Manvitha P, one source is simply not enough. To pass Notability there must be multiple independent reliable sources that contain significant coverage about the subject. Look for more magazine or news articles that discuss the subject. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 07:19, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This page is for questions about the Articles for creation process. Please consider asking this question at the Wikipedia:Reference desk. They specialize in knowledge questions and will try to answer any question in the universe (except how to use Wikipedia, since that is what the Help Desk is for). Just follow the link, select the relevant section, and ask away. You could always try searching Wikipedia for an article related to the topic you want to know more about. I hope this helps.

What notability and verification are you looking for? I want to provide evidence, but don't know specific information you want. We are going on our second trip to Haiti to install and provide technical support for s solar powered water treatment plant. Our website is www.viasolarusa.com Via Solar was the first company to utilize mobile solar technology in a commercially.

Hi, thanks for inquiring here. To make out notability, Wikipedia articles about corporations need a variety of reliable, independent sources; further, the coverage provided has to be in-depth, or more than just a passing mention. That seems to be the problem with the current referencing—the BBC article doesn't mention Via Solar at all, and the New Jersey Hills article only discusses Via Solar once, briefly. Have there been articles or other coverage of a more substantial nature? If so, that is the type of referencing required. Primary sources like a company's own website may be used sparingly, but they don't help establish notability, so the draft will need to rely on "outside" sources.
I'll also note that you should familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's conflict-of-interest rules. Thanks, /wia /tlk 17:03, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A declining editor’s suggestions for improvement of the draft for the Mathers Museum of World Cultures stub include that I provide “clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia.”

The Mathers Museum of World Cultures is mentioned in the following pages of this encyclopedia:

Additionally, the MMWC is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.

MateoTimateo (talk) 19:41, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@MateoTimateo: Hi, thanks for stopping by the Help Desk. If an organization like the museum is to be included in Wikipedia, it must be shown to be notable. In practice, this means finding reliable, independent sources that offer significant, in-depth coverage of the subject. Wikipedia articles themselves are not considered a reliable source for the purpose of referencing, and so mere mention of a subject in another Wikipedia article doesn't demonstrate notability.
I think one problem with the current referencing is that it draws exclusively from sources that are too closely related to the subject. (This is similar to what Onel5969 mentioned in his review.) The ISSUU magazine is from the museum itself, the "Treasures of the Mathers Museum" piece is written by Indiana University, which operates the museum, and the Interconnections piece was authored by the museum's director. In short, those are primary sources that aren't really independent of the subject. Can you find more independent coverage of the museum, perhaps in newspaper articles or other magazines? Keep in mind that regional or national coverage is preferable to local coverage, as it is a better demonstrator of notability.
Let us know if you have further questions. Happy editing! /wia /tlk 03:27, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have edited my article several times, and got comments from different reviewers regarding the references. I am a bit confused with what is considered as "reliable source", and what is inline citation. My sources are published and verifiable. Not everyone gets the "New York Time" coverage, which does not mean that sources from other regional newspapers are unreliable. Please provide me examples of "reliable source" and "unreliable source". I am willing to scan my published sources to you for verification. Thank you for the help.LW1588 (talk) 05:19, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am somewhat flummoxed about how to do all the references properly. The bot told me there was a problem but didn't highlight where the problem was, so I don't know what to fix. Someone else told me to look at the citation page, but I didn't know what I needed to take from that page. HELP!Juliaerickson (talk) 15:28, 17 November 2015 (UTC)Julie Erickson Juliaerickson (talk) 15:28, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Juliaerickson - I formatted the first two references to give you examples of proper formatting. You can use them as templates, as well as using the other types of citations listed on the WP:CIT. For example, for books, and print magazines and newspapers, always use page numbers, authors, etc. When a bot leaves an error message like that, note where the error message occurs in the article, then go to edit mode and look in that location. In this instance you had left off a </ref> tag (there was a </a> there instead). Hope this helps. Also, feel free to ask questions on my talk page. 16:03:04, 17 November 2015 review of submission by Pete716

I would like to know how an annual technology conference by one of the largest companies in the world is not notable. It was attended by over 20,000 people (cited in article) and the previous conference that this is replacing (TechEd) had it's own wikipedia page. If you do a search on "Microsoft Ignite" in google news you will see hundreds of articles.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Pete716 (talkcontribs)

@Pete716: at Wikipedia, "notable" means that the specific subject of the potential article has been covered in-depth by independent sources in reliable publications. The draft article fails to demonstrate that the subject meets that requirement. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:50, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And even if there is coverage, the community consensus may be that the subject is best covered in the main article about the sponsor rather than spinning out another article. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 19:00, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am requesting assistance to help get my article on Rexnord approved. I am told I need more sources, although I cite 17 independent sources in the bottom references. Please let me know what I can do to get this article up to Wikipedia's standards. I would like this to become a quality and unbiased article. Thank you.

Emily.white89 (talk) 17:22, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Emily.white89: while you have a lot of footnotes, you don't seem to have included any that demonstrate significant coverage by reliably published sources not related to the subject. Press releases do not count. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:45, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to check the status of the requested listing. Cumberland Academy of Georgia does not currently appear and I prepared and submitted a request for listing. I haven't been able to find it in pending or declined or any of the categories so perhaps I did something incorrectly. Thanks for any help you can provide. Terri Brooks, Director of Admissions, Cumberland Academy of Georgia,[redacted] 96.91.141.29 (talk) 18:38, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

On a quick glance it does not appear to meet the basic requirements for a stand alone article. It is unlikely to be accepted for main space. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:43, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
On a more close view, it has been declined for not meeting other criteria as well. As the banner at the top of the page states, it is inappropriately advertorial in nature. Also, there was a message left on your user talk page User talk:96.91.141.29 explaining the same. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:55, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

04:26:40, 18 November 2015 review of submission by Amrita Sulabh Barnwal

04:26:40, 18 November 2015 review of submission by Amrita Sulabh Barnwal Why my article was rejected

Hi Amrita Sulabh Barnwal - The article was rejected because the references provided do not meet the notability requirements of Wikipedia. This was real easy to see in this case, since you provided zero references. To show notability, you'll need 2-3 in-depth articles about the company from independent, reliable sources. Usually that means magazines, books or newspapers. In addition to that, your article is highly promotional in tone, so it will need to be re-written, so as to get rid of it looking like a sales brochure for the company. Finally, in addition to the citations showing notability, you'll need other references as well, for example, to show that they actually won the awards stated in the article. You can find out how to properly use citations at WP:CITE, and how to properly format those citations at WP:CIT. Hope this helps. Onel5969 TT me 20:18, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

10:33:26, 18 November 2015 review of submission by 50.53.86.73

This is the page I'm setting up, I can't tell if you can see the draft or not. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:The_Alliance_for_Independent_Authors_(ALLI)

It got rejected. The organization has a media page with a lot of links, http://allianceindependentauthors.org/alli-in-the-news/

Seems plenty more notable than other pages, but was rejected anyway. Would love help!

Hi there. I think the subject probably could be established as notable, but you need much better sourcing. Virtually all your citations are to press releases (or press release based material) or to the self-published websites of the Alliance's various members. I'd suggest having a look for material in Google Books. There is some available there. And use press articles from mainstream newspapers rather than trade publications, but look for ones which devote at least a paragraph specifically to this organization rather than a passing mention in the context of a brief quote from its founder on the general subject of independent publishing. Unfortunately Wikipedia has literally thousands of articles on non-notable businesses and organizations, most of them created by people closely connected to or hired by the company/organization. The goal is to prevent more of them being created and to gradually examine and delete existing ones where appropriate. Wikipedia:Other stuff exists has more on that. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 11:12, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also pinging User:Teosocrates, who appears to be the author of the draft. Voceditenore (talk) 11:14, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

10:38:34, 19 November 2015 review of submission by Pracbrown

My article has been reviewed, but rejected on the basis of reading more like an advertisement. I have tried to make it as generic as possible, but did want to highlight the original product - perhaps similar to the 'cola' article that mentions Coke. Should I take out all reference to 'Elveden' in the Instant Hedging article, where it is mentioned twice. Many thanks for your assistance, from a first time contributor!

@Pracbrown: Hello, thanks for dropping by! I agree that there is a promotional tone to the piece. In particular, I think the paragraph about Elveden's instant hedge should probably be excised. If the article is about instant hedges in general, then this section seems out of place, as it is devoted to only one instant hedge "brand", promoting them through words like "unusual", references to "demand increas[ing]", and repeated use of the brand's name.
I'd also consider getting rid of the "Why an Instant Hedge" section. This kind of pros-and-cons list looks good on a company website, but it doesn't quite mesh with Wikipedia's encyclopedic point of view requirements, and I'm not sure whether it adds much value to the article, especially given its lack of sources. There's also a referencing issue in the "importance of hedgerows" section, as there are some claims made here that aren't backed up by sources, like the suggestion that instant hedges can help reduce the greenhouse effect. While this is likely true on a trivial level, I'm not sure it's worth mentioning, and either way it will need some sort of citation to back it up.
Work on tightening up the draft, or consider discussing on the Hedge talk page whether portions of this content might be better suited for inclusion in the Hedge article. Other reviewers may want to chime in with their suggestions too. /wia /tlk 14:36, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Miamicd11: Hi, the article has been accepted into the mainspace and can be viewed by anyone from the public. There's no requirement for an article to be in a certain class in order for it to be seen. If you search "West End (Florida) in the Wikipedia search bar, the article should appear.
As for search engines, Wikipedia doesn't control where its articles appear in search engine rankings. That's done by algorithms run by the search engine companies themselves. However, if you search "west end (florida) inurl:wikipedia" on Google, you will see the article appear, so it is certainly out there. Thanks! /wia /tlk 21:30, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We are a relatively new organisation. We have received publicity in the rAF News (MoD publication). We have appeared on BBC TV as part of the annual Cenotaph remembrance parade. We do not have any other proof other than our webpage. How am I supposed to prove that we exist! Please help, I am a simple person, with no experience of Wikipedia and find the whole process beyond my comprehension. (I am not stupid, but I find your interpretation of the english language totally unfathomable)) Please just answer me in uncomplicated english!

Please, first, confirm that you have visited the draft and read my comment there. Then come back to this section and ask about the elements you do not yet understand. It is far better to ask specific questions than to just ask a very wide question. Fiddle Faddle 10:48, 20 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please tell me in simple english exactly what you want me to tell you. Simply telling me that I have to tell you what makes my organisation NOTABLE means nothing to me. Please state an example of what I need to tell you because this is not clear. Just telling me I have more work to do does not help at all.
