Matthew Pennycook is a British Labour Party politician. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Greenwich & Woolwich since 2015.[1]

Early life

Pennycook was raised in South London. He studied at the London School of Economics[2] and subsequently won a scholarship to attend Oxford University.[2] He joined the Labour Party at the age of 19.[2]

While still studying, he volunteered with the Child Poverty Action Group.[2]

Political career

Pennycook was a Labour Councillor for Greenwich West from 2010-2015.[3]

He has written multiple articles for The Guardian about the need for a living wage in Britain.[4]

In November 2013, he was selected as the Labour Party's candidate for Greenwich and Woolwich,[5] replacing Nick Raynsford, who was retiring.
