I'm sure Seattleites, have know limitations of attracting local groups with our software, limited to watchlist notices. In 2016, WM-NYC [[phab:T152297|filed a task]] to allow [[m:CentralNotice|CentralNotice]] (the banners on top of article pages) to target readers in local areas. Quick poll on January meeting

Let's gather info on who wants to do it when and try to set a date by December 15, 2004. -- Jmabel | Talk 00:29, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)

  • Saturday, January 15, Seattle
    • OK - Jmabel | Talk 00:29, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)
    • 90% make-able - Jwrosenzweig 15:07, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
    • Obviously I blew it and missed the last one, so I don't count for much, but this would work for me, as would January 22. RadicalSubversiv E 09:46, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)
    • Will try to make whatever date is chosen. Right now I'm not aware of any conflicts, but my schedule in January is still a bit fluid. The 22nd is definitely not possible for me, however. --Michael Snow 19:13, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Saturday, January 29, Seattle
    • OK - Jmabel | Talk 00:29, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)
    • Somewhat better than OK - Jwrosenzweig 15:07, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
    • I might be able to be make this one. I'll be out of town for the earlier date. - Decumanus 00:55, 2004 Dec 9 (UTC)
Won't be able to make either date, since I'll be on the road for all of January. Will look forward to the next one later in the Spring possibly. Also I'd be interested in organizing a Portland one in Spring 2005 as well.-- Decumanus 22:02, 2004 Dec 13 (UTC)
    • I'll have left town. RadicalSubversiv E 09:46, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)
    • Would probably prefer this over the 15th, but no strong preference either way right now. --Michael Snow 19:13, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)

So far we have 3.9 (!) for the 15th and 3 for the 29th. Not much of a turnout, either way. This is not looking encouraging, though I'd gladly get together with 2.9 of my colleagues... -- Jmabel | Talk 05:37, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)

Messages left

I've dropped a message about the jan 15 meetup on the user talk page of everyone I know is even vaguely active and lives in striking distance. I'm sure a lot of others have never listed their locations, so I'm unaware they live near here... -- Jmabel | Talk 07:13, Dec 23, 2004 (UTC)

I'm sorry I was unable to respond and then to attend. My father-in-law died on the 12th of Dec, and things are only just now starting to return to something resembeling normal. Count me in for the next meetup. Elde 05:41, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)

some notes

I assume we'll refactor this comment somewhere into Wikipedia:Meetup/Seattle/Jan 15, 2004 or something like that. I just wanted to note that I've started Wikipedia:Museum projects, per discussion at the meetup. I will contribute more to it later. My first project will probably be a collaboration with a museum volunteer I know in Lincoln County, Oregon. Great to see you all again! DanKeshet 04:28, Jan 16, 2005 (UTC)

missed meetup & seattle at wikimania

1) sorry I missed (both!) Seattle meetups (buried in grad school etc) but I am looking forward to going to the next one, if it happens/hasn't already happened?

2) is anyone else going to wikimania? I am fortuitously in europe anyway, so am going, & hopefully presenting. Brassratgirl 07:26, 25 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There haven't been any new meetups to my knowledge, but maybe we can start thinking about another one. Jmabel is busy for a few weeks, when he gets back might be a good time to plan it. That would put us in late June or into July. If that's before you depart for Europe, we could get one in before you head for Wikimania. I'm not likely to attend (in Europe, I mean), so it would be great to send you as our local "representative". --Michael Snow 04:39, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Brassratgirl, when are you back from Europe? I'll be reasonably available again after June 12. -- Jmabel | Talk 17:14, May 30, 2005 (UTC)
Ah, I've been travelling & missed this note.. am already in Europe & will be there until after Wikimania... I would be happy to be Seattle's "local rep", although I don't know any of you! Anyway, if there is a meetup after I get back (aug 16) I'd be happy to report. Here is the paper I'm presenting: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Wikimania05/Paper-PA1 cheers -- Brassratgirl 8 July 2005 14:04 (UTC)

Our neighbors to the north

Just a note for anyone watching this page who might be interested. The Vancouver Wikipedians are apparently having a meeting on September 24, with the idea of planning to possibly host Wikimania next year. For more information see this page. I would encourage people to support this effort if you can. --Michael Snow 23:51, 16 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Is it time for another meetup?

I became an editor not long after the last meetup. Are we ready to plan another one? MKoltnow 19:33, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why not? Add me to the Meetup Cascadia lists, please? —Micahbrwn (talk) 14:50, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2010 meeting

Hi. Is there going to be a 2010 meeting in Washington, Oregon or Idaho? I haven't gone to one before but I think it would be interesting. Thanks. NeoJustin (Talk page) 16:48, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I guess my question was answered. NeoJustin (Talk page) 19:37, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Takes America

Date? Time? Location? List of targets? --Dennis Bratland (talk) 01:28, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of the articles in Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Seattle, Washington need proper location or geocoding data added to that they will appear on the Google map. I'm not totally sure how you do it. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 20:03, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've gone ahead and suggested a date and time:
  • Date and start time:
  • Starting point: Oddfellows Cafe & Bar in Oddfellows Hall.
8AM might seem kind of early, but I actually think getting out there at sunrise when the light is good is best; that's probably what I'll do. This doesn't rule out an after party; possibly somewhere north of the Ship Canal for those who missed the morning thing, either because it was too early for them, or they had to work, or they don't get downtown much. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 21:11, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Probably less an issue for me than for most, since I'm taking photos like this all the time, but is there any reason to think a weekday will get more people than a weekend? - Jmabel | Talk 02:40, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I can get just about any day to work for me. What about Saturday the 15th? I think the larger issue might be finding an organizer who can create a list with code numbers for the contest, then collect all the photos and score them. I've been reading the various pages on Wikipedia Takes America and the Loves Monuments project and whatnot and the mechanics of it is rather involved. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 22:54, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Same here, but I think the premise is that the contest will drive participation. I've never been involved in one before so I don't really know. If it didn't look so time-intensive and complicated, I'd go ahead and be the organizer. Anyway, if it does turn out that nobody is willing run the contest, we should still do a meetup and take as many photos as we can.

I've removed the people and bands from the requested photos category and come up with this list. I'm checking each article for coordinates now so they will show up on the map. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 23:58, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Interest in talking about Wikidata?

Hey :)

Denny will likely be in Seattle in the last week of April. If there is interest in talking about Wikidata on your side please let me know and we can try to arrange something together. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 13:59, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly a different time?

This is head-on with MOHAI's monthly Seattle History pub trivia night at the Wurst Place in South Lake Union. - Jmabel | Talk 00:53, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Anybody want to move it to second Tuesday of the month? That works for me. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 01:59, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'd certainly be more likely to make that in May or July, though I will miss June in any case. - Jmabel | Talk 16:46, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I updated the outreach information to indicate that the second Wednesday of any given month is the day. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:04, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. Because it says second Tuesday. Well, I'm here (on Tuesday). I guess if no one else is I can read here as well as anywhere. - Jmabel | Talk 01:58, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Pride

Are there any Seattle residents interested in participating in Wiki Loves Pride 2014, a multi-national effort to improve coverage of LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects? Perhaps an edit-a-thon or a photography project? Please visit the project page for details or let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! --Another Believer (Talk) 17:37, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings, Seattle Wikinic

Hi All! I'm a native Washingtonian (from Mount Vernon) that currently does Wiki stuff in New York and with Wikimedia NYC. I will be in Seattle for the July Wikinic and am looking forward to meeting some Seattle Wikipedians. I hope to talk to you more about Seattle Wikipedia activities at the meetup as I am very interested in the proposed Wikimedia Cascadia Usergroup! If you want to sign on as a founding member of Wikimedia Cascadia (or whatever we will call it!) go to meta:Talk:Cascadia Wikimedians#Sign on to be a Founding Member of Cascadia Wikimedians and contribute to the discussion. Thanks! OR drohowa (talk) 18:55, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Weekly co-editing

Hey,

This is an idea that I have been kicking around for a while. I wanted to talk about last meetup, but I had to go early and did not get a chance to raise the issue.

Would any one be interested in a weekly co-editing session? Not an outreach project, just a day and time where people could stop by to edit, chat, relax and have community.

I would mostly be taking responsibility for this. I would make the commitment to be somewhere at a certain time every week with a Wikipedia sign (and if no one else shows up, that is just how I normally edit Wikipedia then...). But, to set the initial day and time I would like to find at least one other person who could make it.

I work remotely and thus have lots of free time, and I live in cap hill: so, something like 1:00-3:00pm Wednesday at the main branch library would be the perfect thing for me. But I imagine not a lot of people could make that, so something like Saturday 1:00-3:00pm in the U District would be acceptable for me as well. 66.235.3.210 (talk) 21:41, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

66.235.3.210, are you on the Wikimedia-Cascadia mailing list?

There's an edit-a-thon for Saturday, 10/25, that was announced on there.

Photos from last meetup

Hi all! I've finally uploaded the rest of the photos (besides the group photo on the meetup page) from the last meetup. You can see them on Flickr. I'll upload them to Commons in about a week (without identifying anyone, except Mako since he's got his own category and all). In the meantime, if anyone would like me to remove a portrait of them from the set, just let me know.--ragesoss (talk) 05:04, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Glenn Fleishman article deleted

The article on Glenn Fleishman was deleted. He's blogging and tweeting about it -- insisting he doesn't care, but still has a lot of time to complain. There's a gamergate hatchet job conspiracy theory. I think *maybe* there's enough to resurrect the article, if you're so inclined. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 03:59, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Community Wishlist Survey 2019

I'm sure Seattleites, have know limitations of attracting local groups with our software, limited to watchlist notices. In 2016, WM-NYC filed a task to allow CentralNotice (the banners on top of article pages) to target readers in local areas. Efforts have stalled and to spur progress it would be great if you could support it in the Community Wishlist Survey. Voting ends November 30.

An example, CentralNotices were ran for Wikipedia's 10th birthday. WM-NYC had to cut pre-registration early, unable to accommodate the shear number of people signing up. Subsequent birthdays had at most 1/10 the RSVPs. — Dispenser 11:49, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
