Mahawar (Hindi or Rajasthani : महावर ) is originally caste of the Koli community originating from the Gujarat . However , Majority of Mahawars are of Koli ancestory . But some small number of Mahawars later mixed with Rajput people and this resulted in the formation of Mahawar Rajputs . They could only be found in only Ajmer city and nowhere else . They follow only Hinduism .

In much of North India (including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh), it is regarded as a family name. However, the name does not necessarily denote a unique paternal lineage.
