WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 02:56, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request for comment on Biographies of living people

Hello Wikiproject! Currently there is a discussion which will decide whether wikipedia will delete 49,000 articles about a living person without references, here:

Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people

Since biographies of living people covers so many topics, many wikiproject topics will be effected.

The two opposing positions which have the most support is:

  1. supports the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, User:Jehochman
  2. opposes the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, except in limited circumstances, User:Collect

Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that by default, editor's comments are hidden. Simply press edit next to the section to add your comment.

Please keep in mind that at this point, it seems that editors support deleting unreferenced BLP articles if they are not sourced, so your project may want to source these articles as soon as possible. See the next, message, which may help.

a bot to gather possible members of the projecet?

See Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/New articles - they have a bot to gather a list of possible project members. I suspect the false positives would be few as mention of the Baha'i Faith would almost certainly make it interesting to the project. So perhaps this bot could be adapted.... Unreferenced living people articles bot

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Bahá'í Faith/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Bahá'í Faith/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 01:31, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

list of article ideas....

Independent investigation of truth
Obedience to government and non-involvement in partisan politics
Elimination of extremes of wealth and poverty

I'd also like to suggest some biographies:

Howard Colby Ives
Hippolyte Dreyfus-Barney
Jane Elizabeth Whyte
Corinne True
Howard MacNutt
Dorothy Beecher Baker
Clara Dunn
Mildred Mottahedeh

And if you look through most of the existing biographies and schools and countries articles we are needing pictures, however difficult it is to submit pictures (you personally took and justify using templates and survive challenges to make sure you took the pictures personally etc. Smkolins (talk) 16:01, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Resources I know that Scarecrow Press' Historical Dictionary (ISBN 0810850966) has a good start for virtually any topic and might direct someone to the appropriate texts. —Justin (koavf)TCM17:04, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A new article has been created on Unitarian Bahaism and has been nominated for deletion. I am making a request for expert assistance. - Stillwaterising (talk) 11:41, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nice. Several of the most active members of this project have already been involved and relatively denigrated for it. Never the less we have a long history of working hard to make articles better and write more articles that meet notability. Smkolins (talk) 18:36, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

another idea....

well perhaps two - on the talk pages of Abrahamic Religions and Bahá'í literature, not to mention scattered among the articles where the religion is mentioned, there are various sources detailed to greater or lesser degrees. So one idea is to create something of an annotated bibliography article. Another is to plumb such sources for relevant information on their various subjects articles. I was thinking of copying such references here but I'm not sure of the appropriate mechanism as talk pages generally age out and get archived sooner or later. Just a thought I had.Smkolins (talk) 10:04, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Replacement of the word "Bahá'ís" in Wikipedia Categories

There is currently a proposal to change the category: Category:Bahá'ís to Category:Bahá'í people, which is part of the batch of changes being proposed in this discussion. If successful, it will probably be followed by moves to replace the word "Bahá'ís" through the Wikipedia categories by the words "Bahá'í people". Davshul (talk) 20:21, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

expanding Abdu'l-Baha's journeys to the West...

Hi. Following some encouragement and interest I've been looking at expanding from `Abdu'l-Bahá#Journeys_to_the_West into a full article. It's all at User:Smkolins/Sandbox and I'm wondering a couple things. I've tried various schemes on basic structure. So far I like the present one the best. What do you think? Also should I post as is, as is with flags for expanding sections mostly towards the bottom, or keep plugging away until the content is reasonably even and then post? The main structural problem is various levels of citation - some are ?? that need to be found but mostly there are unstructured Hardvard-like entries barely formatted. Frankly Harvard style is something I've done only alittle of. If I keep going through the development alone it could easily be a couple months before it's "ready" to post. On the other hand one ref I'm waiting for and have been in communication with the Library of Congress about is a reference that might come online in June so a couple months is in order for at least one detail (I have a secondary ref but I think the direct newspaper story should prove most worthwhile.) WikiProject cleanup listing

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 20:55, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed annual "meeting" of religious projects

I have proposed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Religion#Annual meeting? the creation of a page for the central discussion of religion based topics and for discussion of possible interreligious collaboration and cooperation. Any and all input is welcome. John Carter (talk) 19:10, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bahá'í News

I'd just like to give Kudos and draw attention to User:Clifflandis for creating the article Bahá'í News, which was listed by Article Alerts as its "most popular missing journal", i.e., the most cited journal lacking a Wikipedia article. If anyone can help improve this new article, now's the time! --dragfyre_ʞןɐʇc 14:57, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

on the subject of journals I'll mention that the dead links to Journal of the Bahá'í Community of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (generally at http://www.bahaijournal.org.uk/) should be in line to be fixed someday - I'm told that there is an intention to re-post the content online. I'll take a look at the Baha'i News article.... getting back in the Wikipedia spirit of things a bit. Smkolins (talk) 13:23, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
while I'm at it I also contacted Mona Foundation about their urls changing and they are looking at it and want to make it work better. Smkolins (talk) 17:23, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
perhaps Bahá'í literature#Periodicals should be developed.... Smkolins (talk) 13:52, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've cleaned up Bahá'í News a little, and I see a few things that need work:

  • What is the relationship between Bahá'í News and American Baha'i? If the latter is a successor publication, how was it first conceived, and why did it begin publishing so long (20 years!) before the former stopped? The related reference is at a registration-only link, and I'm outside of the USA so I don't think I can see it.
  • Is there a better overview somewhere of the content of Bahá'í News, besides just that most of it was about international news, pioneering and domestic developments? It'd be nice to see information about specific sections, i.e.: fund goals/progress, letters from the NSA, the Universal House of Justice, or Shoghi Effendi, etc. It'd also be interesting to note whether any major communications were first published in Bahá'í News, in the same way that many of 'Abdu'l-Bahá's tablets were first published in Star of the West.

On a related note, Bahá'í World News Service needs creating too. --dragfyre_ʞןɐʇc 18:39, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

true. I've managed to retrieve more about Baha'i Journal UK (now we just need systematic naming and to use the new archive at BLO for all it is worth.) --Smkolins (talk) 10:43, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

new suggestion

Hi all. Please see: Talk:Jesus#Announcing_some_intentions_prior_to_editing_to_avoid_edit_warring. I've added a suggested revision, and invite comment. IBE (talk) 10:55, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

While I've significantly extended the content it could probably use another eye for writing quality. Smkolins (talk) 15:05, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiWomen's History Month

Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:Bahá'í Faith will have interest in putting on events related to women's roles in the Bahá'í Faith. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to seeing events take place! SarahStierch (talk) 19:10, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Baha'i Faith in St. Lucia - West Indies

I am striving to create a wiki page "The Baha'i Faith in St. Lucia - West Indies". I am having some troubles and would like some assistance. I have the beginnings of the content based upon"The Baha'i Faith in Barbados" I hit save and it does not appear in searches nor on my watch-list. Does that take time? I also can't bring it up to continue to edit. What do I do? [details removed] Keith R. Bloodworth — Preceding unsigned comment added by Keith R. Dizzy Gillespie spoken article form ....

It systematically mis-pronounces the name of the religion. Any chance someone could poke at the process of making spoken articles to show people how the primary words of the religions are said? Smkolins (talk) 12:07, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

French Wikipedia - Proposed merging for Qiblih with Qibla

Dear Friends, I need some help to explain the differences between the Bahá'ís Qiblih and the Islamic Qibla in French here and here, because my French is not good enough for that. I know, the words Qibla and Qiblih has the same meaning, but that's imho no reason to merge two different articles. Thanks in advance and best regards, -- JCIV (talk) 18:00, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well I thought there had been a difference in Arabic spelling, but I was wrong: both articles have the same Arabic spelling, and I have to conclude that the only difference is common Islamic transliteration vs. standardized Baha'i transliteration. Ergo, I suggest they be merged. Peter Deer (talk) 04:28, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed MOS for Religion

There is now a proposed general Manual of Style for Religion and other articles relating to ethoses or belief systems at Wikipedia:WikiProject Religion/Manual of style. Any input would be welcome. I personally believe at least one of the reasons why many articles in this field have been as contentious as they have been is because of lack of such guidelines, and would very much welcome any input from others to help come up with some generally acceptable solutions to some of these problems. Better rendering of bahai symbols

Hi. I was wondering if anyone could help me. I'm trying to find a better rendering of the Greatest Name at Greatest_Name#The_Greatest_Name? --Steinninn 14:56, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Jesus work group

Jesus work group, a work group of WikiProject Christianity, is inactive. I've boldly made it a joint work group of WikiProjects Christianity, Islam, and Bahá'í Faith in an attempt to revive it. Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.
