These are the following list of both live-action and animated films based on video games, or video game to film adaptations. Warcraft is currently the highest-grossing video game to film adaptation of all time as of 2022.[1] Films like Wreck-It Ralph and Ready Player One are inspired by video games but are not based on any actual game so are not included.

Timeline

At least eight films have held the record of 'highest-grossing film of all time based on a video game' since the 1993 film Super Mario Bros., assumed the top spot. Super Mario Bros. and Pokémon: The First Movie are the only two films based on Nintendo, reach the top spot, while the latter and The Angry Birds Movie are also the only two animated films to do so.

1993-1995 is the first time to do so in three consecutive years to held, and 2016 is the most frequent year with the latter two films.
