A tag has been placed on File:Dalian Maritime University.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Dalian Maritime University (2).jpeg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 23:45, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Dalian skyline nightview.png

Thanks for uploading File:Dalian skyline nightview.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 23:45, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Chinese

Hi there. Please don't change the pronunciation of Chinese as you did at Fuzhou. Per the Chinese manual of style, Wikipedia uses pinyin as the default romanisation and by extension its pronunciation. Thanks.  Philg88 talk 19:26, 25 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Allow me to reiterate what Philg88 (talk · contribs) said: please stop adding IPA from Merriam-Webster Online to China-related articles. In the first place, I'm not sure Merriam-Webster by itself is a reliable source for pronunciation even in English, as it skews toward North American pronunciations (which I use) and omits British/Commonwealth pronunciation (which Philg uses, I believe). Secondly, if we are going to go to the trouble of adding IPA to articles' leads (which is probably a good idea), we ought to the extra few seconds and use {{IPAc-cmn}} to at least give it accurately.  White Whirlwind  咨  05:23, 23 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Is there a reason you uploaded a different version of the logo for Central South University?

Also, please upload logos at no larger than 400 px wide or high. Thanks, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 04:42, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry for uploading a replacing logo for Central South University but I just wanted to upload one with transparent background.
I will upload logos with smaller size next time.
-JesseW900 (talk) 08:19, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No need to be sorry. You are working to help improve the project. Let's let the old image die, and all hail the new one. In future, you can go to the old image page and click "upload newer version". After it is uploaded, you can template the image page with {{subst:orfurrev}} (documentation). That will prompt an admin to come and zap the old image.
Happy editing, my friend. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:25, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Thank you! -JesseW900 (talk) 09:35, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Question: if the new image I were to upload is of a different format from the old one, say .png vs .jpg, then I have to start a new image page instead of uploading a newer version at the old page, right? -JesseW900 (talk) 12:21, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you have to start a new image page. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:54, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Thanks. -JesseW900 (talk) 02:13, 23 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not low resolution

Per this (and my advice above), the images you are uploading, an example being File:Donghua University logo.png (1,514 × 1,423), are very high resolution and quality. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 20:48, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I see. Do you know if there's way I can convert images of high resolution to one with low resolution without losing quality? For example, this image File:Nanjing University Logo.svg is of low resolution but high quality. How did it mange to do that? -JesseW900 (talk) 04:44, 28 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I do not know much about svgs. I also do not understand how quality and resolution are different. To me, high resolution means, sharp, high quality. Anyway, each time you add a new logo to an article and remove the old one, the old one gets automatically nominated for deletion. If your high res png gets deleted for being too high res, that means there is not image at all, and we have to go and find a new one. I suggest you stop until things are sorted out at this thread I started regarding image sizes/resolutions/qualities. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 05:24, 28 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) You cannot have a low resolution SVG, it is technically impossible. That's why for non-free use logos JPG and PNG are better since they can have some bits zapped to lower the resolution. Rule of thumb = don't use SVG for non-free images. If absolutely necessary, convert to JPG or PNG and lower the resolution using Photoshop or similar.  Philg88 talk 05:38, 28 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Philg88. JesseW900, please understand that the logos are to help visitors identify the university and nothing more. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 06:12, 28 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
One way I think is doable is that first I upload a high resolution image, then tag it with {{non-free reduce}} and let the Theo's Little Bot to reduce the size of the image automatically for me. I found through this way the resulting image quality (smoothness) is often better than the ones I found on the web that are initially small sized. -JesseW900 (talk) 06:23, 28 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free logos

Hi JesseW900. Just thought I should let you know that the current standard size for non-free logos is about 400x400 pixels or less. If you upload a larger image, please add a {{non-free reduce}} template at the time you do the upload, and a bot will come along and reduce it for you. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Edit summary

I have noticed that you often edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Thanks! OPPO vs Oppo

Your move contradicts MOS:TM, and shouldn't have been performed. We do not capitalize names like that just because it is "official". ViperSnake151  Talk  15:03, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Hongqi logo lettering.png

Thanks for uploading File:Hongqi logo lettering.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 16:06, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for February 5

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited People's Liberation Army Rocket Force, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page DF-1 (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Jiaozi article

Thank you for adding the pronunciation link to the Jiaozi article! Can you suggest where I might find out the most common Western spellings of this word from a century ago?-71.174.188.32 (talk) 20:18, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
