Warriors Orochi, known in Japan as Musō Orochi (無双OROCHI, Musō Orochi), is a PlayStation 2 action video game developed by Koei and Omega Force. It is a crossover of two popular video game series, Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors (Specifically Dynasty Warriors 5 and Samurai Warriors 2). The game was released on March 21, 2007 in Japan, September 18 in the United States and September 21 in Europe. Australia is scheduled to have the game on September 27. The game came out for the Xbox 360 in Japan on September 13, and the English came out on the same date as the Playstation 2 version in the United States.
Plot
A legendary, mighty demon known as Orochi the Serpent King without warning, descended from the heavens unto the earth, bringing with him untold confusion. Using his inhuman powers to shatter time and space, he created a strange, new world on a mysterious astral plane populated by the strongest, wisest and bravest warriors from the Three Kingdoms era of China and the Warring States period of Japan. He then proceeded to amuse himself by kidnapping only the strongest, wisest and courageous warriors. Most of these great armies succumbed to his might, but there were those who were ready to continue fighting. And so Orochi waited for a warrior who was worth the challenge...
There are four different stories for each of the four forces: Shu, Wei, Wu and Samurai. There are only 3 characters in each force available in the beginning of the game, as you progress through the different stages and meet certain conditions, more characters will become avaliable for you to use. Combine each characters different strengths together to make the ultimate team and take on Orochi, The Serpent King.
Shu Story
The armies of Wei and Wu have broken before the might of Orochi's Forces. The Shu army too fell to defeat, and the whereabouts of many of Shu's officers remain unknown. One such officer, Zhao Yun, was being held prisoner in Ueda Castle, now under Orochi's control.
Driven to despair by the vision of his lord Liu Bei being struck down, Zhao Yun was given fresh hope by the sudden arrival of the hermit Zuo Ci bearing unexpected news.
The game starts with you as Zhao Yun, Xing Cai, and Shimazu Yoshihiro.
Wei Story
The news of the death of Cao Cao, Lord of Wei, was reported, and it was left to his son Cao Pi, to take up leadership of the clan. Hoping to control Wei himself, Orochi sent Da Ji, his strategist, to take the offer of an alliance to Cao Pi, which he accepted.
Once this was signed, Da Ji employed Cao Pi to suppress any resistance to Orochi, in the name of maintaining law and order. Despite this, Cao Pi followed Da Ji's orders faithfully, never raising the slightest objection.
The game starts with you as Cao Pi, Zhang Liao, and Xu Huang.
Wu Story
Having been defeated by Orochi, the forces of Wu lost many of its officers, including their leader Sun Jian, to Orochi as prisoners of war. Orochi then forces Sun Jian's son Sun Ce to suppress the Resistance Army that has sprung up to fight Orochi, in exchange for their release and the safety of his father and friends..
As fate has it, Ma Chao is leading the Resistance Forces to Mt. Ding Jun, from where they would launch their campaign against Orochi. In order to save the people of Wu, Sun Ce is forced into a battle against his better instincts, a battle to suppress the brave rebels.
The game starts with you as Sun Ce, Tokugawa Ieyasu, and Hattori Hanzo.
Samurai Warriors Story
While the armies of Shu, Wei and Wu fell before the might of Orochi, another demon watched this happen, and decided that it was his role to gather enough brave warriors to defeat Orochi.
This was the man known as the Demon King, Oda Nobunaga.
The game starts with you as Oda Nobunaga, Akechi Mitsuhide, and Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
Gameplay
New elements
The following are some new gameplay mechanics added exclusively to Warriors Orochi:
- Players can take any three characters from the Dynasty and Samurai Warriors lineup into battle, forming a party. Using the R2 and L2 buttons, players can switch between the characters in their party any time during battle.
- All characters are designated either as a Power-type (red), Speed-type (blue) or Technique-type (yellow). By using the R1 button, various special attacks and abilities can be performed, depending on the character type.
- All characters have specific "personal items" that can be acquired by completing character specific objectives which also unlocks special features.
- A new system called "Weapon Fusion" which can be used if a character has at least 2 weapons, then they can fuse them into a more powerful weapon with mixed stats.

Characters
Due to the storyline of Warriors Orochi, majority of the characters have split from their respective factions and have been forced into others. However, the character selection screen still places all the characters in their original positions.
79 characters encompass the roster of Warriors Orochi: 48 from Dynasty Warriors, 29 from Samurai Warriors (Including Imagawa Yoshimoto, Kunoichi and Ishikawa Goemon from Samurai Warriors 1 who were left out in Samurai Warriors 2), and two new characters included exclusively for this game: the titular character and primary villain, Orochi (遠呂智), the mythological beast of Yamato; and Daji (妲己), the villainous concubine of King Zhou of Shang from Fengshen Yanyi. Orochi wields a very large scythe, while Da Ji fights with two floating orbs.
There are many non-playable officers who are also part of the game, all taken from both the Samurai Warriors and Dynasty Warriors games. Additionally, there are exclusive non-playable officers that are under Orochi's forces that have the appearance of demons. These demon officers are all named after various species of snakes due to the fact that Orochi is a serpent demon.
Not all characters from past games are brought back however. Fu Xi and Nu Wa from Dynasty Warriors 3 are not playable. In addition, because Warriors Orochi was released before Samurai Warriors 2 Xtreme Legends, Imagawa Yoshimoto's updated character model, Sasaki Kojiro, Shibata Katsuie, Maeda Toshiie, Chosokabe Motochika and Gracia are not playable.
