Miss Earth 2009, the 9th Miss Earth pageant, will be held between the 4th and 24th of October, 2009 in a venue yet to be announce. About 90 contestants are expected to compete in the event. On the conclusion of the final, outgoing titleholder Karla Henry of Philippines will crown her successor.

Debuts countries and territories

  • Aruba, Cook Islands, Gabon, Guinea, Iraq and Senegal will send its first ever delegate to Miss Earth.

Returns countries and territories

  • Afghanistan last compete in 2005.
  • Paraguay and Ukraine last competed in 2007.

Contestant notes

  •  Afghanistan: On October 25, 2008 a jury in Hamburg, Germany named Zallascht Sadat, Miss Afghanistan 2008-2009. The pageant was held by Afghan Models. The contest was participated by women with Afghan heritage. Vida Samadzai was the first Afghan woman to participate in an international beauty pageant since 1974. However, Sadat is the first officially elected Miss Afghanistan since Zohra Yousuf Daoud was elected in 1972. She might join Miss Earth 2009.
  •  Swaziland: On January 13, 2009, Tiffany Simelane was appointed as Miss Swaziland. It is still not clear whether Miss Swaziland will participate in the environmentally oriented 'beauties for a cause' Miss Earth pageant. Miss Swaziland licence holder Vinah Mamba-Grey said they were still not sure if Simelane will participate in this year's Miss Earth 2009 due to lack of sponsorship. She said if they could get a sponsor in time, Simelane could participate in the event.[29][30]
  •  Ukraine: The organizer will be sending Tatyana Nuestueva, Miss Earth Ukraine 2008. She failed to join last year's edition due to a political crisis.[31]
