Revision as of 07:07, 19 June 2012

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 14:43 on 13 August 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors in the summary of today's or tomorrow's featured article

There are 19 dead links currently on the main page TFA. This is pathetic. Suggest it be pulled for something that doesn't suck. Isn't that what we keep Jenna Jameson in reserve for? (Looks; shit, it has 24;) Br'er Rabbit (talk) 03:04, 19 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Are you saying Jenna Jameson doesn't suck? Not so sure about that... -- tariqabjotu 04:42, 19 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Pun was intentional. It's her /job/ to “suck”. However, Amador Valley High School, just sucks in the ordinary, far-far-far from the best work wp has to offer sense. The 19 dead links don't begin to scratch the misery that is this article. Br'er Rabbit (talk) 04:53, 19 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Do we really need 2 definitions of the ill-defined, arbitrary line it is said to have crossed today? This is equivalent to Saudi Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud (pictured), a recently deceased member of the royal family of Saudi Arabia, dies in Geneva or Nik Wallenda walks on a tense wire across a cataract on the river connecting Lakes Erie and Ontario, to become the first person to successfully tightrope walk over Niagara Falls. Kevin McE (talk) 15:58, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"edge of the heliosphere" is more precisely but obscurely defined for astronomers, and "boundary of the Solar System" is for non-astronomers. So which group should we misinform? Art LaPella (talk) 20:14, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Nik Wallenda

Regarding "Nik Wallenda becomes the first person to successfully tightrope walk over Niagara Falls" - surely Charles Blondin did this more than a century ago, and dozens of people have done so since? 78.149.254.201 (talk) 15:03, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think the difference is that Blondin crossed the Niagara Gorge whereas Wallenda crossed over the Falls themselves.--ukexpat (talk) 15:16, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The article uses the words "directly over Niagara Falls". I recommend adding "directly" to the ITN blurb as well. All of the previous nine people crossed the Niagara Gorge, part of which is part of the (Canadian) city of Niagara Falls. http://www.niagaraparks.com/media/niagara-falls-stunting-history.html (Although I seem to be too late with the suggestion.) - Tenebris 07:07, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Errors in today's or tomorrow's On this day...

Tomorrow (June 19), 1846:

baseball isn't linked; it was linked to baseball before the day's last revision but that's perhaps a bit too generic. Given the topic and date could it be linked to origins of baseball?--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 01:08, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That blurb has been rotated out, but Origins of baseball needs more footnotes, and is thus ineligible. howcheng {chat} 16:08, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reporters: please first correct today's or tomorrow's regular version.

Any other problems

Please report any other problems on General discussion part of Talk: Main Page.
