The Guild of Copy-Editors – September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive

The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invite you to participate in the September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 September at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 September at 23:59 (UTC). The goals for this drive are to eliminate 2008 from the queue and to reduce the backlog to fewer than 5,000 articles.

Sign-up has already begun at the September drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page.

Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style.

Awards and barnstars
A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants. Some are exclusive to GoCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.

Thank you; we look forward to meeting you on the drive!

More on the cycling shoe edit

Hi again,

Thanks for the reply. I would argue that since nearly every shoe cycling shoe company was listed, though I had thought of others that should have been added after you deleted the list, it was a resource to a reader rather than spam. Is it against the WP rules to have such a list?

Can you tell me how to fix the references area so that they show up correctly?

Thanks again, Bill QBill (talk) 22:33, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Still cycling shoes

Hi yet again,

Thanks for the explanation. I totally agree about Crank Brothers. They should certainly be a big part of MTB clipless pedals.

Did not know about a manufacturers listing. Can we put the link in here to the list of manufacturers or is it too generic?

I have no connection to D2 (the custom cycling shoe maker) but hardly anyone knows about custom shoes. What about a link to them?

I think you must have done something to tune up the references on the page. They look a lot cleaner.

Speedy deletion declined: Nhs Alliance

Hello Ukexpat. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Nhs Alliance, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: This was a reasonable tag, as the article does not assert significance or importance, but a Google search suggests that this is in fact probably notable. Consider PROD or AfD, but give some time for the article to be sourced and expanded. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 21:47, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

logo for Movie Review Intelligence (9/3/10)

Dear Ukexpat, I believe you helped add a logo in the infobox of the article about Movie Review Intelligence. I am the editor and publisher of that web site. Is it possible to change he logo to something a bit more legible? I have something that would work better, something similar to what I've seen in other articles. If so, how would I get it to you? I would prefer to email it as an attachment. Is that possible? Any help would be appreciated. Best regards, David A. Gross, Editor & Publisher, Movie Review Intelligence Dagrossla (talk) 23:44, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ukexpat, I started to send you an email with the logo attached, but I did not see a way to attach it. Can you tell me how? Thanks. David A. Gross Dagrossla (talk) 20:09, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You might like to know of a current AfD for Fastflow (computing) since you had previously cautioned its creator re COI issues concerning the article. I couldn't (re)discover where you did that, I saw it many months ago, perhaps on some RfC board? But here's his reply to you. I'm not canvassing, btw: You're the only user I've informed of this, and I have yet to decide re "keep" or "delete" myself, besides. I'll also mention that, as you'll see from the AfD page, there have been substantial sock/coi problems there, and either I or user Nuujinn will probably launch an SPI within the next day or two. I cannot always find the page where editors add the reason for the edit.

Help Required

Hi Ukexpat You'll see that's it's been a while but I'm ready to create my second article after over a year away. I can stll remember a lot of the detail when writing an article in the 'Wiki language' but the admin side of subpages etc is still a complete mystery. I've looked at the basic instructions for beginners again and as before I find them very tricky and over complicated for someone who's staring out. For instance creating a user subpage says something like go to the non existant page and type sav as----- redlink - doesn't make any sense. It's a bit like me saying to someone go down the road and walk down the non existant street! Anyway, I've written an article (which I'm sure can be improved) by setting it up in my contributions - the new one's called William France Snr (Upholsterer & Cabinet-Maker.

I'd like some help (as you can see) on launching it onto the live Wikipedia - with your ok. Last time you put my article on for me. Perhaps you can also give me some guidance on the subpage dilemma and help so I don't have to bother you quite so much, as I have another entry lined up to do next.

Re:Help Required

Hi Ukexpat I've actually managed to create a jackross sandbox and a User subpage for my next article - I think. Somehow I managed to get my brain to work and sussed it out. Sorry if I sounded frustrated! If you could check to see that I've done that properly and also my existing current creation which is in 'my contributions', I'd be grateful.

Self-published?

You added the template {{multiple issues|notability=September 2010|primarysources=September 2010|self-published=September 2010}} to Input/Output Control System; the references in the article are to vendor publications, not to mine. The primarysources makes sense, but I don't understand the basis for self-published. Please explain on Talk:Input/Output Control System. Thanks. Shmuel (Seymour J.) Ron Rector

Thanks for advising me to add to the list that I was concerned about. I was a little hesitant until I received your response seeing that I had never done it before. I feel much more confident now that I was bold. I even added another name that was missing from the list. Thanks again.

I am very new to Wiki. There is lots more to editing than I thought but it is fascinating. Thank you. Dave Atcathedral (talk) 09:37, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
