The Order of Friendship (Russian: Орден Дружбы) is a state decoration of the Russian Federation established by presidential decree 442 of March 2, 1994.[1] Two latter decrees amended its award criteria, decree 19 of January 6, 1999[2] and decree 1099 of September 7, 2010[3]. It can trace its lineage to the Soviet Order of Friendship of Peoples.
Award Statute
The Order of Friendship is awarded to citizens of the Russian Federation: for special merit in strengthening friendship and cooperation between peoples; for fruitful work in the rapprochement and mutual enrichment of cultures, nations and ethnicities; for assistance in strengthening peace and friendly relations among nations; for outstanding work in the conservation, augmentation and promotion of cultural and historical heritage of Russia; for successful achievements and great labour, for broad charitable activities.[4]
The Order of Friendship can also be awarded to foreign nationals for outstanding achievements in the popularization of Russian culture and arts, as well as in promoting inter-state cultural exchanges with the Russian Federation.[4]
Award Description
The badge of the Order of Friendship is made of silver, enamelsed and is gilded. It is a pentagonal star created from diverging golden rays. On the obverse at the center of the star is a terrestrial globe, with details covered in colored enamels. The globe is surrounded by a wreath of olive branches covered with green enamel. On the reverse is the inscription "Мир и дружба" ("Peace and Friendship") and the number of the individual award. The distance between opposite tips of the star is 44 mm.[4]
The badge of the order is connected by a loop and a ring to a pentagonal mount with a ribbon of silk moiré of light blue with green stripes along its edges. The width of the ribbon is 24 mm, the width of the stripes is 6 mm.[4]
Presidential decree 1066 of December 16, 2011[5] raised the Order of Frienship in the Russian Federation order precedence to just below the Order of Alexander Nevsky.
Presidential decree 433 of April 12, 2012[6] placed the Order of Frienship in the Russian Federation order precedence to just below the Order of Honour.
