Yeh, beautiful. ShahidTalk2me 16:55, 1 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hehe! I hope they do. ShahidTalk2me 18:25, 2 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Can you help me rewrite it?
In 2010, TIME magazine selected her as one of the candidates for its list of the world's 100 most influential people. She was the only Indian actress nominated for the poll and eventually did not make it to the final list, ranked at 144
ShahidTalk2me 11:57, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
LOL I thought it did need some polishing (well and you are better at that than I am). ShahidTalk2me 12:07, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Blof I'm going to delete a lot of stuff from Zinta's article, like her appearing on talk shows like Koffee with Karan and whatever. This seems redundant to me as probably every celebrity appears on this show. ShahidTalk2me 12:27, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well I've started expanding Kal Ho Naa Ho!! :P
I have another goal to write a GA on an actress named Konkona.
LOL nice shirt! ShahidTalk2me 12:49, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
What do you think about a section called "Stage performances and television presenting"? Does it sound good? ShahidTalk2me 12:57, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'd say one guy who's very stylish is perhaps John Abraham. Every time you mention these Indian actors it I'm quite amazed... Seen any Indian movies of late? ShahidTalk2me 12:59, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
He doesn't have Bips anymore. They've split. ShahidTalk2me 13:08, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well I don't know about that. Speaking of Salman interviews and Preity, he is the first guest on her show which airs today. See the promo. She's so hot in this one. ShahidTalk2me 13:15, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No. She took a two-year break from movies but now is starting work on her next film which will be produced under her home production, PZNZ Media (the one which got deleted). ShahidTalk2me 13:21, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No big deal, after all at some point it will have to be recreated. So what do you say about a section called "Stage performances and television presenting"? ShahidTalk2me 13:29, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done. :)
So, have you seen any Indain movies of late? ShahidTalk2me 14:07, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I loved it! ShahidTalk2me 14:19, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Write me a new message, I believe it will be easier now. BTW, I recommmend you to watch such movies as Ishqiya, which is like a modern western!! ShahidTalk2me 14:45, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Graphic?! No way. Then what about Udaan (2010 film), one of the most acclaimed films of the last year? ShahidTalk2me 15:04, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe right!! So, I want you to watch some Indian film!!!! Have you seen the promo of Udaan? ShahidTalk2me 15:20, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think that she is good looking and fairly attractive, but she is not very hot in my eyes. ShahidTalk2me 18:07, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
yeh... she indeed looks like one. ShahidTalk2me 19:02, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
She looks botoxed. ShahidTalk2me 19:49, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well who cares how she looks if she's more talented than Streep, Dench, Mirren, MacLaine, and Blanchett. :) ShahidTalk2me 19:53, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well I think it is better than it used to be. ShahidTalk2me 12:35, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hey I know you're joking. :) I'm fine, what about you? ShahidTalk2me 14:09, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There are so many that I don't know what should be done first. I would love to see Dil Se (which you started so well) to become a GA. ShahidTalk2me 14:18, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. :) Right now I'm pretty upset over the state of actor articles. I tried to expand most of them but I often feel even the least do not do justice to them. I copyedited a bit the [[Jaya Bachchan article, but it's never mentioned what her position as an actor was. She was actually credited for being one of the actresses who pioneered natural acting in mainstream Hindi cinema (she was considered to be a better actor than her husband!) which was otherwise known as an industry of melodrama and songs. None of it is really mentioned in the article, and I don't know how to do it. Thank God for a Britannica, which proves it all. But it's just one article and there are many more. ShahidTalk2me 19:19, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it is. Thank you so much for your help. Many people will be surprised to know that most Hindi film articles were actually started by you. ShahidTalk2me 19:47, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's very impressive, though not genius. ShahidTalk2me 10:24, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! How are you? Any plans to visit India for the conference?-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 17:31, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I work mostly with articles on places in South India. I badly wanted to get Mannargudi and Nagapattinam to "B" but I had to stop midway as I could not find enough sources. Can you help me with these. Does this article I just created have the potential to be a Good Article?--Doug Coldwell talk 11:34, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly? Way off at the moment. Whole article should be written in prose and wikified.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:47, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'll try to improve it.
Since you are a very experienced editor, especially for DYK, can you help me? I am trying to submit a new DYK nomination for September 4 and not sure if I have done it right for the new procedure. Can you look at September 4 and see if I have done it right or if I need to correct something? --Doug Coldwell talk 12:58, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Haven't looked in at DYK for about amonth now, haven't a clue how they do things now sorry. Try asking Crisco or somebody.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:53, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Pesky Dutch film stubs!

Hi Dr B. Recall all those Dutch film starts you started/transwikied a while back? Well my path crosses them once again. With the addition of the Evelyn Brent filmography, I stumbled upon this article you originally started. Now a slight expansion, a ref, etc. Funny how these things come round full circle. Enjoy the last few days of the Great British Summer. Lugnuts (talk) 17:34, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

xyz (Fluss)

Hello Doctor. I have to admit I'm not very happy with you having dumped all the original German titles over here. The new page names should have read ...(river) at least. People have started moving those pages but you might want to help us getting rid of the Fluss redirects. Regards, De728631 (talk) 16:47, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What the hell do you think I am doing FLuss first for?? Precisely because of this. To go through afterwards and fix the links before resuming, It happened to be the most efficient way of starting them based on interwiki/translation programming links. Trust me, I know what I'm doing... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:47, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I was referring to the redirects that remain after the page moves. I've been placing {{db-r3}} speedy deletion tags on the Fluss redirects since we don't need them any longer. De728631 (talk) 17:42, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Again if you'd waited one minute I was going to request an admin to delete the (Fluss) pages as implausible redirects. I guess no need to ask now, so thankyou. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:43, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the pie. It will go nicely with the lunch I just finished. *chormp* --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:47, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe if you, you know, put more than one fucking sentence into the article or at least a SOURCE. It won't kill you to add a source from the get-go. I'm not gonna do all your heavy lifting. Seems all everyone wants to do on the wiki anymore is dump the work into someone else's lap. It's always somebody else's problem. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Otters want attention) 19:31, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but if anybody does the heavy lifting on wikipedia its me.. As long as at some point articles are expanded then my job is worthwhile. We are a collaborative project and if any Elvis fans search for the article they may expand it, that's the idea. Why should I be expected to write every entire article on wikipedia? It happens that when you start content which is missing enmasse I am unlikely to want to write full articles on 500 articles and am unlikely actually to want to create more than 5. If you think long term then what I do is ideal for a better coverage encyclopedia. There is no time limit and wikipedia is an on going project not a complete encyclopedia. Most songs by the King in my view meet notability requirements in their own right as they do with the Beatles. I have shown this with other prods people have thrown towards me. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:36, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Then WP:PROVEIT. Throw in a source when you start the article, or something. One sentence reeks of not even trying in my book. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Otters want attention) 19:41, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You misunderstand. Of course I'd love to write every article and start them as I have done now with this song article. And I often do so with content and slowly. But when there is a mass of content missing on any given topic I simply do not have the time to write them all. If I believe it is worth having articles on them in the long term I start them. Having the search in google books each time and make a full ref everytime completely affects the efficiency of the job that's why I often don't. If I have to research every one fully initially then chances are I'm unlikely going to want to start more than 5 out of 500. If you think long term it is better for wikipedia in my view to have them all in place so editors aside from myself can join in and build them up. Unlike most editors on here I don't think literally, I contemplate that we are a wiki and quick expansion can take place like this. I see any new stub in its finished potential. But if you'd like my to expand something I've created just ask me nicely and I almost always do so, providing it is not tens or hundreds thrown at me at once. Remember though that I generally only start content which could be expanded with reliable sources so any nano stub of mine you come across chances are there are sources ready to build it up if you simply google it.. This is why an extreme few articles of mine ever get deleted. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:46, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I just get frustrated when I see stuff sitting around for 5+ years gathering dust (see also 99.9% of country music articles) because everyone keeps expecting everyone else to do something. I may have to beat it over people's heads a lot, but at least screaming and throwing stuff actually causes people to spring into action. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Otters want attention) 20:21, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I apologise for what I said, but it does frustrate me sometimes that a lot of your AFD nominations or requested deletions could be expanded, sometimes considerably and to me at times it seems you don't check as if you did spot sources I think you could ask the article creator to expand it asap. I would only take an article to AFD if hits in google books and web are very minimal and it genuinely appears unencyclopedic. I agree with you about the collecting dust thing, I call it the stale article scenario which is possibly one of the biggest problems on wikipedia. I know every minute of our time on here should be spent on developing the already stale articles and that making them not suck is what wikipedia should be more about. But if I browse other wikipedia for instance I always see huge amounts of missing valuable content and I think first thing is to try to make the initial step towards getting them into English. My thinking behind the Elvis stubs was that Elvis fans must be abundant and ma have plenty of books about him which could reasonably be used to expand the articles. Maybe the hit and hope approach is ill advised but sometimes I feel desperate measures are needed if I see a vast bank of missing content. Sometimes though I see wikipedia for what it is right this moment and even I sometimes think it would be best to move every article below a GA into the workspace and only publish articles once they are properly written and reviewed. But my overal goal is for an encyclopedia full of GAs on any subject imaginable. This is why I spend a lot of time with GA writing and reviewing as that's my true goal. But the content missing is vast and we can't ignore it. It comes down to time and I try to balance quality and quantity edits as I literally can't do everything at once. But you'd find if you ask me nicely to expand anything I'll do so, I don't have to be hammered like some people on here! The biggest problem I'd say is that we are not attracting the very editors we need to build up our content and stop them building dust. We need to do something about that. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:31, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Dr. Blofeld

I just wanted to say thanks for introducing me into wikipedia on 28 February 2009. I think that you are one of the best editors around here, and you were definitely my ideal. I tryed to follow you footsteps the best I could. Goodbye, Kebeta (talk) 09:43, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings from Cooktown

Good to hear from you again! I have been noticing your amazing contributions to WP on such an immense range of arcane subjects - you have been producing so many great and needed articles, I have been filled with awe and admiration! I myself have only been doing minimal WP work since I returned from my trip - mostly because I am working as hard as I can to revise and update my book, Through the Jade Gate to Rome, which is due to be republished in Singapore and I have set myself a deadline to get it all off to them by the end of this month if possible. Then they want to publish my next two books as well - so I have a lot on my plate. Also, I am really finding it hard to do more than a few hours a day - the old back is gradually getting worse and I am bedridden much of the time. At least it is not a fatal condition! It has cheered me up no end to hear from you. I send you warmest greetings from sunny Queensland and hope you are having fun and adventures and are truly happy. Cheers, John Hill (talk) 10:51, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Russian districts

I've finished Stavropol Krai and started Zabaykalsky Krai. In the meanwhile, I've also prepared a template for Amur Oblast at Arkharinsky District for when you have time. Also, when using that template, could you please comment out inapplicable portions instead of deleting them? That'll make my job a little easier. Thanks!—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); September 9, 2011; 15:59 (UTC)

Question

Her Blof, I wanted to start an article about author and critic Ram Kamal Mukherjee, who has worked for Stardust, Mumbai Mirror and TOI and won awards for journalism. I wanted to ask - would this Google profile be considered reliable? He also wrote a book on Hema Malini - "Diva Unveiled", which is mentioned in such links as this, this, this and this. But not much can be done unless info regarding him was found, and I see it only on the above link. ShahidTalk2me 10:50, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll give this one up. Thank you. ShahidTalk2me 11:04, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Are you serious man?? Where did that come from you little genius? I'll kill you - AMAZING WORK!! ShahidTalk2me 13:02, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Haha!! Why should I if you're here? Okay, please start also Subhash K Jha, Aparjita Anil, and well, basically every other critic who doesn't have an article on WP!! Kidding LOL!! Thank you so much Blof, you are really the best ever on WP. You truly epitomise goodwill and cite an example to all of us. ShahidTalk2me 13:14, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeh someone does have to start somewhere. But well, I think one can just go around. I'll start Subhash K. Jha soon. He's been very prolific and wrote a popular book on Hindi cinema, although very controversial as well for trying to get Sonu Nigam hahaha (check Google and you'll know)!! ShahidTalk2me 13:46, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely, it's an excellent idea. ShahidTalk2me 14:20, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Interlanguage Wiki

I'm not really looking to translate. I was looking to find those article that are NOT linked to the English wiki, because in many cases for WP:Turtles an article exist but no interwiki connection is made, I found that out by manually working through categories nl:Categorie:Schildpad and pl:Kategoria:Żółwie but it is tedious and time consuing to check each article in the categories. Hi there. I've started on Kukadi River and just created Ghod River, which you might be interested in; also Inamgaon. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:22, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I miss him, too! I'm hoping he's on a wikibreak, enjoying some nice summer weather in Calif, but that he'll be back to editing when vacation is over. I'll be in SF for Litquake next month; maybe he'd enjoy that, too. I haven't submitted a recent article to dyk, so not sure how that works these days. I wouldn't be opposed to it. I created Whau Lunatic Asylum on Sep 7; if you want to copyedit it, etc., and then nom it, let's give it a go. Ok? --Rosiestep (talk) 17:44, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I know... 10 years... it's still a raw feeling. I was getting ready for work, Today Show on, when they showed the first building on fire and were trying to figure out what happened. When the plane hit the 2nd building, we knew something really bad was happening. I scurried in to work at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, knowing that the base was going on alert. Got on a plane three days later, the first day planes were allowed to fly again. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:52, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Like a prayer

Will read and report back - probably later today. Tim riley (talk) 11:21, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Blo, I raed your concern in the GA page. I have another alternate version of the article. Would you like me to paste it there? That's actually less detailed from the current version. — Legolas (talk2me) 11:35, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I will move the article as soon as I reach home. Its in my home laptop, while I'm outside. PS, what do you think of splitting off the music video section to a new article? — Legolas (talk2me) 11:58, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I can understand your concern. Going through Tony1's prose correction, many such erroneous and unnecessary notations appeared to me. Lemme show you the other version I have, then you and Tim can better judge I believe. — Legolas (talk2me) 12:06, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have been through the original version very carefully, correcting a few typos (though there is still one "its" that I think should be an "it's") and although I can see drafting points that might be a bar to FA, the prose seems to me definitely adequate for GA. Responding to Legolas's points above, I admit that I found the existing article very long for just one song, and would applaud splitting it up. It weighs in at a total of 117KB – and even discounting the lead and the notes it is miles above the MoS (Wikipedia:Article size) recommended limit for splitting (60KB plus). Tim riley (talk) 15:14, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, OK I'll request him to trim it down a bit, thanks Tim.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:19, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Tim. Blofeld, I will surely paste the other version. Lemme reach home. — Legolas (talk2me) 15:30, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Good. I shall not stick my oar in again unless invited, but will be available for a second opinion if wanted. In passing, Dr. B, can I sell you a bombed concert hall? I have the Queen's Hall up for GA – but by all means leave it to other reviewers if if doesn't appeal. Tim riley (talk) 15:52, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Imported articles script problems

Please change the script you use to import articles (in stub form) from other Wikipedias, so that a disambiguated pagename isn't repeated with the disambiguation in the lead and the infobox (and the defaultsort if applicable). An example is Dammbach (Elsava), but there are many others. Also, if possible, try to check that the disambiguation follows our MOS and normal English naming conventions and names. E.g. Möhlin (Rhein) should probably be Möhlin (Rhine). Finally, isn't it more customary to say "The X is a river" than "X is a river"? All these articles seem to start with the latter, while most manually created river articles start with the former... Fram (talk) 11:36, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Virtually all of the entries do follow our MOS, I'm not sure what you are referring to. Dammbach (Elsava) is like so because it is related to the Elsava. Given that there are multiple articles in the state with the name Dammbach, e,g Dammbach (Bühler), what else would you suggest? Ah I see they are in different states, maybe Dammbach (Bavaria) then? I'm not sure this is of essential importance, it is quite common to have the parent river in brackets if there are multiple names. All I know is that I ransack the categories on German wiki and start them and so the link match with minimal extra trouble. If anybody feels strongly that they ought ot be moved to different names, that can be done in due course.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:45, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article name is allright in this case, the article text should be changed to "The Dammbach is a river..." etcetera. The article name is incorrect in e.g. the Möhlin (Rhein) article. Fram (talk) 11:50, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about the Rhein, I think I actually caught most of them and moved to Rhine though, like I did with (Fluss) and Nordschwartzwald. You'll find that many of the entires could be moved to plain names without dab. The reason being though, they are obivously dabbed on German wiki with other potential articles under that name. The best thing would be to sort out the dab pages from German wiki, but that would take a lot of time..♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:52, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The disambiguation, apart from the occasional problem, is not the main issue, I think that the easier fix in your script would be the removal of the disambiguation part of the article name in the body of the article, and of course starting the descriptions with "The" instead of immediately with the article name.
