Le Labo (French: "the lab")[1] is a perfume brand based in New York City and owned by Estée Lauder.[2][3]

History

Le Labo was founded in 2006 in New York City.[4][5] and later acquired by Estée Lauder Companies in 2014.[6][7][8][9] The brand is now overseen by Deborah Royer who serves as both the Global Brand President and Creative Director].[10]

Products

Le Labo’s main line includes 19 fragrances and 9 ambient room scents. The formulations do not include animal products, paraben, preservatives or coloration, and are not tested on animals. Fragrances are compounded at the time of purchase with the client's name printed on the labels of the boxes and the perfume bottles. While they are known for their candles and perfumes, Le Labo also sells shampoos, body wash, soap, shower gels, and other various body products.[11] Le Labo also retails items such as tote bags, detergents, and note books online. The brand produces 18 City Exclusive scents which are available only at specific locations. For example, VANILLE 44 is sold in Paris, GAIAC 10 in Tokyo.

Fragrances

Le Labo fragrances are named after the primary scent note and the total number of ingredients.[12] Another 13 is an exception to this convention, as it was named after Another Magazine.[13]

City Exclusives

Le Labo City Exclusives are a limited edition collection of fragrances, each named for a different city. The fragrances are typically only available in that city, but during an annual event they are available globally.[14]

Locations

The first store opened on 233 Elizabeth Street in New York's Nolita neighborhood.[11] The brand has standalone boutiques and counters in department stores in countries and regions including the US, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Mexico, UK, Germany, France, Belgium, Hong Kong, UAE, Kuwait, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, China, South Korea,[15] Thailand, and Australia.[16]

In popular culture

In Beyoncé's 2016 visual album Lemonade, the singer was depicted burning two Le Labo Santal 26 candles during the sequence for "Sandcastles".[17]

In the movie Red, White & Royal Blue, the character Alex wears Le Labo Santal 33.[18]
