The DS 9 is a premium mid-size sedan produced by the French car manufacturer DS Automobiles in China from 2020, and is marketed in Europe and Asia.
Presentation
Originally, the DS 9 (internal code X83) was to be unveiled in April 2019 at Auto Shanghai,[1] but its presentation was postponed for the first time in November for Auto Guangzhou in China,[2] then a second time until March 2020. Following the end of the Changan PSA Automobiles (CAPSA)[3] joint venture of PSA and Changan Automobile, which took over the Shenzhen plant where Chinese DS are built, signed an agreement to produce DS, including the next DS 9 in Shenzhen.
On 20 February 2020, DS announces the imminent presentation of a new model.[4] This is the DS 9 which was unveiled on 27 February 2020 to the press and it was finally due to make its first appearance on 3 March 2020 at the 90th edition of the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[5]
Unlike the DS 7 Crossback which is produced both in France and in China, the DS 9 is assembled only in China by Baoneng, in its factory in Shenzhen.[6]
Technical characteristics
The DS 9 is based on the EMP2 modular technical platform of Groupe PSA in its longest version, which is used in particular for its cousin the Peugeot 508.
Its dashboard is largely inspired by that of the DS 7 Crossback.[7]
Engines
The DS sedan will be offered only in E-Tense Hybrid (PHEV) version, the same engine of the Peugeot 508 PHEV with 1.6 Turbo petrol engine and an electric motor. The combined system output will be 225 PS (165 kW; 222 hp).[8] The 225 hp variant will later be joined by 250 hp FWD and 360 hp AWD E-Tense variants.[8]
