I don't want to add unfounded speculation, but I think this is a reasonable basis for informed speculation. If he's Montenegran and starting for S&M, he's likely to start for Montenegro right? |
Philc 0780 (talk | contribs) Apparently not, as the S+M team will be renamed Serbia, and the Montenegro team will have to find new ones, but will not come into being until 2008 anyway. |

Revision as of 17:47, 11 June 2006
The Montenegro national football team will come into existence following the 2006 FIFA World Cup; the last event at which as of 3 June 2006, the independent states of Serbia and Montenegro will compete in a united team.
UEFA have stated that they would be willing to include Montenegro as a late entry in Euro 2008 qualifying, but several barriers may well prevent this - UEFA have stated that they would need FIFA to ratify a separate Montenegrin Football Association, and this would have to be done before September 2006 - when qualifying begins.[1]
This makes it more likely that the first competitive competition for the mens' senior team will be 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying.
World Cup record
- 1930 to 2002 - Did not enter, was part of Yugoslavia
- 2006 - Did not enter, was part of Serbia and Montenegro
European Championship record
- 1960 to 2000 - Did not enter, was part of Yugoslavia
- 2004 - Did not enter, was part of Serbia and Montenegro
