The Canadian Red Cross Peterborough Branch is a Branch of the Canadian Red Cross. It is located in Peterborough, Ontario in the Harstone House at 565 Water Street.

RespectED: Violence & Abuse Prevention

The aim of RespectED is: “To break the cycle of abuse, neglect, harassment and interpersonal violence through prevention services, and in so doing, promote safe and supportive relationships between individuals, with in the family and throughout our communities.”[5]

  1. It’s Not Your Fault: Defines all types of abuse and neglect, explores why they happen, and where you can get help.
  2. What’s Love Got To Do With It?: Examines healthy and unhealthy relationships while stressing clues of assaultive behaviors, communication, prevention skills, legal issues and community resources.
  3. Abuse Is Not Love: Address abuse and relationship violence in a manner than respects cultural and language differences.
  4. Beyond The Hurt: Looks at all aspects of harassment and bullying, examines interpersonal power issues, the rights and responsibilities of individuals, and intervention and prevention issues.
  5. c.a.r.e. (Challenge abuse through Respect Education: Personal safety program with focus on child sexual abuse prevention, provides a learning environment focused on improving personal safety.
  6. Prevention In Motion: Helps adults and organizations to create safer environments through an increased understanding of abuse, neglect, and their indicators and effects on children.
  7. Not Just Puppy Love: Acknowledges that violent relationships are normal for many youth, examines youth relationship violence, emotional, physical, and sexual assault, and prevention strategies.
  8. Walking the Prevention Circle: Addresses the history, challenges and potential of Aboriginal individuals and communities as it examines issues relating to abuse, neglect and interpersonal violence.
  9. A Shared Responsibility: Preventing Child Sexual Abuse Through Intervention, Protection and Canada’s Laws: Educates professionals and paraprofessionals on child sexual abuse, response guidelines and Canada’s legal framework.

The RespectED program works with children, youth, and adults to provide education about:

Techniques to intervene and change the behavior are also taught.
