WikiProject, if you are a newbie you get to learn things faster. If you are an established editor, you get to collaborate with others. Hardcore ninja Wiki-warriors get a chance to meet young enthusiastic members and to push forward their pet projects collaboratively. We have an exciting project going already - Offline Wikipedia for Indian Schools. We also have a Collaboration Of The Month where we select two articles and develop them. On our talk page, you can get help, participate in meaningful discussions, pick up tips & tricks and learn about new issues. In all cases, you can have fun here! :)

Alliance Francaise (Ahmedabad) ‎

Hello,

Thanks for your article about Alliance Francaise (Ahmedabad). There are a couple of issues to resolve or the page may be deleted:

  1. The page was a WP:Copy paste of information from the referenced website, which is a violation of copyright law. This can be remedied by paraphrasing the content.  Done, great job
  2. The source is a WP:Primary source, which can be remedied by finding a secondary source, such as an unaffiliated website, newspaper or journal article, book or other reliable published source other than the subject of the article.  Done
  3. The other issues are less important:
    1. It doesn't have any other articles that link to it. This can be resolved by finding articles that already mention the organization by doing a wikipedia search - one find is the Alliance Francaise site that mentions the Ahmedabad site. Another option is to find related articles and add the link to the page. Done
    2. It could be wikified more, see hints to wikify. Done
    3. Notability can be addressed by finding good, reliable sources that have published material about the organization. Done
    4. It needs to be added to a category.  Done

I know this is a lot to address for an article and I'm happy to help if you're interested in solving the issues.--CaroleHenson (talk) 14:38, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Here are some search results that seem to yield reliable sources:search.--CaroleHenson (talk) 14:46, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
Hi, I saw your message on my talk page. Good to meet you. I'll chip in on the list, too.--CaroleHenson (talk) 15:24, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
Hi again, I saw your note and I'll take a look.--CaroleHenson (talk) 16:07, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
It's looking good! I think the only thing is that there's only one article Alliance francaise that links to this article (i.e., it's still an orphan until there are 3 articles or more that link to the article). I was trying to see if it could be added to the Ahmedabadarticle, such as the education section, or add a "see also" section. I was also going to see if there was an article or list of education links for Ahmedabad.--CaroleHenson(talk) 17:00, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
So this is done, too.--CaroleHenson (talk) 17:11, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

You are welcome

Hi Kondicherry, Glad you found the list useful! Do keep in touch. Happy editing! AshLin (talk) 18:28, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification

Hi. When you recently edited Diwan-Ballubhai School, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Nursery(check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Nomination of Ekso Bionics for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Ekso Bionics is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ekso Bionics until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. -- Alan Liefting (talk)- 21:33, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

  • Hi Kondicherry. You will no doubt be pleased to know that Ekso Bionics is in fact a highly notable company. On a casual examination, it seems only moderately notable. But that is because they keep changing the company name, and the last change was very recent. There are in fact,a million hits if you search including the earlier company names, andthird of a million hits referring to one of their main products. Anyway, I have started expanding the article, and it would be good if you would like to join in. In a couple of days, I will nominate the article for a joint DYK and the article will eventually be mentioned on the front page of Wikipedia. Regards --Epipelagic (talk) 07:19, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
No, not 1500 words. 1500 characters. The article is way beyond that.--Epipelagic (talk) 08:29, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
I won't take you up on "Berkeley Robotics and Human Engineering Laboratory", because I have other areas I am more focused on. But you should be off to a running start now, and you can ask me for help if you get stuck. Happy editing! --Epipelagic (talk) 08:29, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Jolly good. You might like to see if can upload one or two images for the article, particularly a photo of eLEGS. You can upload themto commons], which will walk you through the necessary steps. I've already checked federal sources, such as the US Ministry of Defence, but nothing in the public domain seems available. You could email Eythor Bender, CEO of Ekso Bionics, give him a link to Ekso Bionics, and ask him to release one or more images to Wikipedia that could be used to enhance the article. The images don't need to be high resolution, 600 x 800 would be fine. --Epipelagic (talk) 05:03, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I chanced upon your note on AshLin's talk page. Some active Wikipedians from Gujarat I know are User:Dsvyas, User:Rangilo Gujarati and User:Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington. Good day. Lynch7 10:14, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Add User:Srikeit & User:Noopur28 to the list! Ask them all to sign up[[1]] if they have not already done so!
I have another proposition for you. Please take up the responsibility of being the volunteer "coordinator" for[Gujarat]. It will help your efforts. If you agree, I will request the community to endorse my proposal. This post is nothing more than the community's confidence in you to lead the way. No other power or status comes your way. However, it gives you the moral right to go ahead secure that you have community support in general. Believe me, its more than enough!  :) AshLin (talk) 10:50, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Ah, so you are Konarak. I've been seeing you around the mailing lists and wondering who you were onwiki. Nice to meet you. Lynch7 10:54, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Yeah Konarak Ratnakar=User:Kondicherry, I know, srikeit, noopur28, Sir Nick, Rangilo Gujarati, Dsvyas and some others also. And User:AshLin I've already volunteered, in the second meetup Sir Nick told me that WikiProject Gujarat is dead, so I took up the thing, now this is the main agenda of the 3rd meetup which I've set up on 19th,(this sunday)!--19:01, 17 February 2012 (UTC)--kondi talk/contribs 19:01, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
So I take it you agree to be the coordinator? Please confirm so that I can ping your home community about it. AshLin (talk) 19:15, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
yeah, but I'm not a chapter member, I'm not 18 till this june. I'll do this for sure..--19:18, 17 February 2012 (UTC)--kondi talk/contribs 19:18, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
oops MikeLynch nice to meet you too.. :D --19:28, 17 February 2012 (UTC)--kondi talk/contribs 19:28, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

This is not a chapter issue. It is a WikiProject India/WikiProject Gujarat issue. As far as I can see WikiProject Gujarat is essentially a Task Force/daughter project of WikiProject India and has very long way to go before it can be self-sufficient. So I think there will be no issues. Similarly User:BPositive is a volunteer and not here because he holds a Chapter designation. I'll post the community tomorrow/this weekend as I am shutting down now! GN! AshLin(talk) 19:38, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

I didn't mean about designation, I meant I'm not a member. Whatever, let's not get in a discussion. I'd be thankful to you if you post it.--19:49, 17 February 2012 (UTC)--kondi talk/contribs 19:49, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

February 2012

Hi Kondicherry. Thank you for your work on patrolling new pages and tagging for speedy deletion. I'm just letting you know that I declined your deletion request for Rihaan Patel, a page that you tagged for speedy deletion, because the criterion you used or the reason you gave does not cover this kind of page (specifically A7 does not apply because the article asserts the significance/importance of the subject). Please take a moment to look at the suggested tasks for patrollers and review the criteria for speedy deletion. Particularly, the section covering non-criteria. Such pages are best tagged with proposed deletion, proposed deletion for biographies of living persons, or sent to the appropriate deletion discussion. Ks0stm (TCGE)17:59, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Hey I nominated it for the reasons, and about the notability I assume you are aware of Wikipedia:Notability_(people)#Creative_professionals. Thank you.----kondi talk/contribs 18:10, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
The notability standard for speedy deletion is lower than that needed for WP:PROD orWP:AFD, so an article can assert enough notability to not be eligible for speedy deletion but yet not have enough notability to survive AfD. You can try nominating it at AfD, but it's not speedy material. Ks0stm (TCGE)18:17, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
Yeah I learned that now, I should have nominated for deletion instead of Speedy deletion. I'll keep in mind. Thank You. ----kondi talk/contribs 18:21, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Contributing to OWIS

Hi, Kondicherry, In WP:OWISFULL, the only OWIS project on at present, we have a number of subjects up for work required. We need people to follow the methodology for each subject:

  • Examine the school syllabus closely.
  • Identify topics relevant to the syllabus & ensure they are present.
  • Remove completely redundant topics eg topics on advanced British history.
  • Finalise the list.
  • Do a cleanup check to identify articles needing cleanup & clean them up.
  • Hand over to tech guys to make a package out of it.

AshLin (talk) 17:42, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the info, I can help in Geography and History. I'll check if any school in Ahmedabad is interested in it or not, and let you know, If not I still can help right? --kondi talk/contribs 18:21, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
At this time, you do not need the schools. We are using CBSE IX to XII syllabus as an interim measure. The links for syllabus are on the Project Pages. Download the files, isolate the subject syllabi for four years & start checking whter the articles are listed. Preferably do only one subject at a time otherwise, we will get nowhere. Hope this helps. AshLin (talk) 18:24, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
Cool I'll check Geography then. Thanks again for help.--kondi talk/contribs 18:30, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Gujarat review

Oi, I've been assessing all unassessed Gujarat articles. Will finish all 51 by tonight. Will review the Gujarat article then. If its beyond B class I can't help much because I am not an admin/peer review expert. Then, we'll have to ask AshLin or someone :) Also, I saw pols of Ahmedabad. The article has potential, needs expansion and gallery feature added. Noopur28(talk) 06:52, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

That article is on my watchlist, I'll make an article on GUWP then improve the English one, Thanks again.--kondi talk/contribs 06:57, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Edit Summary

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Please make sure to include an edit summary. Please provide one before saving your changes to an article or talk page, as the summaries are quite helpful to people browsing an article's history and also to know your intention about the edit you made. Thanks! Yasht101 07:33, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Some stroopwafels for you!

Thanks for your help on Ahmedabad finding all those references! Keep up the good work. effeietsanders 15:02, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

Thank you! I saw you've been editing Ahmedabad article, as I'm coordinating WikiProject Gujarat and this article is within the scope of this project, I'm trying to get it featured again. Want to work on it? Do ping me. Thanks again.--kondi talk/contribs 15:08, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

Hey, glad you're working on it! I'm indeed trying to remove some bias, POV and all, and what I can easily do without extensive knowledge of the topic. Mainly because I wanted to use the article as a source for the Dutch version. I'm no good Featured Article writer, so I doubt I'd be of much help there. effeietsanders 15:13, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
I also doubt about the featured thing, but still I'll try, if not FA, I can get it to GA at least.--kondi talk/contribs 16:12, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest

Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.

As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.

If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.

You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.

In that case, it's best to remove the admin help template, to avoid causing admins to waste time coming here to check the request. JamesBWatson (talk) 12:41, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

Regarding Dr Kalam's article

Hi,

I was browsing through Dr Kalam's wiki article and found the Criticism section not upto the wiki standards. Why are we quoting a criticism to scientist's work from news journals? A scientists work can only be criticized in scientific journals when there has been a fraud and non-ethical presentation of reports or statistics with enough proof. But how can we quote an entire paragraph from 3 news articles (1 among them the rediff is quoting CNN IBN back again whihc is among the first 2 references). When we place criticism in people of high stature there has to be enough credibility from scientific community both national and international. Also the entire para has the quotes by Homi Seth who alone cannot be a judge and his observations do not have a scientific basis to even be quoted in adding criticism to Mr Kalam's scientific career. Also you are just quoting 2 articles which also have been covered by journalists and not even the science editors of the respective news agencies. Request you to work towards taking a stand to revise the lengthy paragraphs of criticism and remove too many lines from a news article with 3 paragraphs. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sailpra (talkcontribs) 11:15, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

First of all I didn't add the information I just added the references for it, and the article has been chosen for COTM by Wikiproject India, a lot of work remains to be done on the article, and if you find anything wrong you're free to edit it. --kondi talk/contribs 11:29, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Oh sure, thank you. Will try to work with another wiki editor who edited this part. Sailpra (talk) 16:15, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
