Hi Diannaa, I'm hoping you can help me out with an issue related to the D-amino acid page. You recently caught a bunch of copyrighted text that had been copy-pasted from another site and removed those edits from the history. Thank you! The issue that I'm having is that those edits were done by a student from one of my courses who I'm now worried has plagiarized this and other assignments. We offer students the opportunity to construct a "creative project" in the place of a more formal essay as their final grade in the course, and this student chose to spruce up the D-amino acids page. I gave this the OK and directed the student to Wikipedia's many resources for student editing, including WP:STUDENTS and the online training: https://dashboard.wikiedu.org/training/students. I'm partially to blame for the violations that occurred on the page because I didn't go through the more formal process of creating a class page and documenting every edit, but this was a single student and I certainly wasn't expecting to deal with copyright and plagiarism issues. Anyway, I'm wondering whether there's any way I can see the bot report and/or the page as it was on 22:46, 3 June 2021‎ after the student finished editing and before the edits were rolled back. Anything you can provide would be welcome, and apologies again for my own role in this issue. Daemyth (talk) 17:39, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

Dmberry1 first post

Hello Diannaa,

Thank you for sending me a message about my first edit. I see that my post could be edit better and should be worked on to fit the guide lines and policies of Wikipedia. The next time I get a chance, I will go back and edit the page so I can be on track with making a good knowledge post that works with the parameters.

Thank you again for sending that message. I mainly wanted to message you back so show I saw it and I will do my best

Thanks, - Dmberry1 Dmberry1 (talk) 20:11, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Dmberry1! Sorry all did not go well with your first attempt at editing.— Diannaa (talk) 21:19, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Attribution question

Hi Diannaa, I have a nitpicky question on attribution: If I add text and a source to an article, save it, and then copy that content whole to another article, do I need to state what article it came from in the edit summary? Thanks. BilCat (talk) 22:23, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you are the sole author of the copied text, attribution is not required.— Diannaa (talk) 23:05, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. So if I include some wording that was already there in what I copy, then I should attribute it, I assume. BilCat (talk) 23:14, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, please— Diannaa (talk) 02:01, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Revdel request

Hi Diannaa, could you check this soapbox rant, and see if it needs to.be deleted? It looks like it might contain some copyrighted text. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 22:34, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not finding any matches for that.— Diannaa (talk) 23:04, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. Should it be deleted anyway? There are some specific names of people in all that, and some of it appear to be from private communications. BilCat (talk) 23:13, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe you should ask the oversight team, I'm not sure. Go to WP:Oversight for the email link— Diannaa (talk) 02:04, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Solar road stud post from Dmberry1 help request.

Hello again Diannaa. I am retrying my revision of the Wikipedia page Solar road stud again. I believe this time I have managed to write it all in my own words with adding the necessary references. But I am still not completely sure if I have everything correct. Since you are the one that noticed my mistakes on my last attempt, could I ask for your assistance in reviewing my newest version of the page and give me any advice or pointers if I got anything incorrect please.

Thanks again for all of your assistance! Dmberry1 (talk) 23:24, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The new version is okay from a copyright point of view. Thanks,— Diannaa (talk) 10:28, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Diannaa,

Thank you for the information on Wikipedia and copyright. It is definitely very informative and useful for me to understand creating articles without any copyright violation. Meanwhile I would appreciate if you could let me know which section of the article on "Chiral switch" comes under copyright violation. Valliappan Kannappan (talk) 13:43, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Valliappan Kannappan Your addition was flagged by a bot as a potential copyright issue and was assessed by myself. Here is a link to the bot report. Click on the iThenticate link to view what the bot found. You had already removed the copied content yourself when I arrived at the page.— Diannaa (talk) 13:48, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Diannaa Thank you for the quick response. After editing this new section on "Metabolite switch" I received a mail stating a change in the article. I thought it is something to do with copyright violation. Immediately I edited the content. Hope now it is fine. Do you find any other issue in the article? This is my second article in Wikipedia. I believe soon I will learn the process. Thank you once again. Valliappan Kannappan (talk) 14:16, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's not practical for me to manually check the article against a source that is over 700 pages long and it's not possible for me to do so with the automated tools I have available either. You will have to think about it and try to remember if there was any further text you copied from that book. Using Earwig's tool, I have now found there was some text copied from https://bmcmedicine.biomedcentral.com/track/pdf/10.1186/1741-7015-10-142.pdf, which is compatibly licensed. So I have added the attribution required under the terms of the license: Diff of Chiral switch.— Diannaa (talk) 14:32, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for the revdelete on The Jungle (San Jose). I made a mental note to revdelete my copy/paste error from my word processing program, but then forgot. Usually I write these things down, but I got busy. I don't know how you spotted it (copyvio detector?), but regardless, thanks for cleaning up my c/p error! North America1000 15:50, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it was spotted by the bot. — Diannaa (talk) 19:59, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the link. I was not aware of this particular bot, nor the CopyPatrol page you linked to. North America1000 23:06, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Diannaa, I just created this article and it appears that it had been deleted years ago because of copyright violations. However, there are a number of links from "copyright problems" (see this) which I find bad. I do not understand this. Am I missing something? Thanks. ─ The Aafī (talk) 13:30, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The version of the page that contained a copyright problem was deleted on June 20, 2011. It has nothing to do with the new version of the article that you just created.— Diannaa (talk) 13:40, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Diannaa. Could you look at the above and make it copyvio free or delete? The creator JSeb05 is a good faith user who says the copyvio came from translation or es-wiki, and would like to continue editing it. Thanks. More here, should you desire extra reading. --- Possibly (talk) 01:17, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Or perhaps just rev-deling everything before and including 1027946884 ? Thanks. --- Possibly (talk) 01:19, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Revision deletion done. Thanks, — Diannaa (talk) 12:21, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am obviously new at editing. I had doubts about the way I did this but wanted to jump in and try. I will revisit later and try again.

Hello, Diannaa. An editor has done multiple copyvios mainly from this book, although they have made some superficial changes in the text here and there . I can see you've done a lot of research into this problem but I don't have access to the book and don't want to do revision deletion on your say-so alone. I see you have not removed any of the suspect text from any of the three articles. Could you do that please? and also, it's important to explain to the other editor what they did wrong. There's a couple of templates available to to that, or you could explain it to them in your own words. Thanks,— Diannaa (talk) 02:21, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There is a snippet view available [10] and you can check my source quotations through it, and I have already compared them with the editor's text. I have already warned them – see at the bottom of this thread. I will try to send you the relevant pages by email. Thanks. - NitinMlk (talk) 02:44, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please check your email. - NitinMlk (talk) 02:55, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Copywright Violation Claim

If you check the Talk:Nahko and Medicine for the People it may resolve your view that what was claimed as a copyright violation was in fact not, and if you check both the source there and the one that was removed from the article, no info was directly copy and pasted, I can not see the history now, but I'm sure nothing violates the rule of thumb of not using three words the same as the source without quotes. This revert hurts the effort to get this out of a stub. As of right now it highlights one controversy that is the subject of vandalism. I also was not the person who sourced this to begin with, and made edits to the paragraph in question after it was originally added to the page. There is no way that it infringed any copyright, so hopefully we can at least get the revisions unlocked so that we can make it better, as there is a better source anyway, again I defer to the talk page of the article in question.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Cap dz (talkcontribs) 08:38, June 13, 2021‎ (UTC)

Your addition was flagged by a bot as a potential copyright issue and was assessed by myself. Here is a link to the bot report. Click on the iThenticate link to view what the bot found. Copyvios; revdel?

Hi Diannaa, a new IP, User:88.241.55.210 is lifting material directly from a blog (3 instances). I've deleted 2 but 1 remains (I don't know how to delete specific content from history without also wiping everything after the offending version. Cheers to you. Haploidavey (talk) 12:45, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the report. Everything has been removed and revision deleted. I found that there are (so far) 3 IPs adding this stuff:
Hm, I didn't expect that! The blog is virtually anonymous. Ta for the note. Haploidavey (talk) 15:30, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
All three IPs geolocate to the same place.— Diannaa (talk) 15:32, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Try as I might, I can't imagine how anyone could think to benefit from all that. Haploidavey (talk) 15:52, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

D-amino acids revdel

Daemyth (talk) 17:39, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
