Indian population, inconsistent numbers?

Early in the article, it says there were 80,000 Indians living in Uganda in the early 1970s ("40 years ago"), but later it says 580,000 were expelled by Idi Amin as part of his "Africanization" (i.e. ethnic cleansing) of the country, from 1972 onwards. Is one or the other of these numbers wrong? At first, I thought maybe there were still 80,000 Indians left in Uganda *after* the 580,000 were expelled, but it is also mentioned that only 15,000 remained. So there seems to be something way off with the numbers here. 82.164.157.239 (talk) 16:26, 7 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Many of the 'Indians' inside Uganda were of British nationality rather than being Indian nationals. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.149.173.52 (talk) 13:20, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ugandan language

Swahili & English are listed under "Uganda" as official languages.

However under "Swahili" 3 countries are listed as having Swahili as their official language, though Uganda is not included. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheKuch (talkcontribs) 04:32, 26 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"overpopulation problem"

Confused as to what it means to say that Uganda has an "overpopulation problem". Other countries have higher populations than Uganda does — do they have overpopulation problems? CircleAdrian (talk) 06:22, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Is over population also on Chinese page? Waligorahim (talk) 15:45, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Whether the China page mentions overpopulation is not relevant to this page. If other countries also have overpopulation problems, then it can indeed me mentioned on those pages. Wikipedia is not a competition between countries. However, looking at the source for the claim of overpopulation in the text, it is unclear that the source claims such and that the source itself is a reliable source. Also, as you suggest, I agree that it is unclear what 'overpopulation problem' means. Is it that there is not enough food for the population, that the infrastructure cannot handle expected population sizes in the future, or something else? I have cut the sentence from the text and put it below:

The country has a significant overpopulation problem.[1][dubiousdiscuss]

Poverty (HIV in Uganda)

As a result, young women tend to have older and more sexually experienced partners and this puts women at a disproportionate risk of getting affected by HIV, accounting for about 57 per cent of all adults living with HIV in Uganda.[124] → The figure in this sentence is gravely wrong. From the original reference, it is 5.7 per cent, not 57 per cent.

The characterization of Idi Amin’s military dictatorship as “far right” is nonsense given that it was supported by E. Germany and USSR...decidedly not “far right” nations. Confusing / incomplete expression in Buganda crisis (1962–1966) section

The following line in the "Buganda crisis (1962–1966)" section is confusing: "The British trained Captain – the Kabaka with about 120 armed men kept Idi Amin at bay for twelve hours." What is this trying to say about the British-trained Captain? It appears to have omitted some key word or phrase. This references "Kasozi (1994). The social origins of violence in Uganda, 1964–1985. p. 85." Could someone familiar with that source please clarify or correct this passage? Thanks. LUGANDA IS THE UGANDA NATIONAL LANGUAGE

Before one gets into the relevance of any language's usage argument, one must first understand that a National Language is not necessarily an Official Language, based on the political/constitutional provisions on both.

Besides English, which is used as an Official language to at least 90% in Uganda because of the country's Colonialist History and the effects of conformity, Luganda is merely ignored by the political sector based on racial/ethnicity biasness to its dominance. Otherwise, Luganda is spoken nationwide from border to border at least 85%.

The Swahili language (which is majorly a military communication tool that is being politicised to favour and front the regional campaign of having an East African Community); is spoken by less than 5% while the remaining 10% is a mixture of local dialects for people who can neither speak English nor Luganda or even the Swahili.

[1] Kimlanni (talk) 08:23, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

With all due respect, Luanda has never been legally recognized as a national language of Uganda. Mores so,that figure you stated (85% from border to border) is very wrong and unproven. Ps: Travelling within the country helps a lot. Joe Muru (talk) 22:29, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Change the language if Uganda from Yuganda to Luganda

There are many languages used in Uganda but the main languages are Luganda, English and Swahili. On this page it Luganda is misspelled as Yuganda. 72.235.76.165 (talk) 08:02, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Editorial note is racist

What kind of note is this???? “Buganda crisis (1962–1966) This section may contain an excessive amount of intricate detail that may interest only a particular audience. (July 2018)”

If you are on the Uganda wiki page reading the history of the country why would you not want to read the history however intricate it is? History is intricate and assuming people aren’t interested in it bc it’s intricate - it’s very hard to see this statement as anything other than totally racist. Oh wait I’m sure on the wiki page about any intricate history of the us or uk it says the same thing 73.162.227.51 (talk) 19:02, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
