Takahiro Tamura (田村高廣, Tamura Takahiro, 31 August 1928 – 16 May 2006) was a Japanese film actor.[1] He appeared in 100 films between 1954 and 2005. He and his younger brothers Masakazu and Ryō were known as the three Tamura brothers. They were sons of actor Tsumasaburo Bando.[2][3]

Biography

Tamura graduated from Doshisha University.[3][2][4] Tamura was working for a trading firm before he started his acting career but he decided to be an actor to repay his father Tsumasaburō's debt.[5] In 1953, he joined Shochiku and made his film debut with Onna no Sono.[3][2][4] In 1965, he won the Best Supporting Actor award at the 16th Blue Ribbon Awards for his role in The Hoodlum Soldier.[3][2] In 1970, he played the role of Mitsuo Fuchida in Tora! Tora! Tora!.[6] Tamura won the Mainichi Film Award for Best Actor award for his role in Muddy River in 1981.[6][4]

On television, Tamura appeared in a lot of jidaigeki television dramas.[3][6] In 1964, He appeared for the first time in an NHK taiga drama, Akō Rōshi. NHK tapped him the following year for the role of Kuroda Yoshitaka in Taikōki.[4] Among the jidaigeki series he has starred in Hissatsu series Tasukenin Hashiru.[7][4]

He died of cerebral infarction on 19 May 2006.[3][6] His final film appearance was in The Yakiniku mubi: Purukogi, released in 2007.[8][4]
