[Fellow of Royal Society] விருதை அளித்தது.  அதே சமயம் ராமானுஜன் இங்கிலாந்தில் டிரினிடி கல்லூரி ஃபெல்லோ [Fellow of Trinity College] என்னும் கௌரவத்தையும் பெற்றார்.  பிரிட்டனுடைய இவ்விரு பெரும் பட்டத்தையும் முதன்முதல் பெற்ற இந்தியர் இவர் ஒருவரே.  உலக மகாக் கணித மேதைகளான லியனார்டு யூளார் [Leonhard Euler], கார்ல் ஜெகொபி [Karl Jacobi], வரிசையில் இணையான தகுதி இடத்தைப் பெறுபவர், இந்திய ராமானுஜன்! அவர் கற்ற எளிய கல்வியின் தரத்தைப் பார்த்தால், கணித மேதை ராமானுஜத்தின் திறனைக் கண்டு எவரும் பிரமித்துபோய் விடுவார்! It originated in Bikaner and Ganganagar in northwest Rajasthan, India. The breed is usually dark red or tan but occasionally spotted individuals can be found. The Rathi originated from the Sahiwal and Tharparkar breeds. They should not be confused with the Rath breed which is a separate breed kept by the nomadic Rath cattle breeders. As the sun descended into the clear desert horizon, our jeeps sped silently............north of Bikaner city in Rajasthan towards the Pakistan border. the lanscape was stark with only a few trees, some camels and almost no human habitation. A cool winter wind made the drive extremely pleasant as we made our way to a tiny settlement about 40kms from the border. We were in search of the Rathi, a breed of cow which is supposedly a mix of the Sahiwal, the Red Sindhi, the Tharparkar and the Danni breeds of cattle and their keepers , the Raths, a tribe of Muslim cattle herders. ............we found a small settlement which consisted of a house and huge cattle shed.It was empty save for the women of the household. The women informed us the cows were still away grazing but were expected to be back soon.They asked us to wait and quietly disappeared. They were not comfortable talking to a group of urban strangers. Shortly afterwards in the twilight we heard the tinkling of cow bells and even as we turned we saw the herd returning walking with a dignity that any model would find it hard to match. This gorgeous herd of 40 or so catlle, more disciplined than school children happily wended their way to the shed. One of the women came and called out softly. A cow came up to her and she placed a vessel beneath it. Very soon we heard the sound of milk being drawn into a vessel for our tea.. There was no tethering of the animals, no coaxing or cajoling was required. After being milked the cow quietly joined the rest of the herd in the shed. Soon we could hear the cheerful sounds of animals consuming their dauily ration of special green fodder and concentrate. There was no doubt that these people and their herds were some of the best managed anywhere in the country. We turned our attention to the Rath who owned the herd. He knew bout the best fodder, the best methods of rearing., the best medicines and the best methods to be followed when the animals become sick. There was a discernible deep bond strengthened over centuries between this tribe and their herd, which we realised was not just about management skills , but also indicative of the ideal kind of relationship humans and animals ought to have. At about 864,000 miles (1.4 million kilometers) wide, it could hold 109 planet Earths across its surface. If the sun were a hollow ball, more than a million Earths could stuff inside it. But the sun isn't hollow. It's filled with scorching hot gases that account for more than 99.8 percent of the total mass in the solar system. How hot? The temperature is about 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit (5,500 degrees Celsius) on the surface and more than 28 million degrees Fahrenheit (15.5 million Celsius) at the core. Deep in the sun's core, nuclear fusion reactions convert hydrogen to helium, which generates energy. Particles of light called photons carry this energy through the sun's spherical shell, called the radiative zone, to the top layer of the solar interior, the convection zone. There, boiling motions of gases (like in a lava lamp) transfer the energy to the surface. This journey takes more than a million years. The sun's surface, or atmosphere, is divided into three regions: the photosphere, the chromosphere, and the solar corona. The photosphere is the visible surface of the sun and the lowest layer of the atmosphere. Just above the photosphere are the chromosphere and the corona, which also emit visible light but are only seen during a solar eclipse, when the moon passes between the Earth and sun. Solar Wind and Flares In addition to light, the sun radiates heat and a steady stream of charged particles known as the solar wind. The wind blows about 280 miles (450 kilometers) a second throughout the solar system. Every so often, a patch of particles will burst from the sun in a solar flare, which can disrupt satellite communications and knock out power on Earth. Flares usually stem from the activity of sunspots, cool regions of the photosphere related to a shifting magnetic field inside the sun. Like many energy sources, the sun is not forever. It is already about 4.5 billion years old and has used up nearly half of the hydrogen in its core. The sun will continue to burn through the hydrogen for another five billion years or so, and then helium will become its primary fuel. The sun will expand to about a hundred times its current size, swallowing Earth and other planets.
