RE:Arisedrink blanking pages

Well, I appreciate you coming to me with this issue. It's obvious that Arisedrink is nothing but a little vandal. As far as him blanking his own talk page, I don't think we can do anything about it as it is his talk page and there are rules about that sort of thing. However, I will take this to an admin I know and ask him for more info just in case. Blizzard Beast $ODIN$ 22:05, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I was wondering how you found info about the character that Dwayne voiced in Mirmo and Machine Robo. I know him and even he was having some trouble remembering the characters he voiced. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.114.64.7 (talk) 22:42, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edward

Ok, I will look for an image but there is no need for another one from the anime unless the appearance of the character is too much different in both versions. Edward doesnt look different in both version so there is no need.Tintor2 (talk) 13:42, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

KAL 007 citation needed

WhisperToMe, I need your comment and advice. I am having difficulty finding the citation for this - "All of these items [listed in the text] came from only one section of KAL 007 - the passenger cabin including the 747's distinctive hump. Nothing appeared on the beaches from the cargo area below - such as packing crates, luggage, electoric equipment, sports and musical equipment etc.[citation needed]" I will try a bit more. But I think that you are requesting the citation for the last part about nothing appearing from the cargo area, rather than all the first part about all that was recovered and it being from the cabin area. I do have the citation for that. Am I correct that the citation request is for the last part? If I can't find it after a bit, I would be content with just supplying the citation for the first partBert Schlossberg (talk) 19:21, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Garland

I don't know what the sources were for the addition of the infoboxes, but they use US Census data; ask the operator of CapitalBot, which used the Census for the information it put in the infoboxes. Nyttend (talk) 02:54, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a source. Sort the table by NAMES, and in column C (the county column) you'll see that parts of Garland are listed as being in counties 85, 113, and 397. Next, go to the list of counties in Texas to check the FIPS codes (left side column in the table), and you'll see that the counties with these FIPS codes are Collin, Dallas, and Rockwall. Please reconsider your comment

Following the links from a CfD, I noticed this comment you left on the page of a newbie user. As per WP:BITE, please consider refactoring that comment (as understandable as your frustration is). Noroton (talk) 16:26, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the "category" will certainly be deleted, the new editor is going to be very disappointed, maybe even a little outraged to see his work go down the tubes (I know I was when it first happened to me). I looked quickly and got the impression the editor wanted to add this information to the high school article but you objected to that (for lack of citations, right?), and it looks like the editor hasn't added it back. So is there anything really urgent here? If you're sure you want to make that comment, then "please respond" would probably work better than "pay attention", IMHO. Cheers, Noroton (talk) 17:34, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rc-135/converted Boeing

Hi Whisper, Rc-135 is a converted Boeing but a 707. When Osipovich saw the double line of windows, which only the 747 had, he know that this was a civilian plane - which he had previously denied, hence the "acknowledgement"Bert Schlossberg (talk) 02:18, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When performing the above stated move, you have accidentally separated the article from its talk page, resulting in a talk page at both the current article's location (Talk:Keihanshin) and at the redirect's location (Talk:Osaka-Kobe-KyotoKeihanshin). Can you fix this? Thanks! JPG-GR (talk) 05:25, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Death Note

I'd like to work on getting all of that creation information reformatted and trimmed down for now, as I tried before I left. Currently, the information is just thrown down onto the articles without any real format or regard for importance. Examples include the notes of L's design in three different places at once and a trivial little note about a fighting style (that's the kind of info for a Death Note wiki). After that, I'd like to go on to merging those articles back to the main one if true reception cannot be found, but that can be worried about later. Is this something we can work out? TTN (talk) 21:29, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I already have some reception for Light, L, and Misa (as of writing she has the most). I suppose I could find more (maybe related to the film) - In addition the person who reviewed the episodes that have L, Light, and Misa in them has not reviewed the ones with Near and Mello yet, so I suppose he will give reception relating to those characters when he gets to those. Also when the films are released in the USA more people will review it and it will be easier to add more reception to the film versions of the characters.

Regarding information in different places, reorganizing is fine. Which sentences should I group together?

Regarding information like the fighting style, what is best is to ask on the talk page and see if the information belongs in the article. The Death Note Wikia now exists, so I suppose this could be transferred there if there is a consensus that the "capoeira" fighting style bit is not encyclopedic. WhisperToMe (talk) 21:35, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The current reception is fairly lackluster at this point. IGN really isn't that great of a site for anime reviews, especially if they're only from one person (unless the anime and manga project has had some large discussion on it that I never saw or something). That's not to say that it wouldn't work as supplemental information, but it's pretty much filler on it's own. It just doesn't support wide standing notability. Other specific information can be mixed in well elsewhere if that's all there is at the moment.
It's not just about rearranging the information. It's about combining it to have it flow well, removing the whole "X said, Y said" formatting. Take a look at the revision I made to the list a while ago, if you can find it, to see what I mean. TTN (talk) 21:46, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Which sites would make more meaningful anime commentary? Surely one of them would have reviewed Death Note too and I would find commentary specific to characters. That would be great as it could maybe show differing perspectives in the anime and/or manga portrayals of the characters. The main reason why I had X said, Y said is that the information is from a primary or quasi-primary source, but if consensus deems that not needed I could trim that down. However there were two people involved so it helps to explain which person made which decisions. IMO stuff that is definately in the Wikia territory is in-universe content that is very specific to the series.
I'll go through this revision [2] and evaluate it in a bit... WhisperToMe (talk) 21:54, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding the revision, I believe that the general style is fine but that it should strive to keep as much information as possible that is non-trivial. For instance, the following were missing in the TTN revision:
Fact that Ohba had created "Ryuzaki" alias excluded - the reasoning for the alias is still there, but it does not mention Ohba made the decision
That Obata made L's appearance contrast to Light's and that Obata and Ohba held the idea is not there.
Ohba including ideas in the thumbnails after leaving the design to Obata
What I would suggest is to reorganize but in a way that keeps the information. If you feel a bit is trivial remove it and place the quote on the talk page so we could discuss how and why it is trivial and see what other editors think. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:04, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's one of the main problems with trying to get good reception sections going for single characters. Sites like IGN and the like are good for breading (the information from them shouldn't be more than a sentence or two), but there is hardly any meat out there. I have yet to see any anime or DVD review site that amounts to anything more than amateur/fan writing, and even using those hardly builds an accurate reception section that truly shows how the character is notable. Maybe the project has some good links?
I understand the mindset of that, but it's really just unnecessary and it really leaves out any potential for FA-style writing. The point is to take the thoughts of those two and combine them into one nicely worded section that leaves a good impression of what they're trying to get across. That's what I tried to do in my revision. Though, note that was only the first pass (that's why I missed including some of the information mentioned above also). The final version would probably be much better. TTN (talk) 22:07, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the reason why I chose IGN is that the site is very prominent (think of Rotten Tomatoes, which is now owned by IGN) and that the reviewer is a staff member of the site. There are probably other sites like this which have notability and prominent reviewers, but I am not sure where they are. Do you think the best step is to try paring down reception sections of individual characters and posting the revisions in the talk pages? Maybe people will see whether the revisions work. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:18, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would certainly say that it's very prominent in the area of video game reviews, which would allow for something the size of Misa's reception to be placed in a game article, but when it comes to everything else, it's more of a footnote. It's mentioned in reception sections of some of our television show and film FAs, but it never has much weight. The same should go for anime as well, I imagine.
I guess that would be a decent method, but I really think the best thing to do in this case would be to combine trimmed versions of all of the current character articles back into the one list, and work towards a style similar to Characters of Carnivàle. Then after the information is complied, it'll give a good view of the necessary weight of the characters, and allow for nice compact articles to be split off again, if it comes to that. But, if we're just working to get the current articles trimmed and formatted, the former idea works fine. TTN (talk) 22:31, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What we could do is see if we can merge back Near (Death Note) and Mello (Death Note) after information is consolidated. IMO for now the current articles should be formatted well. WhisperToMe (talk) 23:25, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I'll attempt it sometime today or tomorrow then. If you have concerns about them, can you try to edit them to your liking instead of just reverting right back? If they have to be flipped completely turned around a few times, that's fine, but that's better than going back to square one. TTN (talk) 00:02, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mass Evacuation of East Texas/Houston

I have been kicking this around for the past few months, but do you think "The Evacuation" should have its own article as far as Houston itself goes? --Hourick (talk) 17:29, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cool. I guess I'll get started on it. I'll collect all the sources, put it in a sandbox and I'll start from there. I think the title of it should be "The Evacuation" since that's what we call it or should it just be "The Houston 2008 Hurricane Rita evacuation" or "exodus."

Fair use rationale for Image:MokubaKaiba.PNG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:MokubaKaiba.PNG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Project FMF (talk) 00:33, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Iwate Prefectural Board of Education

Thank you for creating Iwate Prefectural Board of Education. BTW, I found you moved Iwate Prefectural Morioka First High School to Morioka First High School. Do you have any special reason? Because this school says its official English name is Iwate Prefectural Morioka First High School. It's kind of confusing because Morioka Third High School says its official is "~Third", but in my opinion, as long as they say "Dai ichi" is an official, it's more appropriate to use the original one. --Tomo_suzuki ( talk ) 22:09, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aldine

This problem is common in California and Florida, and it appears in Oregon and Washington too. What we've done in those states is to treat them like CDPs that aren't at all annexed: since part of the CDP remains unincorporated, the CDP remains, and so it continues to be listed on the CDP line. A tag has been placed on Moonshine Hill, Houston, Texas, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. However, this is my opinion, and I understand others may oppose it. Otherwise, please do not take personal shots against me. I have ONE note about mis-tagging, which was one of my first ever tags. Don't do tha, please

Please don't reverse an administrative action without discussion. You said "I'm going to have to immediately restore this page" - not you don't have to! You don't immediately have to do anything, and there's no harm in waiting a few hours and discussing it. My deletion was perfectly proper, it was a negative wholly unsourced biography, and such things may be summarily deleted under WP:BLP. It clearly violated BLP in every previous version. The onus isn't on me source it - unsourced negative material gets removed, period. The onus is on the person wanting it to source it (as you have done). If you had had the courtesy to discuss this with me, I would have indicated that had no problem restoring the article if you wished immediately to source it to comply with BLP. But you always discuss with the deleting admin first. Please do not do that again, the last person to reverse my BLP related deletions was put under an arbcom restriction. However, on this occasion there is no harm done.--Docg 09:47, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Two reasons to leave in "unlinked" pages in a template

Hi! Uhm, the point of adding unlinked items in a template is to highlight the fact that pages are needed and to gradually work toward completion of the list. Tee Owe (talk) 01:31, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yep I read that. Still not impressed. I believe all of the middle schools should be included in the template whether they are linked or not. At any rate, Fort Settlement clearly meets the notably standard as it was a Blue Ribbon School in 2007. Tee Owe (talk) 01:58, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Great job on the articles for the Death Note characters

I've noticed these articles for a while, and am always impressed with the amount of work editors contributing to anime or video game character articles put into them. As someone who has added real-world impact/ notability to several soap opera character articles, with many more to go, I always appreciate character articles that already have that (one or the other, or both). It's great to go to a character article and see more than just plot. I just stopped by the Near (Death Note) article to see if he's L's son, and enjoyed reading the creation and concept for him. I wish he was L's son, though. Him and Mello (Death Note). A least one of the creators thought about making them L's sons. I started watching that show online (in Japanese) first, then got behind when my computer broke down (though both of my computers are currently broke down at the moment; been using PlayStation 3 to communicate online) and now I've been watching from the beginning (in English) on television.

Anyway, take care. Flyer22 (talk) 06:11, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

History merges?

Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scrolls needs a history merge to Basilisk (manga) but does Basilisk (Mutant) need one with Basilisk (comics)? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 02:57, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm not particularly sure - I mean you can do it if you want, but I am unsure whether a history merge is the best thing or not the best thing. WhisperToMe (talk) 02:58, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Can't delete them since I lack the deletion tools. Should I ask someone else? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 03:15, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I can delete pages, but at the moment I do not know how to merge the edits. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:20, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just had a thought, I'll ask a sysop who I haven't spoke to in a while. Hope he's not too busy. Thanks anyway, Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 03:27, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome :) WhisperToMe (talk) 03:31, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New School Related Stubs

I see that you have created new school district stubs. It would be wonderful if you could use {{school-stub}} instead of just the basic stub template. Also, you may want to consider taking pictures of the schools, if you so wish.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:SaintSeiyaLogoUS.PNG)

Thanks for uploading Image:SaintSeiyaLogoUS.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:05, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your note

I don't think that navboxes are bad as a whole. I do think that to include a TV guide navbox in an accident article is inappropriate. It is large, ugly, and mostly irrelevant to the accident. Crum375 (talk) 02:17, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Snafu Comics

re: accidents and incidents (IAH)

just wanted to say thanks for the editing; having a young kid and little sleep is usually a bad combo when trying to type or think for that matter :) Urban909 (talk) 13:18, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

School Photos

I'm still working on a close-up of Ball HS (see the comment I left on my talk page), but yesterday when I drove by, school had just let out, and I couldn't stop to take a photo.

I did upload a photo of the old Dominican HS to Wiki Commons. [3]. If you can think of anywhere it might fit in (former schools section?) by all means, use it. :-)

Gonna try to head by Ball in a bit and try again at getting a close-up photo. --Nsaum75 (talk) 19:42, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Mook (author)

A tag has been placed on Mook (author) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. – ThatWikiGuy (talk | life | I'm watching you!) 11:16, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know that Koromo-chan isn't the only work Mook has done, but it's the only one I can think of right now - there is an article on JA and I think it goes into some more detail... WhisperToMe (talk) 11:18, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, we could try translate from むっく. – ThatWikiGuy (talk | life | I'm watching you!) 11:21, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Skydiver

Skydiver (ride) has actually needed an article for sometime. Its a fine stub. What more context do you need? --Knulclunk (talk) 12:10, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jin-e and the X-Men

According to this translation of Jine's character profile, Watsuki does hint that he is based on Gambit. [[4]]. I'm not sure why that section isn't in the English version. Starone (talk) 19:40, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
