::Though I worded it tentatively, she is clearly notable under WP:PROF, and also under WP:AUTHOR the review that notability was not adequately shown is simply incorrect, made in apparent ignorance of the WP:PROF standard. The reason I suggest the possibility of copypaste is not just that the material was indented as if copied from a publication which--unlike WP--indents paragraphs, but that it was written as a press release. Material about the routine facts of her career can be taken from an official CV, and normally is; it is among the excepts listed in the comment above. Material which makes any judgement of value needs a third party reliable source. Material such as who were the instructors in the department where she got the doctorate is inappropriate name dropping--we just mention the research advisor. The books should be listed, and verification provided by a reference to their listing in WorldCat, an excellent third party source. (we do not normally include articles from people in the humanities) Quotations from the reviews are normally not included in bios of academics, because they need to be representative, not cherry-picked. A review of any book normally includes some positive statement--and also some negative statements. It is normal for academics to include a reference to all published reviews, and to include reviews inacademic periodicals. All awards do need to be sourced to reliable third party sources. |

My article was not reviewed because of another article with the same name. May I simply edit the 1st article and put in my content? How much am I allowed to change? Thank you for advising me. :) SeoulSurvivor7815 (talk) 05:03, 7 August 2015 (UTC) SeoulSurvivor7815 (talk) 05:03, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- Hi SeoulSurvivor7815 - Yes, please work on the existing draft, you may merge as much of your draft into it as you wish and make any changes that you believe are necessary to improve it. If someone else disagrees with your edits you should discuss them on the Talk page of the draft. I have added a template at the top of the page so that you can submit it easily when you you believe it is ready. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:31, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, Dodger67. Thank you for clarifying how to proceed and for adding the template. I'll get right to work! SeoulSurvivor7815 (talk) 00:28, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
06:27:46, 7 August 2015 review of submission by Pressreleasesr
- Pressreleasesr (talk · contribs) (TB)
The reviewer of the article said that "The content of this submission includes material that does not meet Wikipedia's minimum standard for inline citations. Please cite your sources using footnotes. For instructions on how to do this, please see Referencing for beginners. Thank you." I'm not quite sure what to edit as I don't fully understand the reason the article was rejected. I looked up the references but I am still having a hard time understanding what exactly needs to be edited as I'm under the impression that I have cited my sources using footnotes. Do I need to delete some of the references or did I state something incorrectly in the article itself? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you so much in advance.
Pressreleasesr (talk) 06:27, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- @Pressreleasesr: The draft shows that you understand the technique for citing a source. Biographies of living persons require a high degree of inline citations, and I believe the reviewer is referring to the fact that the subject's education, modeling career, and the first half of the chef and TV personality section cite no sources.
- Note that media appearances may be good PR, but they are not the route to an encyclopedia article. Nor does it matter who the subject has cooked for. Notability doesn't rub off on him simply because of association with celebrities or notable organizations. What is needed are independent sources that directly discuss him and his work, such as reviews in reliable sources of his TV performances or cookbook (if and when published). Wikipedia has two good (though far from perfect) biographies of TV chefs: Nigella Lawson and Marcus Wareing. You may find it revealing to contrast the draft with those articles. Compare sources such as: [1], [2], and [3] to those cited in the draft. Worldbruce (talk) 01:41, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

- Krishanuthe13th (talk · contribs) (TB)
My article on this Indian company has been rejected thrice now. The rejection comment says that the article looks like an advertisement. Also the comment says that the references has to be from independent sources. Well, I have kept just facts in the article, things which has been reported in various well known Indian newspapers and publications. Can you please help me and point out to me if any lines or sections still looks like advertisements? Or is the problem the kind of language I used? Also all the references are from independent, well known Indian newspapers and publications, so can you tell me why the reviewer raised the comment that the references should be from independent sources? Krishanuthe13th (talk) 12:54, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- The text of the Draft does not currently look excessively promotional to me.
- Some of your references are strangely formatted. Was there really someone whose first name is "IIFL" and whose last name is "App" who writes for India Info Online? And another person whose first name is "TOI" and whose last name is "Adda App" who writes for the Times of India?
- Some of your references seem to be recycled press releases, for example the 29 April 2015 piece published by the Times of India. Others look better.
- The Draft is currently awaiting another review. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 14:07, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

Dear Help desk:
I am in the last stages of preparing a draft article, and want to add some images. I know very little about copyright law, so would appreciate your help in determining what to do with the following:
• Images from 1912-1920 newspapers. Example: The heading of a New York newspaper column, which includes a sketch of the columnist • Family photos from a private collection, which I have verbal permission to use. • A photo from a 1963 Kansas City Star story that got picked up by the Associate Press.
That should cover every image I intend to use, for now at least.
Thanks in advance--

- Cheshiredave (talk · contribs) (TB)
This article was rejected because the reviewer claimed that the article reads more like an advertisement for the person than an impartial article. If you look at the article you can see that the information about the subject is backed up by scores of sources including the NYT, LAT, CBS, ABC, and more. The fact is, this person is a major national figure in criminal rehabilitation, and the information about her is impartial and backed up with legitimate sources.
While I was indeed asked to create this page by the organization she heads, I did so with care for Wikipedia's standards, and I spent hours getting the style and formatting correct. To be summarily dismissed with what I feel is an invalid assessment of the impartiality is extremely frustrating. I would be fine if the reviewer had minor issues and changed them to his satisfaction, but to reject the whole thing like that is completely disrespectful of the time and energy I put in.
Thanks, Cheshire
Cheshiredave (talk) 07:08, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
- You have done well getting the style and formatting right. But almost all of your draft is blatantly promotional, telling the reader what a wonderful person you think she is. Instead, it should provide facts: when she was born (if this is known), what country she lives in, and what she actually does. This is not a minor issue; and even if it were, it is not the reviewer's responsibility to fix it. Maproom (talk) 08:06, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

Hello,
I recently created a the 'Education for Nature - Vietnam' Wikipedia page. There's now a notice on the page saying, "This article reads like a news release, or is otherwise written in an overly promotional tone. Please help by either rewriting this article from a neutral point of view or by moving this article to Wikinews. When appropriate, blatant advertising may be marked for speedy deletion with db-spam. (August 2015)"
I've cited a large number of independent sources to verify the facts of the article, but understand the objection about the tone being slightly too promotional. I'm happy to edit the article and attempt to fix this (I have no desire for Wikipedia to become a promotional tool!), but had a quick question first. If I discuss ENV's achievements and programs in a neutral tone, is this acceptable? Or does the problem relate to content too?
Thanks very much for your help.
Rick

FoCuSandLeArN reviewed my draft page and stated: This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability—see the guidelines on the notability of organizations and companies and the golden rule.
I have read the guidelines and read that: Wikipedia bases its decision about whether an organization is notable enough to justify a separate article on the verifiable evidence that the organization or product has attracted the notice of reliable sources unrelated to the organization or product My draft article had 14 references of which, 12 were external. Nine of these were, I felt, separate - but as a lot of the pages are 'member' only pages I guess it makes them unverifiable - is this the case?
If I managed to get Insurance Age and Insurance Times to make these articles reviewable would this make a significant difference?

I want to make several major changes to the existing article Le Peuple (Brussels). I made the changes in my sandbox and, when satisfactory, I submitted it for review. However, it seems that the system understood that I want to change the redirection page Le Peuple (which should actually become a disambiguation page). I guess I did something wrong. 21:09:29, 10 August 2015 review of submission by Lifegami
I'm writing today to know if it is possible for a wiki user to see a declined article submission?
I submitted an article about one month ago concerning the fine art photographer, Adam Marelli. Unfortunately, the article was declined. However, one month later the subject, Adam Marelli, was contacted on his public Facebook page by someone claiming to have seen his recently declined article submission. Said person was offering their services to help get a successful resubmission.
Has anything like this ever happened before? Is it possible said person soliciting services could have been a wiki editor that reviewed the original submission?
Is there something we can do to prevent this type of scenario from occurring again in the future - specifically on our resubmission of the article? Is there a way to report the person that claimed to see the declined worked and solicited their services?

Hello,
I'm writing today to inform you of an incident that occurred as a result of an article I submitted about 1 month ago concerning the artist/photographer, Adam Marelli. Unfortunately, the article was declined. However, one month later the subject, Adam Marelli, was contacted on his public Facebook page by someone by the name of Tamsin Kendra; she/he claimed to have seen Adam's recently declined article submission and preceded to offer their services to help secure a successful resubmission.
I recently submitted a follow up question pertaining to this case to the Teahouse, as my previous inquiry to this help desk page resulted in a separate thread that did not relate to this issue. In the teahouse, I was told to report this case as this is not the first time this type of scenario has occurred.
My goal for this note is twofold in action: 1. To find out if there are ways to prevent or at least reduce the chances of something like this happening again? Recommendations and suggestions are welcomed. 2. To report Tamsin Kendra for unethical (frowned upon) conduct in the Wikipedia community
We enjoy celebrating the Wikipedia community and want nothing more than to uphold its high standards of integrity.
Thank you in advance.

- I don't entirely understand your question but I have dealt with 2 aspects of the draft. You had a missing <ref> tag, so I have added it. As you pointed out, ref 1 & ref 4 referred to the same source. Ref 1 had defined a named reference, so I have reused that where you had ref 4. A further problem is that ref 1 was used in what you have regarded as a "| Nasdaq" parameter (which doesn't exist in the template), whereas the Nasdaq template with the relevant ticker is intended to be one option within the "|traded as" parameter, hence there is a strange display in the infobox. I'll leave you to sort out what you intended to use that reference for, and to correct it accordingly. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:00, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Hello I have been trying to create an article on my Father-in-law Dr JM Rollet and the stability factor named after him. This has been rejected a number of time on the references. The latest I think refers to having verifiable references for reviewers to check. The stability factor is referenced in many, many periodicals and scientific papers, some of which I've included in further reading and a few of which I have referenced in the piece, but apart from the abstracts, these articles have to be paid for - is this the reason why they have been rejected this latest time as invalid?
I could reference the same material on other wiki pages, microwave and electronic history sites, which will be open to all but when I did this previously I think I was rejected for relying too heavily on one source.
What should I do, find more open sources of material to reference?
Or is there some other problem?
This is my first stab at creating an article and I would appreciate any help. Dr Rollett is getting on and I promised I'd do this for him.
Thanks -
John McNally

I've submitted this article twice adjusting as necessary. I have asked for help from professionals in the music field who've written articles for other composers who are in similar professional placement as Jonathan Leshnoff. We are uncertain as to why the article was rejected (even after reading through the reviewer's notes). Please guide is the direction necessary to complete this article. Thank you.Majorpublishing (talk) 21:17, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
- @Majorpublishing: In the six paragraphs of prose that make up the body of the draft, only three sentences are supported by inline citations. (Furthermore, the ASO piece supports "Jewish mysticism", but doesn't say anything about "five Kabbalistic 'universes'" or about who commissioned the piece.) Although there is no numeric requirement such as one citation per sentence or one citation per paragraph, biographies of living persons do require a high standard of inline citations. In the reviewer's judgement, not all "material challenged or likely to be challenged" currently has an inline citation. I agree with that assessment.
- While you're making changes, turn the external links in the recordings section into references. Try to fix the red error messages in the references. Also, the Wikipedia convention is to list works within categories in chronological order, earliest to latest. None of these will prevent the draft from being approved. We can assist with these as well as with appropriate use of bold, italics, quotations marks, capitalization, etc., but inattention to Wikipedia's Manual of Style conveys an impression that you probably don't mean to make. Hi, after I put in some more (in my opinion relevant and neutral) sources and references, including the utilization by the NASA, my article about the Halcon Software was rejected again. The reason for this was stated as "Only one source seems to directly relate to the subject."
I am wondering if someone could review these sources/references again closely, as they clearly are just this software and its applications/functions. Sure, in the titles of the references, it is sometimes called "vision software" or "vision" or something similar, so you don't see "Halcon" in all the references' titles at the first glimpse. However it gets clear when reading the content.
I put a lot of time and effort in finding and reviewing these references, so please understand that I would like a more detailed feedback resp. a re-review of these.
If you think that the article should be improved in terms of naming "Halcon" in the reference titles as well, I will be happy to do that! Please let me know.
Thanks for your time and your response!

Hi, I am working on the wiki article Child Find of America. There was previously an article with this title that was removed that linked to the page on Gloria Yerkovich, its founder. The draft I submitted was denied because of lack of notability. I'm currently looking for more sources to add to the article and I was wondering if I could get some advice on where I should look since the Evening News articles don't seem to be enough. I found a video of the current executive director speaking at the White House for a conference on missing children in 2002: http://www.c-span.org/video/?172967-7/care-missing-children. Can I use this? Is the Evening News too small of a paper to contribute to the article's notability?

- @Cylons4life: Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL may bear fruit for you. Please see WP:PRIMARY or possibly WP:SELFPUB for the video. It might be acceptable. Fiddle Faddle 20:50, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

- Unnecessary. No-one is preventing you from writing this. However, you may not be the best person to write it because he is known to you personally. Fiddle Faddle 20:47, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

I have added a few other items but am still having trouble how to add to the existing reference list in order to support what I have included as new information.

How can I get my page to get approved? I read the comments and it said I need citing and sources. If I were to get the dates and information properly cited would it be approved?

I've added several more References/Citations (from "secondary reliable sources") to this listing in the hopes it may finally result in the article being approved. Mr. Sinnicks is certainly notable based on all the Wikipedia criteria (and existing examples of less notable musicians already included in Wikipedia). I'm not certain what else could possibly be added that would not be redundant at this point.
Unfortunately, while many of these additions were appended to the existing list on the edit screen, they appear to have formed their own list after it - and I seem unable to fix it.

Hello,
I have made the changes requested by the reviewer and resubmitted for review a few weeks ago but I haven't received a confirmation that the submission went through. When I click on Save Page it doesn't seem to do anything. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.

- The reason that your submission attempts were continually failing, and the reason why you couldn't see the last part of your draft, was that you had an unterminated <ref> tag. A missing / character makes a lot of difference. Hopefully this edit will have cured it. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:51, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

My first attempt at writing an article for Wikipedia has been declined and I feel I need some advice about what to do next. The article is ’Draft:John Robert Wildman’, about an early 19th century English portrait painter, and the reason for the draft being declined is “This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources.” I also received the following comments/suggestions: - “This draft relies on Primary sources a bit too much, parish registers and other civil records do not confirm notability, they only prove facts. Look for third party sources such as books or magazine articles.” Roger (Dodger67)(talk) 15:05, 9 August 2015 (UTC) and “Might pass notability, but is wholly improperly sourced.” Sulfurboy (talk) 05:41, 10 August 2015 (UTC). I have extracts from contemporary magazine articles – mostly reviews of John Robert Wildman’s paintings in Royal Academy exhibitions in ‘The Spectator’, ‘The Gentleman’s Magazine’ and ‘The Art-Union’, which praise JRW’s ability as an artist. I didn’t include them in the draft article because I thought this would be introducing too much detail. Might these be useful in demonstrating notability and, if so, how would it be best to introduce them into the article? The only reference to JRW that I have found in a book is curiously in Sheila Hancock’s 2009 autobiography, ‘Just Me’. In this she describes a painting by JRW of her great-great-great-grandmother which was used as publicity material for her appearance in the TV series ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ Hancock has tracked down the current owner of the painting (in Florida) and describes it in some detail, referring to it as “a wonderful picture”. Again, I thought this too detailed to appear in a Wikipedia article, but would it help demonstrate notability? Any advice you can give me would be much appreciated. This message is regarding the declined entry for Brenda Elaine Stevenson for not meeting the "notability" standards. She is a notable historian who has been recognized by numerous entities such as the Los Angeles Times, UCLA, the Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the Organization of American Historians, WomensEnews.org, BWHxG (Cross-Generational Dialogues in Black Women’s History), UniteWomen.org, KCRW radio (and its blog, Zocalo), CBSDC, KPCC Radio, Backstory Radio (sponsored by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities), C-SPAN, BBC, PR Newswire, and the National Humanities Center. Below you will find a list of over 50 websites that have featured her and/or her works and acheivements.
After reviewing this information, I ask that you please reconsider creating her entry on Wikipedia.
ResearchAssistant952 (talk) 16:24, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- The draft has comments from reviewers upon it. Have you interacted with them and determined why they have said what they do? DGG considers she may have notability, but is also concerned that this may be copied and pasted from elsewhere.
- The list you have presented, and that I have collapsed, shows a vast number of things coming form someone's newsroom. Generally that is PR material. We need something else. For a living person we have a high standard of referencing. Every substantive fact you assert, especially one that is susceptible to potential challenge, requires a citation with a reference that is about them, and is independent of them, and is in WP:RS, and is significant coverage. Please also see WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources and WP:SELFPUB which has clear limitations on self published sources. Fiddle Faddle 10:31, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
- Though I worded it tentatively, she is clearly notable under WP:PROF, and also under WP:AUTHOR the review that notability was not adequately shown is simply incorrect, made in apparent ignorance of the WP:PROF standard.
- There is something even more important. You apparently have a conflict of interest , probably a paid conflict of interest. This must be explicitly declared , according to our Terms of Use, particularly with respect to paid contributions without disclosure. DGG ( talk ) 16:29, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
