Request for image revision history deletion

Hello,

I was hoping you could please take a look at this image with the following template, and delete the unused image in page history.

I noticed from the date that it has been overlooked. Thank you Editor182 (talk) 00:48, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Kenny protection

Many thanks for your administration and protection of that BLP - Merry holiday to you. - Youreallycan (talk) 23:08, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome...but it wasn't just me! :) You may want to thank Salvio giuliano for their longer protection! (Unfortunately the protect button doesn't "edit conflict", so they wouldn't have seen my protection if they performed their protection right after mine.) Was there a consensus for this move? I saw nothing but "oppose" but move went through anyway? FWiW Bzuk (talk) 21:07, 27 December 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Hi Bzuk, I was not even aware of the discussion, but if there was nothing except opposition to a move, there isn't going to be any consensus to perform the move. Acalamari 22:04, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Heads up

Hi Acalamari. I have removed rollback rights from a user who was granted the tool by you, so I thought I'd drop you a note. Please see User talk:AroundTheGlobe#Rollback privileges removed. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 21:33, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there Fuhghettaboutit, thanks for the note about removing AroundTheGlobe's rollback rights; I do appreciate it, and more so than usual due to the length of time since that admin action. Best. Acalamari 23:14, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced

Acalamari! Happy New Year! ;)

I have a question, which noticeboard do I go to, regarding an editor and them adding unsourced content to an article? I have asked the editor, kindly, to add a source in with their edits - instead I get this on my talk page, and this in the article's edit summary, and they ignore my request. I undo their edit on the article; warn them. They revert my edit on their talk page, fine if they read them, but undo my edit on the article, claiming it's "blatant vandalism". Acalamari, is there a specific noticeboard, for this case, and or future ones I come accross? Thank you, -- MSTR (Happy New Year!) 13:04, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year to you too, MelbourneStar! :D {And congratulations for being the first to post to my talk page this year. ;)}
As far as I'm aware, there is no specific noticeboard for the addition of unsourced content. However, in cases like this, if you can't come to an agreement, WP:ANI may be the best place to make a report. Hope this helps. Acalamari 13:14, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There needs to be an Unsourced Content Noticeboard! :)
Anyway, The editor has added sources, so I won't be too hasty in making a report, barring their PA. But I shall use it for future references..
And an honor it is to be the first. All the best for 2012. Regards, -- MSTR (Happy New Year!) 13:20, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Danrivera

Edits [1] suggest another sock of Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/ItHysteria. Cheers, 76.248.147.199 (talk) 12:41, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 76.248.147.199! As I have not heard about this sockpuppeteer until now, I'm not certain about making a block here. While the recent rush of edits Danrivera has made to 30 Seconds to Mars-related articles could be a concern (as are the unsourced BLP edits I had to revert, and their talk page is not encouraging), most of the rest of the edits from the account appear to be towards other topics. The account also goes back over a year, but in all fairness, socks have lasted that long before. Would you mind shedding more light on the behavior of ItHysteria socks? Thanks. Acalamari 12:56, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've no deeper insight or experience into this, just connecting dots the from the recent IP edits [2], back to the 'IT' account. The Mars edits appear to involve a non-existent cat. Thanks, 76.248.147.199 (talk) 13:07, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you [3]; I was just thinking the same thing, but don't like to hop from one administrator to another. Much appreciated, 76.248.147.199 (talk) 13:45, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, I'm glad we were on the same page. :) Oh, and don't worry about admin-hopping if you're in need of help on something: it's not normally a problem unless the intent is to forum-shop (which was not the case here). Acalamari 13:53, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Restoring edits by anonymous Italian IPs on 30STM articles is a dead giveaway. Blocked.—Kww(talk) 13:50, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

PS: His other edits may have been on different articles, but they are in reference to 30STM members.—Kww(talk) 13:50, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Kww, I'll keep all of this in mind for the future. Thanks also to you 76.248.147.199 for making me aware of this to begin with. Acalamari 13:53, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page deletion

hey why did you delete my no dada no kkr page?/ there were reliable sources from many a leaing journals so why the deletion?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Virinchi523 (talkcontribs) 05:19, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

After reviewing the content, deleting the page was an error on my part, as it did not meet the criteria on speedy deletion, and especially not the one I specified. Sorry about this. To give you time to work on your article, I have restored it to User:Virinchi523/NO DADA NO KKR. Best. Acalamari 10:32, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
could you please assist me on which phrases do you find in-appropriate in my no dada no kkr page?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Virinchi523 (talkcontribs)
I didn't find any of it inappropriate: my deletion was made in error, so I restored the page. The person who deleted the page I restored for you is a user called Fastily; you may want to talk to them instead. Acalamari 10:29, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A request to block 98.192.45.21

IP adress 98.192.45.21 keeps undoing my work on the Amir Mansour article. I have spent a lot of time on the article and Im getting very fustrated about that he keeps deleting my stuff, over and over again. It is so anoying. And there is nothing wrong or false in about what Im writing. Please block the IP adress.

Im getting very angry and fustrated about my work being deleted.

David-golota (talk) 00:18, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

This looks like a content dispute. It has been several hours since either of you last edited the page, so it would be inappropriate to make any blocks or protect the page. I suggest starting a discussion on the talk page. Acalamari 11:07, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Acalamari, can you delete the old versions of the above file please? Thanks, — Legolas (talk2me) 03:52, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Acalamari 10:33, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for granting me rollback rights... that was four years ago *cough*cough* (sorry for not mentioning it sooner); I was/am at a major hiatus from Wikipedia- I must confess I'm wary of coming back; still afraid of its potentially addictive quality— I can't help but notice you're a wikijunkie ;)Rosa 08:38, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Rosameliamartinez! :D You're very welcome for rollback...even if I did grant you the right years ago! I hope you will choose to edit more; in all fairness, my recent high amount of activity is because I currently have a little more time to edit: however, I'd rather not edit at the activity rate I had years ago! ;) It was good to receive a message from you. Best. Acalamari 18:05, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

For undoing the vandalism/personal attacks on my talkpage and for blocking the user. I have absolutely no idea why they chose to attack me: unfortunately them creating that account just to attack me gave me no clue as to how we came across each other before. MSU Interview

Dear Acalamari,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 18:04, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I put my name down. Contact via e-mail is my choice. Acalamari 18:58, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As a respected administrator friend of mine, I hope to draw your attention to the edit dispute currently going on at List of tallest buildings in the world (history), in particular User talk:114.229.251.187's behaviour in this dispute. Deryck C. 22:10, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deryck, it looks like Ks0stm has already blocked the IP. Acalamari 23:04, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

User:D34throse Darklight

Could you block him the next time he puts his personal opinion piece onto Power Rangers Samurai (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), again? He put it on the article as soon as his block expired, today.—Ryulong (竜龙) 23:54, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm about to go offline for the night, but yes, next time he does it, he will be blocked. Acalamari 23:59, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please explain why you and Ryulong consider the following as personal opinion when I added it to Power Rangers Samurai, as anyone who watches the show can see it is a fact not a personal opininion.:
"Strangely enough for a group of samurai, they are all basically gaijin even their sensei/shogun is portrayed by a New Zealander, for none of them are full blooded Japan-born Japanese." — Preceding unsigned comment added by D34throse Darklight (talkcontribs) 13:46, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I only came to the article from your vandalism of Ryulong's user page, as it is not an article I watch. There are several reason why it is inappropriate: 1. "Strangely enough" is POV wording, and therefore not appropriate for an encyclopedia. 2. As far as I am aware, "gaijin" is an offensive term, and while Wikipedia is not censored, there is no need to include the term just for the sake of it. 3. There are no sources provided to say whether or not this issue with the show has even been highlighted someplace else other than your edit. 4. As the entire edit is unsourced, unless you can find something to back it up with it will get reverted again and you will end up being blocked. Acalamari 14:00, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
He's gone and bothered three completely uninvolved editors about this: Hobbes Goodyear, Xerographica, Ottawahitech. I don't think he's getting it, and I'm starting to see that there is a severe lack of competency.—Ryulong (竜龙) 20:07, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker)As both of you are on my watchlist I couldn't help but get involved in this. I complete second Ryulong's statement and I recommend him getting a mentor. If this user gets blocked again, getting a mentor should be a condition to get unblocked in my opinion.—cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 517,528,262) 20:28, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry, I am watching, and I saw him make those posts earlier. It's not very encouraging, but it is slightly better than him putting the content back in the article and ignoring what we were saying. Acalamari 20:48, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I wanna know why when I added the following to Power Rangers Samurai which any observer of said program can see for themselves to be fact, I WILL enlist the aid of ALL of wikipedia if i must. Besides what the heck does Power Rangers have to do with all the music articles you are responsible for anyway? You should rather edit those articles that deal with your area of expertise. I see you are awfully protective of Power Rangers, Is Saban employing you? I doubt it and if they were then you would be in a conflict of interest. : Strangely enough for a group of samurai, they are all basically gaijin even their sensei/shogun is portrayed by a New Zealander, for none of them are full blooded Japan-born Japanese. D34throse Darklight (talk) 23:21, 18 February 2012 (UTC) D34throse Darklight — Preceding unsigned comment added by D34throse Darklight (talkcontribs)

Any good faith I assumed of you up until now has been lost because of this comment, as it appears to be trolling: I explained above why the content was removed and how I came across the page. For the sake of not giving the appearance of any "admin abuse", I'll let another admin handle any future blocks of you, which I suspect will probably be soon now that you are spamming the same message over several talk pages. Acalamari 23:39, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
He's spammed at least 12 uninvolved editors about this. Let's just be rid of him.—Ryulong (竜龙) 00:38, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Support WP:AIV seems a bit dead right now. I have removed this user's spam from 4 uninvolved editors and 2 times from Ryulong's. Since I am not fully involved in this, I would not hesitate to block for at least a week. Unfortunately, I am not an admin.—cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 517,569,698) 00:42, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have to admit, I am surprised they aren't blocked by now. I actually do consider myself involved at this point, although I wasn't at the time of the original block; I will most likely be out at the time they normally start editing again, and if they do return and continue disrupting, take them to AN/I. Acalamari 10:25, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
They denied blocking this user. THis user seems to have calmed down now anyways. He tried to take it up with Jimbo Wales but didn't even make it that far.—cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 517,652,665) 13:16, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I saw that. If anything, I found it somewhat amusing. Acalamari 19:32, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Could you tell Lucia to disengage? I've been telling her why "Eureka Seven: AO" is the proper article title for two days now.—Ryulong (竜龙) 03:25, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I will if she comments again: looking at the discussion, there hasn't been any activity for several hours now, but I will help if there is another post. At any rate, since you have clearly explained your actions on the matter, I don't think there would be any problem with you removing any subsequent posts to that section if the discussion has gone from a reasonable question to badgering. Irn's rollback rights

COMPLAINT RE: USER:IRN, who was granted rollback rights by you.

Several years ago you overturned a decision denying User:Irn rollback rights, which had been made because Irn had just recently been blocked for engaging in an edit war. You granted it to him on the condition that he avoid misusing that privileged.

For several weeks now I have been discussing with Irn on his Talk page a warning which he issued to me for engaging in an edit war with user:Carwil. Repeatedly he has responded suggesting that I assume good faith as Wikipedia editors are expected to do and reiterated that I was warring.

Only yesterday, I realized upon closer examination that the undo of my most recent edit (which I had purposefully made in two steps - first undoing the prior undo by user:Carwil BUT THEN modifying my original edit in an effort to compromise with User:Carwil) had not been undone by user:Carwil. In fact, User:Carwil had apparently by then accepted the compromise edit I had made.

Astonishingly, the undo of my most recent edit had in fact been made by user:Irn himself, while at the very same time he cautioned me on my own talk page not to challenge what was in fact HIS edit not Carwil's, because I could end up being blocked as a user for engaging in an edit war. Incredibly user:Irn had picked up the flag that user:Carwil had already cast aside, taken over that alleged edit war by undoing my last edit, then attempted to protect his own undo by cautioning me that if I proceeded to undo HIS own undo of my edit, I would be subject to being blocked.

I believe user:Irn's actions warrant investigation and termination of his rollbacker privileges as he is obviously using that position at least in part to patrol for topics which he has a pesonal interest in protecting the text of.QuintBy (talk) 22:55, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To begin, since it was so long ago I checked on how I came to give Irn rollback rights. It seems I didn't overturn any decision other than my own, and it was discussed here. Secondly, can you please provide some diffs showing any misuse of the rollback feature by Irn? I did a brief scan of some of Irn's recent reverts and did not find anything concerning. Thanks. Acalamari 23:13, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I was not expecting so defensive a response and by no means was any criticism of you either implicit or intended.. Since it appeared to be you to whom user:Irn had made his/her commitment, I assumed that you would want to be the administrator who looked into whether or not user:Irn had lived up to his/her commitment. As it appears that you prefer not to I'll ask someone else. Please consider my request to you withdrawn, again with no criticism implied. — Preceding unsigned comment added by QuintBy (talkcontribs)
How was my response defensive or show any indication that I did not want to look into the matter? I merely clarified how I came to give Irn rollback rights (that seemed fair since you did mention it), and I requested diffs on any rollback misuse by Irn because I had not found any myself when I did take a look. That seemed fairly reasonable to me. Acalamari 10:30, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

table formatting

belated thanks for this. It's perfect. I don't use tables nearly enough, definitely need to work on remedial formatting for myself. Thanks again! StarM 02:06, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! :) Acalamari 10:30, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure if this is the right place but could you delete this odd page I made

Hi, can you delete my gallery page. I made it when I was really young (I was fascinated with religion from a young age). And some of the stuff there I would just put is odd. And it basically goes against WP:NOTSOCIALNETWORK, thank you -Angel David (talk) 03:10, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done. :) Acalamari 10:30, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination for cratship

User:MBisanz requested here for suggestions for users who could run for cratship as there is a shortfall of crats.Given the high standards in the RFB and even in RFA these days only a few can really be unto it. You set standards which we try to follow here in Wikipedia and most of us including me cannot even reach 50% of it .It appears we need atleast 2 to 3 crats .Would you be interested in running for cratship ?Please feel free to say no if you have other commitments and do not wish to run at this moment.Thank you Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 19:39, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pharaoh of the Wizards, thanks for recommending me on WT:RFA as someone who should run for RfB; sadly, I do have to decline for now, and I have given my rationale for doing so over there. I remember that you supported my RfB from years ago, and to know that I still have your support does mean a lot. :) Thanks again for suggesting me. Best. Acalamari 12:05, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You would receive my support too.—cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 521,720,789) 12:10, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Cyberpower678, I do appreciate that. :) Acalamari 12:14, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're right about that...that was a complete epic fail! :/ Sometimes I do go too fast and forget to preview. Thanks for mentioning this to me. Best. Acalamari 13:53, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Use of periods

Hey! I saw some of your edits where you erased periods at the end of sentences in images.[4][5] How are they "unnecessary periods"? Thanks you. ComputerJA (talk) 15:39, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ComputerJA! From what I understand about punctuation, periods aren't necessary in non-paragraph image captions, as they aren't full sentences; take for example "Juan N. Álvarez International Airport", it isn't a complete sentence nor is it a paragraph, so a period is not necessary. If, however, the caption formed a paragraph or a full sentence (for example, something like "Juan N. Álvarez International Airport has long been important for southern Mexico's tourist industry. It is also one of Mexico's largest aircraft facilities.") then it would need periods for proper punctuation. I hope that makes sense, but you are free to revert me if you think these were better in thier previous format. Best. Acalamari 15:54, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I see where you're coming from then. I simply asked because I was wondering if there was some rule here on Wikipedia about it. Your edits are cool with me. Thank you and take care! ComputerJA (talk) 22:28, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't found anything in the guidelines to say otherwise. :) I'm glad everything's good then, hope to see you around! :D Acalamari 22:51, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kyle

I think I ought to make you aware of the action I have taken at her User talk page. If you disagree, I'd like to here from you about it, by email if you prefer. If you should should wish to endorse, please feel free to do so. DGG ( talk ) 01:58, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DGG; no, I don't have an issue with your block, and if anything, I'm actually glad it came from you and I believe you were lenient in giving her only a six-month block rather than indefinite (not that I'm saying that's what you should have done, but I know some admins are more strict). I have warned Selina that she would end up getting blocked, and sadly I have to say that I am not surprised by your action. I am still willing to help her, but that task isn't made easier when my advice/help isn't always followed or acknowledged. Best. Acalamari 21:27, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
