Copyright violations[edit]

Hello Lwansamulenga, and thanks for your interest in editing Wikipedia. I refer to your edit here: [1]. Please read Wikipedia:Copyright violations. You cannot copy and paste text from a website and then place it onto Wikipedia, unless you frame it as a direct quote, and even then there are limits to how much you can quote. Also we only put the articles title in bold the first time it is mentioned. There's a lot of things to learn when getting started on Wikipedia, so don't feel discouraged. You may wish to check out Wikipedia:Teahouse if you have any questions about editing. Have a nice day. Damien Linnane (talk) 09:05, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Opening Prayers (for meetings) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://connectusfund.org/15-best-opening-prayers-for-meetings-church-worship-and-bible-study. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Lwansamulenga! Your additions to Opening Prayers (for meetings) have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 13:06, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon

Hello Lwansamulenga. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Lusaka Apex Medical University ‎, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Lwansamulenga. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Lwansamulenga|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. – NJD-DE (talk) 17:15, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Avoiding copyright issues[edit]

Hello Lwansamulenga, you have been advised before about copyright violations. This message should highlight this again: Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Most texts you find offline or online are copyrighted and it's not allowed to paste them anywhere on Wikipedia (articles, drafts, user page, etc.). In the rare case that content is released in the public domain or has a compatible license you must attribute this! Please see WP:FREECOPYING to learn more about this, and then take the appropriate steps for your drafts and your user page. The latter appears to contain content from https://oer.unn.edu.ng/read/marketing-library-and-information-services-in-academic-libraries-in-niger-state-1/file.doc. If you have questions about this, you are welcome to reach out to other experienced editors at the teahouse. – NJD-DE (talk) 21:37, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mirrors, serious errors[edit]

Information icon Thanks for contributing to the article Armstrong, Indiana. However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that material must be verifiable and attributed to reliable sources. You have recently used citations which copied, or mirrored, material from Wikipedia. This leads to a circular reference and is not acceptable. Most mirrors are clearly labeled as such, but some are in violation of our license and do not provide the correct attribution. Please help by adding alternate sources to the article you edited! If you need any help or clarification, you can look at Help:Contents/Editing Wikipedia or ask at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page, or just ask me. Thank you. Kuru (talk) 23:09, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lwansamulenga, you seem to have completely ignored the message above, and have now added really blatant mirrors, or sites that clearly cite wikipedia as a source to a dozen more articles: Whizziwig, John Moreno, Beautiful Garbage, November 1937, Golsinda basicornis, Chilakamarti Lakshmi Narasimham, Bandrowski, Urban park, Stares and Whispers (song),2015–16 Lech Poznań season, Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral, Lutsk,Kevin Dunn, Zang Shiyi, and Niki Nikolic. You have also used scrapers that pull in junk from unreliable sources and fail to credit material at Melody (Japanese singer), John Waller (fight director), and Ottawa Sooners. Of more concern, many times you have added sources that have absolutely nothing to do with the subject, or do not cover the claim. This is a serious problem: please stop editing until you have acknowledged this problem and can outline steps on how you will evaluate your sources in the future. I realize that you have some kind of contest going on, but you'll need to drop out of that for the time being - you seem to be making rushed edits that are not helpful, and I'm having to spend a lot of time cleaning up. Kuru (talk) 15:31, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but I have disabled this account until you respond. In this edit, you added an astounding 17 links to mirrors and one to a junk scrpaer site that I previously pointed out is not acceptable. You added other very clearly identified mirror links at Harold L. Stuart, Western bean cutworm, and Thomas Henry (patron of the arts). It is clear you are not evaluating the sources you are adding; this is wasting the time of other editors. Kuru (talk) 11:53, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

i agree and apology for the disruptive edits i have been making lately and after going through the wikipedia policy i do hereby agree and conclude that i wasnt fully mentored on how to cite on wikipedia and how to track reliable sources. If given an opportunity again i promise to seek feather guidance from experts before making edits.
your consideration is highly appreciated Lwansamulenga (talk) 12:26, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Will you please review the two sources you added below just a few hours ago? How did you evaluate the references? Why do you feel they support the material on the page?
  1. Here - added "http://dx.doi.org/10.15255/cabeq.2013.1904"
  2. Here - added "https://www.wikizero.com/en/Arkwright"
Thanks. Kuru (talk) 13:29, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Kuru once more for granting me the opportunity to clarify on the two references listed above. To start with reference numbered two (2) "https://www.wikizero.com/en/Arkwright" i felt the information on the link is as exactly as the information on the site on wikipedia hence it was my thought that it could be the reliable source of the information that is on the wikipedia article, the reference also refer to http://forebears.co.uk/surnames/arkwright as another reliable reference. Coming to reference numbered one (1) "http://dx.doi.org/10.15255/cabeq.2013.1904" i feel this isnt a reliable source for the article Brad Moss. Lwansamulenga (talk) 07:19, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, is there anything else about the Wikizero source that should be taken into consideration before adding it as a reference? On the Brad Moss example, your answer of "i feel this isnt a reliable source" did not answer the questions I asked - how did you evaluate this before adding it to that article? Why did you add it at all? Kuru (talk) 10:57, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
