Hello Hafspajen. Thanks for the 'wee wally dugs' - it's always nice to add a few pics to a talk page. Actually the etymology of 'porcelain' is rather memorable, I think; my dictionary states:
"from French ''porcelaine'', from Italian ''porcellana'' cowrie shell, porcelain (from its shell-like finish), literally: relating to a sow (from the resemblance between a cowrie shell and a sow's vulva), from ''porcella'' little sow, from ''porca'' sow, from Latin".
Adds a whole new layer to the phrase above.... :) ~~~~

Vandalism

Hello, you seem to have reverted an edit of mine which you have labelled as vandalism. By your edit count, I judge you must be familiar with Wiki-rules and especially ones concerning WP:Vandalism and the principles of Wikiquette. I understand it is most probably a mistake, so I kindly ask you to retract that comment, since
a) It does not, in fact, constitute vandalism
b) I was simply reverting a user who removed info from the article without any justification at all.
Oh, and if it is indeed a mistake, feel free to revert yourself. Or at least explain why the info ought not to be there. Thanks for your time and happy editing. --Laveol T 20:45, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, Sorry, I was in a hurry, did not pay much attention cheking the watchlist. It did occured to me later that it could be wrong, but by than I was not near the computer any more. Hafspajen (talk) 08:27, 25 April 2013 (UTC).[reply]

Might be helpful

Thank you for your contributions as we've noticed that you've been making some great additions to the Wikipedia at the Komondor and Livestock guardian dog articles and we really appreciate it. The Wikipedia can use as many quality members as possible. If you need any help at all, you can contact me on my talk page or why not pop over to the Teahouse where there are always very patient, helpful and experienced editors available to give you a hand. • Much appreciated, Warrington. She's lying next to me right now with her beautiful dog eyes. In her mind, she's probably chasing rabbits all across Smaland. Drmies (talk) 14:27, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Poodle

Morning Hafspajen (or is it Warrington - I'm not sure?),

I see you are still busily working on the Poodle article! It doesn't look as if we are going to get a response from the editor(s) who were determined to have a different version included, which was what I was hoping from the RfC. What about swapping the pic in the info box for something more appropriate? Perhaps the black in the Scandinavian clip? You know a lot more about Poodles than I do, so I'll leave sorting this one out to you - I might see if I can get some 'stacked' photos of Poodles next weekend as I will be at a show. I'm still busy trying to sort out the English Setter article at the moment! SagaciousPhil - Chat 09:25, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Art glass may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Thanks, BracketBot (talk) 15:16, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hope you are having a good time pairing brackets, robot.

Leonardo

Hafspajen, I really don't know what you are about! You deleted a statement about Leonardo that was quite precise, and the reference that covered the statement. You then introduced two false facts, and cited your source as Gombrich's "The Story of Art". Let's get this right:

 • Ludovico Sforza was asked to intervene, not the Pope. The Pope was 500 kilometres away.
 • According to Vasari, Leonardo suggested to Ludovico that he might resort to using the prior as his model for Judas.
 • No biographer has suggested that he did paint the prior as Judas. You statement that the face is still that of the prior is completely erroneous.
 • Gombrich did not write this nonsense into his book.
 • The story about someone painting a portrait of someone into their picture, and someone complaining to the Pope, and the Pope saying that Hell was beyond his jurisdiction, does not apply to Leonardo da Vinci.
You've got the story half right. But it's got nothing to do with Leonardo whatsoever.
Amandajm (talk) 16:24, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You are quite right, I wasn’t paying attention. That part comes from Vasari, Leonardo suggested to Ludovico that he might resort to using the prior as his model for Judas. It also says that he did it, to. And I hope that nobody asked you to do this. Suddenly it is becoming an issue if my refs are right or wrong… Hafspajen (talk) 16:39, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

 • You cannot afford to make changes to an article that gets half a million hits a month without "paying attention". Since you were writing a few small details, and not an entire article, you can afford to be more careful.
 • it is certainly an issue if your references are wrong, or if you misquote your source in an article that is as majorly important as this one.
 • There is a very big difference between Gombrich and Vasari. If Gombrich did tell that story, then he would simply be relating what Vasari had said. Vasari is the major biographical source. As it is, Gombrich gives some artistic analysis of the picture, but does not relate that story.
 • Vasari does not state that Leonardo used the face of the prior as a model. Vasari says that in conversation with the Duke, he said that he might be forced to do it, for want of a model. The Duke laughed at the suggestion which was plainly a joke. Leonardo was looking for a way to depict a face of evil. The Prior was not evil; he was merely interfering, and lacked understanding of the artistic process. The story finishes with the prior getting flustered and going off instead to fuss about the gardeners, leaving Leonardo to finish the painting in peace.
 • I find your suggestion that "somebody asked me to do this" rather offensive. I am the major editor of the Leonardo da Vinci article. I watch every change and have to delete nearly all of them. In cases such as this, I often leave a message on the talk page of the editor explaining why the deletion has been made. Many of the additions to the article are about recent speculation that is unproven, or goes into a lot of detail about a particular artwork. In these cases I leave people messages directing them to the most appropriate place to put the additional information.
If you are continually rather sloppy with your references, than you are likely to have a number of editors chasing you, without them acting in concert.
Amandajm (talk) 11:22, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you are quite right. I am a sloppy editor. I should stop editing. Maybe I should stop existing, so nobody should be offended. Hafspajen (talk) 10:35, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Komondor pics

I have uploaded some pics of a male and female Komondor to commons - not very good pics, I'm afraid! The dogs are only one year old so do not have mature coats yet but they certainly are huge dogs. The male is apparently over 30 inches already. Search for Komondor as that's what I've labelled them. SagaciousPhil - Chat 09:41, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

They really are not good but they are here; sorry I'm trying to do upload from my iPhone and I'm not good at typing on the very small screen!

both are only just over 12 months old, so do not have proper cords developed yet
I have also just done some of a white Standard Poodle
Komondor female
There are others - maybe look under uploads under my name on commons? SagaciousPhil - Chat 11:51, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Poodle

I'm not sure if you are watching my talk page but I had replied to you there to say I think I've sorted the info box pic, so I await your approval...... The quality of this pic is a bit better as my little phone was more able to cope with the lighting but it's far better to have the 'stacked' pic in the info box. I'm just filling your talk page with pics!!!! SagaciousPhil - Chat 12:25, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Staffordshire dog figurines

I am very impressed with the article! I have adjusted the references, so please have a look to make sure I have got them right - change them quickly if I've done it incorrectly. This is interesting, see page 35. They are called 'Wally dugs' in Scotland and were often a feature on mantelpieces in Glasgow tenements apparently. The designer that collection is about has an article Enid Marx, so maybe it could be tied in somehow?. I've not managed to find any Commons pics of an ornament to use yet - I like the art you have used though as I do like good paintings! I'll see if I can find more later. There was an old discussion at the Wikipedia reference desk at the start of 2008. SagaciousPhil - Chat 10:15, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not the most beautiful of Pottery Spaniels but this is the only one I can find - I think the licence is okay as it was CC-2.0? They are not a matching pair. SagaciousPhil - Chat 15:31, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Tea snobbery

I moved your recent contributions to Tea to the article's talk page because of concerns of copyright/plagiarism, WP:V, and WP:OR violations. Please be more careful when adding material to articles. I've pointed out on the talk page that at minimum it should be reworded and better verified with sources from the tea.co.uk reference. --Ronz (talk) 16:43, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I added that because that part was for a long time in the Tea (meal) article. When Logical Cowboy removed it, [1] with the motivation that it does not belong to the article tea as a meal, but rather to tea, I put that there, that´s all. Considering that it was in the article for a long time didn’t bother much to check it. I do not know who made the initial contribution. Hafspajen (talk) 12:22, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation. Seemed very odd... I'll leave it on the talk page for now. --Ronz (talk) 14:48, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yes, it was odd. Kind of a suprise too. Hafspajen (talk) 15:33, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Americans and afternoon tea

Just a friendly suggestion: before you tell someone they don't know Americans, take a minute to check their nationality. Low tea is never used in the U.S., nor is high tea eaten in the U.S. Americans use (or misuse, depending on the which side of the argument you're on) the term high tea for what the British would describe as afternoon tea, under the assumption that high is a class referent. Tea is rarely eaten; most of it is drunk from a mug with at tea-tag hanging over the edge; America has few tea rituals and little knowledge of the finer distinctions in the language of tea except among Anglophiles.

Stub?

Couldn't Staffordshire dog figurines be 'start' class rather than a 'stub', if I ask very, very nicely? Pretty please? Otherwise I might have to cry - I think it has more content than most stubs! SagaciousPhil - Chat 16:24, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
