She is the daughter of Marianne Birgitte Gudnitz who works in a kindergarden and Ingvar de Forest (his fathers last name), born Ingvar Söderhielm Engström (last name after his mother) (1938–2010), a Swedish art connoisseur, antique trader and breeder of the sledge dog Siberian Husky. He became nordic champion, wining, gold several times with his sledge dogs and later on named breeder of the century. He was the son of Baron Maurice Arnold de Forest, whom he later inherited along with brothers and sister and the son of Irma Paula Margaretha Söderhielm Engström. Later Countess Margaretha Armfelt when she married Count Armfelt. She is out of the old swedish noble family Söderhielm on her mothers side. Her father was a rich merchent. She lived with Baron Arnold Maurice de Forest (later he was given the name Count Arnold Maurice de Bendern Franz Joseph of Lichtenstein) for 45 years, but they never married. She stayed with him until his death. They were engaged in 1938 when they travelled through Europe. At that time Margaretha was pregnant with Maurice Arnold de Forest's son. Ingvar de Forest was born the 11th of November 1938 in Stockholm. On the 4th of november (4 days before Ingvar was born) Maurice Arnold de Forest signed the papers and acknowledged paternity as father of Ingvar de Forest. He also payed 18.000 Swedish Crowns to Margaretha and their son and Ingvar was then placed in a villa in Stockholm together with his old grandmother, his sister Ethel and a lot of nannies. The Baron, Arnold Maurice de Forest payed for the household, so that his son was taken good care of. After 3 months his mother Margaretha joined baron de Forest at one of his many households in southern Europe, leaving her infant son in Sweden. Later on World war 2 started and Ingvar did not see his mother again until he was 8 years old and his father before he was 15 years old. Instead of his mothers name he choose to take his fathers last name "de Forest" in the late nineteen sixties. Baron Arnold Maurice de Forest was videly believed to be the son of king Edward the 7th and the son of a niece of the emperror of Austria. The name they used to protect her was Juliette Arnold. Genealogists has tried to disprove it, but it has been said by other genealogists that it can neither be proved or disproved. The birth certificate is false, the name of the parents and the date of birth was changed. There has been misunderstandings of when Maurice Arnold de Forest really was born. Officially he was born the 9th of January 1879 but other papers form the government, papers he has signed himself, show that he was born the 3rd of Jannuary 1879. It is also rumoured that he was the son of two American circus artists, became an orphan and was adopted by Baron von Hirsch who was Edward the 7th's economy advisor. They had a close friendship. On the 16th of April 2013 Danish newspaper BT, brought a story about Emmelie's ancestry and that Danish television would withdraw the story about her royal background, since it could be verifyed. They took the responsebility for the story getting out, as they thought it was a funny story and discovered it by coincidence. Emmelie has never been very interested in the story and not excited about getting the story out and she and her family has only done it with good intensions. It is not something that was made up for media attention. It is a story that has been videly known inside and outside the family and even in the media for several years. Books and articles has been written without ever questioning if Arnold Maurice was Edward the 7th's son. It was even well known when Arnold Maurice was still alive. In the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's it was on the cover of all magazines in europe and it was the biggest case of inheritance. The Baron de Forest (at that time Count de Bendern) died in 1968. He left 30 billions after his death causing a big fight in the family over the moneys, which made it a story that all europe could read about for several years. The story of the Royal background was also on the cover of all magazines showing pictures of Ingvar de Forets and his resemblence of the english royal family, Prince Charles, Queen Victoria and King Edward the 7th and Arnold Maurice de Forest. Even though it was a well known story years ago, also to genealogists, no one has tried to disprove it, untill now. But Scottish expert on the british royal family Tony Martin said in BT on the 16th of April: Now I have researched for a long time, and it has been impossible for me to prove family ties between Emmelie the Forest and Queen Victoria. There are things we do not know as there is a lack of source material, but there is a connection with Emmelie the Forest's ancestry and the British monarchy, said genealogist Tony Martin, but how exactly they are related, have been impossible to find. http://m.bt.dk/f/?article=25222212-DR-i-grandprix-panik-Tvivl-om-Emmelie-de-Forests-baggrund |

She is the daughter of Ingvar Engström (1938–2010), a Swedish commoner and son of Irma Engström, who late in life adopted the surname ''de Forest''. Her father claimed to be the natural son (out of wedlock) of [[Maurice Arnold de Forest]], a claim which remains unsubstantiated. Maurice Arnold de Forest was himself the son of two American circus artists, became an orphan and was adopted by a wealthy couple.<ref name="royal musings">{{cite web |url=http://royalmusingsblogspotcom.blogspot.no/2013/02/emmelie-de-forest-great-great.html |title= Emmelie de Forest is NOT a great-great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria |last1=Eilers Koenig |first1=Marlene A. |authorlink1= Marlene A.
