MusiMax is a Canadian French language cable television specialty channel owned by Astral Media and CTVglobemedia operating out of Montreal, Quebec.
MusiMax is devoted to music and music related programming focusing more on adult contemporary, soft-rock, classic rock and lighter music then its sister station, MusiquePlus. It is considered the French language equivalent to MuchMoreMusic.
History
MusiMax was licensed by the CRTC in September 1996 by CHUM Limited and Radiomutuel and launched on September 8, 1997 with both companies holding a equal 50% in the service.
In June 1999, Astral Media announced they would make a takeover of Radiomutuel and soon gained control of Radiomutuel's assets including MusiMax shortly thereafter.
In June 2006, CTVglobemedia announced they would make a takeover bid to buy CHUM Limited. Innitial plans were to keep all of CHUM's specialty channels, although shortly CTVgm announced that they would sell MusiMax. On April 11, 2007, Astral announced that they will be aquiring the remaining 50% in MusiMax and MusiquePlus from CHUM Limited, pending CRTC approval.
