2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is the official upcoming video game for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, published by EA Sports for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.[1] It will be released in April 2014, as was the case with the 2010 edition.

There are no plans to bring the game to PlayStation 4, Xbox One or PC due to "prohibitively low next-gen adoption rates" in certain markets, most notably Brazil (the World Cup hosts).[2][3]

Gameplay

Gameplay improvements from FIFA 14 include dribbling, an increased accuracy in passing and first-touch mechanics.

The game will feature Road to the FIFA World Cup, a mode where players can choose from 203 national teams and play through qualification and the actual FIFA World Cup. Another mode, Road to Rio de Janeiro, will allow players to compete in an online tournament across the 12 venues of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Fan celebrations have improved, including cut-ins of fans (of the player's national team) watching the game back home celebrating if the player scores.

The Captain Your Country, Online FIFA World Cup, Story of Qualifying, and Story of the Finals modes from the 2010 edition will be returning.

Features

Patriotic Presentation

Stadium confetti, fireworks, and streamers contribute to the pomp and pageantry of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.[4]

EA SPORTS 2014 FIFA World Cup marks the return of one of the most popular FIFA game modes of all time. Start from the bottom, work your way up the squad list and eventually lead your country through qualifying, and on to the FIFA World Cup. A brand new auto-positioning system makes the mode accessible to new players.

Road to Rio de Janeiro

Additional Modes

2014 FIFA World Cup, Kick Off, Skill Games, Online Friendlies, EA SPORTS Football Club.

Key Features

World Class Control

All-new control system which includes additional dribbles and flicks. New passing animations, including both ground and outside of the foot curling passes, will open the door to more attacking options.

Set Piece Tactics

Turn quicker at every angle and keep the ball under control. Using the left trigger, fans will find success beating opponents at slow speeds with the new dribbling system. Plus, use all-new new flicks, dribbles, and a new Brazilian-inspired skill move to beat defenders.

New Penalty Kicks

Feel the drama of FIFA World Cup penalty kicks with new save animations and a shot tuning that puts players in control of their nation's fate. Penalty Kicks in the run of play now have players on the edge of the box and ready to rush at spilled shots. Also, distract the kick-taker by using Goalkeeper Antics to throw them off using a series of animations including wobbly-knees, matador, and shoot-it-there animations.

Over-the-Back Headers

Jump over your opponent's back to win the possession battle and head the ball. In one example - defenders can now jump over the back of a holding attacker to clear the ball to safety.

adidas Ball Physics

EA SPORTS and adidas® partner to deliver the most realistic ball physics system on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Taking physics data from the adidas Innovation Lab in Herzogenaurach, Germany, EA SPORTS FIFA development team implemented it in EA SPORTS 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil to give the Brazuca and other adidas balls true-to-life flight and grass friction in the game.

adidas micoach Training

Complete adidas micoach training sessions to boost in-game attributes for individual players on your team. Choose from six different attribute boosts and 18 different drills to improve your players' performance during the tournament.

Teams and venues

The game contains all of the 203 national teams that took part in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification process. The national teams of Bhutan, Brunei, Guam, Mauritania and South Sudan, all of which did not participate in World Cup qualifying, will not be featured in the game.

The game includes all 12 venues used at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, as well as stadiums from each qualifying region and a range of "generic" stadiums.[5]

Soundtrack

As of yet, EA Sports have not officially announced the soundtrack to this title, although the game will feature EA Sports Talk Radio, featuring game-related commentary by Andy Goldstein, Ian Darke, Michael Davies and Roger Bennett.

Criticism

Due to the unavailability of the game on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, there has been criticism surrounding the development of the game.[citation needed] As of yet, there are no plans to bring the game to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC due to "prohibitively low next-gen adoption rates" in certain markets, most notably Brazil, the World Cup hosts.[2][3]
