NPOV must reflect consequence

suggest an alternative phrasing rather then just removing it, describing a military invasion and occupation as a 'humanitarian intervention' is far from neutral. You can't just say lets invade and occupy a country and not also remark on the consequences. liberal imperialism is well known tactic that has been employed for centuries, she has consistently advocated this for years in Sudan and elsewhere which i've given you several links for. look at her debate with Jeremy Scahill she's no saint. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lostexpectation (talkcontribs) 19:42, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ms Power's comments to The Scotsman and subsequent resignation

The recent facts of Ms. Power's embarrassing statements, which resulted in her resignation from the position of foreign policy advisor to Obama should stand within the article for the time being. Ms. Powers is a brilliant person, who has done much good work. She will continue to much good work, but the current news is a part of her biography. With distance and time, it will be easier to return to a normal bio and remove some of the very recent events and in the context of her life's work, I'm sure it will be a small and insignificant event. But newsworthy items, of recent events, that are sourced, accurate, and involve a significant event belong within the context of a biography of a living person. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.200.36.10 (talk) 21:33, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Does the "disavowed by Obama" need to be in the first paragraph? While relevant in a detailed discussion of the incident, it seems out of place in the intro paragraph Charles Oppermann (talk) 23:32, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Organization

This article needs a major rewrite. I don't care about how much her remarks on Hillary Clinton stand out, but half of it is utterly redundant and circuitous. Suggestions for improvement welcomed. Cjs2111 (talk) 05:10, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's a bit tough because there are some minor editing skirmishes happening right now (wouldn't call them 'edit wars' yet exactly), so a lot of stuff is being added and removed repeatedly by a number of editors. It might be worth it to just sit tight for a few days until some of the IP editors slink back into the woodwork, then it'll be easier to work constructively. BTW not impugning all IP editors on this article. Anchoress · Weigh Anchor · Catacomb 05:21, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Waterford: an impressive little place

Just listening to Louise Richardson on the radio and she is also from Waterford (population: 107,000) and a professor of political science in Harvard. And there was I thinking all culchies drove tractors. Not bad at all. 86.42.71.111 (talk) 15:00, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NSC report

There has been a report [1] that she has been named to the National Security Council, but the report also says there is no official announcement yet. Wait for something official about the "senior director for multilateral affairs at the National Security Council" position (the Jamie Metzl article seems to use a different title). -- SEWilco (talk) 03:04, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV: monster remarks

I deleted the following: "It must be acknowledged that her choice of the word "monster" was both emotionally loaded and difficult to diffuse. It is a widespread belief that her close association with President Obama indicates that her 'Monstergate' remark was shared by the then-presidential candidate."

as well as: "It is astonishing that his supporters continued to promote that his campaign was clean when Ms Power is still one of his close team members[1]"

as both paragraphs are completely unacceptable under a NPOV view. Also, the "widespread belief" is unsourced, most likely because THERE IS NO SOURCE. 84.129.151.242 (talk) 11:21, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ireland

we need to know if she is from Northern Ireland(protestant part) or Republic of Irelnd catholic part). this detail is really important for a better understanding of her political views. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.231.38.170 (talk) 14:34, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alternatively, you could judge her by her statements and actions rather than by the label of one religious sect or the other given to her when too young to voice an opinion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.246.81.101 (talk) 19:11, 30 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Better still, we can discuss what independent reliable sources have to say and adding appropriately verifiable material to the article. - SummerPhD (talk) 18:22, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Kennedy School of Goverment

I believe that Power is no longer affiliated with the Carr Center at the Kennedy School of Government @ Harvard. At the least, she is no longer teaching courses there. i.m.o. somebody should look into this and consider removing this information from the article - it's quite dated at this point. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.127.200.152 (talk) 21:48, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

From what I gather - a reply from her Harvard email address - she taking leave from the Carr School until April 2011 So she is affiliated still Moloch09 (talk) 13:55, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ref's down

References #1 & 2 are down, does anyone have any alternate links? 99.231.211.103 (talk) 16:29, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ellie Light

Much speculation on the internet that Samantha Power is behind the "Ellie Light" letters to the editor that appeared throughout the country in various newspapers. Can anyone confirm? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.245.99.9 (talk) 18:12, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Birthplace

Please could her birthplace be verified. This is because I have noticed that Samantha Power (actress), who is a completely different person, is also shown as born in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford, RoI. --Redrose64 (talk) 12:40, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • I wondered about this too. I note that several publications have referred to Samantha Power, the foreign policy adviser, as born in Dublin: The Age, New York Daily News, New York Times, Belfast News Letter, Evening Herald. Note that the latter two sources were published in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland respectively, where writers, editors, and readers would be expected to know the difference between Dublin and Dungarvan. I can't help but think that her biographical information might have gotten confused with the actress of the same name. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 06:06, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • That seems like plenty of sourcing, so I made the change, choosing the Dublin paper as ref. Davemck (talk) 18:32, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • The New York Times today reported that she was born in England, but later moved to Ireland, from which she emigrated to Pittsburgh. [2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.216.77.100 (talk) 13:31, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Citizenship

Given her apparent Irish nationality, where is a source that supplies information about her stated U.S. citizenship? She certainly appears to have abandoned her homeland completely and now even holds a most sensitive position in the U.S. government. When and how did she acquire U.S. citizenship? It doesn't appear either of her parents were American citizens, so, if she was naturalized, where are the sources that confirm and detail the event?

Conservatives see her as a dangerous Progressive

A new article this morning [2] "Obama will also name Samantha Power, a human rights expert and former White House adviser, to replace Rice as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations." To quote: "The Face of the Benghazi Talking Points Controversy Is Receiving a Promotion — and You Won’t Believe Her Replacement" NY Times: “Defiant gesture to Republicans” Politico: Samantha Power to become new U.N. ambassador (Cass Sunstein’s wife) Flashback: Blaze one of first major outlets to connect Power to Obama’s recent foreign policy Beck: Probably the most dangerous women in America …Video Hannity in 2009: One of the top 10 most dangerous people in the administration

We already have her "Views" in this Wikipedia article, and we probably don't need a "Controversy" section, IMHO, Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 15:22, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Seriously, who really cares what the rabid right says about her? That's not notable. They'd complain about Jesus if Obama nominated him. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia - not a gossip rag for regurgitating the talking points of political hacks. 2602:306:BD61:E0F0:D068:4284:825F:BA4E (talk) 04:56, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • However, this article's only indication that Power is not perfect are a few links to critics on the left and the Hilary Clinton kerfuffle. This article would be much improved by comments from foreign observers and scholars on Power's policies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.5.58.16 (talk) 17:40, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Update Source of Power's Confirmation?

Hello, could someone please update the citation note of Power's confirmation? The first linked source in the article was for when she was nominated, but now that she was confirmed I think we need to update the source. Of course, I could be wrong. I'd do it myself but I'm not exactly sure how to and I don't want to mess anything up. Thanks! Zarash6767 (talk) 08:53, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Disenjenous ? The article crosses it's testimony. Saying some fear she doesn't like jews due to a statement years ago. Who appointed her? a jew. Is that a jew she's married to? appears so.

The fact of being foregin born (and maybe raised) and NOT knowing if her parents were or are part of the Irish government, and knowing she's often been a broad and is a news person. The media as government?

But really I wrote to say. Yes loyalty to U.S.A. concerns is goign to be questioned. It would be lovely to see effort on law and human rights co-ordinate with protecting U.S.A. interests rather than generic human rights.

Moreso. The U.N. is bloated that's why I write. It's like the size (or bigger) of a country and the spending upon it is horrific.

I've read many U.N. documents and can say: it's become wasteful spending. Reduce the size of U.N. That would help the poor to have money so they can work, the poor the U.N. keep writing more and more remote documents about. The poor the U.N. attack abroad to settle matters that would not be matters if government union spending were not a problem, maybe. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.209.222.174 (talk) 04:49, 6 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

lack of information / clarity in bio timeline

I found Power's bio timeline hard to follow. Dates are missing perhaps intentionally. For example:

Under Life and Career -- "Raised in Ireland until she was nine, Power lived in Castleknock and was schooled in .... Dublin until her parents emigrated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1979... She attended Lakeside High School in Atlanta, where she was a member of the cross country team and the basketball team. She subsequently graduated from Yale University. From 1993 to 1996, she worked as a journalist, covering the Yugoslav Wars for U.S. News & World Report, The Boston Globe, The Economist, and The New Republic. When she returned to the United States, she attended Harvard Law School, receiving her J.D. in 1999.

Stated dates are shown marked with carats (the side box gives her birth year). Parentheses are my estimates of missing information in the bio. This seems to indicated that Power completed Harvard Law School and received her J.D. in record short time. Also "when she returned to the United States, she attended Harvard law school." It is not clear where she was before she returned. Granted she worked as a journalist covering the Yugoslav wars... but she was not on the ground the entire time period.. where was her base, the article would suggest it was not in the U.S., perhaps it was in a Grqnd Hyatt, Mandarin or Shangri-La hotel in the region?

Born 1970

Emigrated to us at nine yrs 1979

(Graduated high school 18 yrs 1988)

(Matriculated Yale undergrad around 1992)

1993-1996 journalist covering the Yugoslav wars

(Harvard law school 1996-1999)

J.D. Harvard law school 1999 Danleywolfe (talk) 16:05, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Views?

Seems like the balance in views is off. The third paragraph comprises almost 2/3 of the section and after a couple of sections giving background - remarks made suggesting America will need to act to stop a future Israeli acts of genocide, the remainder of the paragraph is about pro-Israeli "opponents" defending her against charges of racism. Reads as defence to the point of conceding guilt. 118.208.76.11 (talk) 05:39, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
