- Marko Dmitrović, scored recently in La Liga
- Tom King, the new world record holder for longest goal, so change Asmir Begovic as he has his record no longer.
Others to include
Placeholder for goalkeepers who ought to be on the list. Oldelpaso (talk) 11:00, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

- All those listed on the thread at WT:WPF, Campbell Money, Alex Stepney, everyone listed at [1] that we can verify, Marco Amelia, Massimo Taibi (he an d Michelangelo Rampulla are the only goalies to score from open play in Serie A [2]).
- Alan Fettis has scored but only as an outfield sub, so he shouldn't be on the list.
- Ricardo Jorge Novo Nunes scored from his own box once in a Portuguese Second Division game (not sure if we're considering non-top-tier as well) [3]. His opposite number that day was:
- Jerôme Palatsi, who had done the same a few years back [4], albeit on First Division this one. He's also credited with another goal while playing in France, which I can't source. KaizelerTC 17:17, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
Below are references and more info for the Brazilian goalkeepers that I mentioned in the WikiProject Football talk page:
- Bruno scored a free kick goal for Flamengo against Coronel Bolognesi, check this reference.
- Eduardo Martini scored a goal from his own box for Avaí against Paraná Clube, check this reference.
- There is a much better reference for Eduardo Martini (but in Portuguese) here. --Carioca (talk) 20:16, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- I've found one in English by FIFA. Oldelpaso (talk) 20:21, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- That's a very good reference. --Carioca (talk) 20:22, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- I've found one in English by FIFA. Oldelpaso (talk) 20:21, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- Tiago scored 13 goals for Portuguesa in 2007 and two for Vasco in 2008. Check this reference.
Hope that helps. --Carioca (talk) 18:06, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
Just to let you know that the article on goalkeepers already focuses this subject, and brings a couple new names. KaizelerTC 19:59, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- Arthur Birch is credited with 5 penalties for Chesterfield in the 1920s, but I don't have a particularly reliable source for it. Oldelpaso (talk) 08:48, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- Ditto Plymouth's Fred Craig. Oldelpaso (talk) 09:00, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
You may also want to include Ergilio Hato of Curacao. Nfm24 (talk) 11:28, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
Should Cup matches be included?
Belgian goalkeeper Mark de Clerck scored a goal for Aberdeen in a Scottish League Cup match against Berwick Rangers in 1980.[5] Best regards. Jogurney (talk) 18:03, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- I don't see why not, its a competitive professional match. Oldelpaso (talk) 18:05, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
Jimmy Glass
Probably the keeper who is better known for his goal that kept Carlisle United in the Football League than his exploits in goal! - fchd (talk) 21:17, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

- Just about to post something like this. If anyone can make sense from all this and find reliable sources, there's plenty more in here. Peanut4 (talk) 22:22, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
Jorge Campos
I checked his first few seasons (1990-91 through 1994-95) and found that 14 of the 15 goals he scored were while he was playing as an outfielder (typically Sergio Bernal was playing goalkeeper). I think it's wrong to list Campos as having 35 goals scored as a goalkeeper, when the actual number is likely less than 10. (Someone will need to go through mediotiempo.com and check his other matches to confirm). Jogurney (talk) 01:46, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- There are other keepers which are in similar position. I already added a footnote about Campos to say he also played as a striker. Peanut4 (talk) 01:49, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
Now he is missing from the list. It would be wise to at least explain to the general public why he is not on the list... Svartner (talk) 09:50, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hello! I find it odd to see he isn't in the list anymore, a player who is as famous as Ceni, Chilavert and Higuita for being a goalkeeper and scoring goals, so I believe he should be added again, of course not the goals he had scored at the times he played as a striker, but those he scored with the goalie's outfit. Of course, someone has to check all the matches he scored and see his starting position. Any objections to be re-added? Nialarfatem (talk) 17:10, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
Sources
Is it better to use a source which discusses the goal that the goalkeeper scored, rather than a generic "player information"-type site? For instance, Jimmy Glass has a link to soccerbase, which shows that he's scored a goal, but is it worth replacing it with one of the myriad sites that discuss him scoring the goal? El Pollo Diablo (Talk) 08:23, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
- I would say yes, a source that actually gives details of the goal(s) would be better. King of the North East 00:46, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure. You need a source to definitively say how many goals X or Y player scored. A source simply referring to Jimmy Glass' one goal, will not sure either way whether it was the only goal of his career, or whether he scored other goals. Peanut4 (talk) 00:50, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- I agree, but if source states that the player scored x goals and also includes details of opponents, dates, etc, it is superior to one that just affirms the fact that they have scored x goals in their career. King of the North East 01:29, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- I think that's a good suggestion. So the link to Soccerbase therefore is a good one, because it does give details of opponent, date etc. If I understand you correctly, the best source is one that gives a definitive number of goals for a career, but also provides a more indepth list of either goals or appearances, rather than just a bland list of "Goalkeeper A played x games and scored y goals." Peanut4 (talk) 01:35, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, if such a source can be found King of the North East 13:08, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Pre-Season
Do Pre-Season games count? Goalkeepers, like Adam Federici, have scored in these games. Shall we include them? [6] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Clyde1998 (talk • contribs) 10:04, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
Paul Robinson
Why is his goal against Watford not included? He scored a freekick that bounced over the head of Ben Foster. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.64.78.178 (talk) 07:54, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
- Robinson is included. He has scored two goals (he scored one for Leeds as well), is it possible that you were looking too far down the list? Oldelpaso (talk) 10:10, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
Name of article?
The name of the article should be changed to "List of goalscoring goalkeepers in soccer" instead of just goalscoring goalkeepers. Goalkeepers in i.e. Ice Hockey have made goals aswell, so the title is misleading and just plainly stupid. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.27.111.167 (talk) 00:07, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
- They aren't called Goalkeepers in ice hockey, they are called Goaltenders. -DJSasso (talk) 15:05, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Pat Jennings
You have Pat Jennings listed as an Arsenal Player. Whilst he finsihsed his career there his goal was scored for Tottenham Hotspur —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.148.180.192 (talk) 08:11, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Scored some free kick and penalty kick goals for Club Jorge Wilstermann and maybe the Bolivia National Football team. A memorable free kick goal against Oriente Petrolero in the 1st leg Final of the Bolivian National Football league on December 20, 2000 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.166.230.62 (talk) 12:28, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
Own goals
Presumably the list excludes own goals?! Ben Finn (talk) 16:37, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
Reformatting
Currently the list does not differentiate between goals scored from Penalty kicks or direct from Free Kicks, and those which are scored in open play. Arguably the article should be reformatted to include these breakdowns where available - as currently the table is heavily skewed in favour of "Keepers who take set-pieces" and it would be useful to get an idea of who are the most prolific keepers for 'last chance' goals at the other end of the field. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.110.33.194 (talk) 09:37, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Ricardo
In the 2004-2005 UEFA cup semi-final between AZ and Sporting Lisbon the goal for 3-2 was actually scored by Ricardo, Sporting's goalkeeper, in the 120th minute. I'm not sure if the goalscorer's name has been changed later, but at the end of the match it was credited to Ricardo. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.72.134.209 (talk) 14:10, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
Teams?
Column "Teams" refers to the teams for which they scored or where they were? If the latter, not the first option would be better? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.146.4.16 (talk) 20:45, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
Rene Higuita
I don't think his 3 goals for Colombia have been included. Should they? — Preceding unsigned comment added by BoredomJS (talk • contribs) 11:19, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Important: Proposition to remove column 'Team(s)'
The column is not relevant to the list, should be removed. --Brayan Jaimes (talk) 18:29, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- so its not relevant to see who they scored for? Don't be ridiculous... Jimmy Skitz's Answer Machine 19:31, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
Article length
As this article is already pretty long (and is only going to get longer), should we think about removing instances where a goalkeeper has only scored once, or splitting the list into two articles? Jmorrison230582 (talk) 11:14, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
- I'd be in favor of deleting those. -Koppapa (talk) 15:42, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

Scored one goal on penalty versus Dinamo Moscow. 1997 UEFA Intertoto Cup match: MSV Duisburg 3-1 Dinamo Moscow. https://www.transfermarkt.com/thomas-gill/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/100068/saison/1997/wettbewerb/UI/verein/52 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.56.78.39 (talk) 18:50, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
Kennedy Mweene appears twice, with 13 and 3 goals. He also plays for Mamelodi Sundowns now, according to the club's web site. Drackles (talk) 19:25, 16 December 2018 (UTC)
Mark Bosnich
I can't find any reference to him scoring a goal apart from his goal for Australia. Anyone know when/where this supposed goal in England is from? Macktheknifeau (talk) 08:24, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- I searched and didn't find anything about his possible goal for Aston Villa. It is now fixed with a single goal. Svartner (talk) 08:50, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
Ceni discrepancy
The note at the end of the table states he has scored a record number of free kicks (62), record number of penalties (70), record number of club goals (131)
, his entry and previous article text says 131 goals. Last time I checked 62 + 70 = 132, so at least one of the figures is incorrect. Spike 'em (talk) 17:13, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
- Also the refs used for him are way out of date, the latest I could find using them at archive.org have him on 64 and 107 goals.
- Rogério Ceni had all his goals recorded in video. The goal #132 is from his farewell (Dec 11, 2015), a commemorative game, on a match that envolved São Paulo legends from the 90s and 2005. Svartner (talk) 21:46, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
List from former category
I have made a sub-page at Talk:List of goalscoring goalkeepers/List from categories with a bare list from Category:Association football goalkeepers who have scored, which is being deleted per consensus at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2021 May 17#Category:Association football goalkeepers who have scored.
The category included names which were not already in List of goalscoring goalkeepers. Editors who are interested may wish to compare the lists, check sources and add any significant missing entries. – Fayenatic London 18:49, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
- I looked at the list and added practically all the goalkeepers who had some source proving the goal. Svartner (talk) 08:48, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
Several changes in the article
Hello everyone.
Due to some sources being out of date or permanently dead, I ended up making a lot of changes to the count.
Some goalkeepers have easy checking since they have the entire list of goals recorded (Rogério Ceni and Higuita, for example), others really have some gaps that lack a more specific search.
There are also divergences in databases such as Soccerway, National Football Teams, IFFHS, BDFA, etc. Other goalkeepers could only be added to the count thanks to specific sources from their respective countries.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask.

Suggestion: Split the List section
Reason: it's so hard to edit (and to read (load) also) that many bytes in just one section (lagging). Maybe better to split it into several section:
1st suggestion:
- >40
- 21–40
- 11–20
- 6–10
- 2–5
- 1
[This based on amount distribution]
2nd suggestion:
- >50
- 41–50
- 31–40
- 21–30
- 11–20
- 1–10 (or maybe split it again to 6–10 and 1–5, if still too many amounts)
[This based on equal range] EdhyRa (talk) 00:08, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
Goalkeepers goals in friendly matches
Hello, It is necessary that goalkeeper goals in friendly matches are not counted in this article.
Because in friendly matches, teams do not take the match seriously, and this helps increase the likelihood of goalkeepers scoring in these matches, which does not make this a rare occurrence. I will remove Roger Ceni's two goals in friendly matches with a note at the beginning of the article. --Mishary94 (talk) 06:35, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
- Based on what? Until the 1960s, friendly competitions or trips were common. In the case of Rogério Ceni, both friendly matches were held with media coverage, official rules respected, qualified referees, etc. Goals are considered in statistics both by the press coverage and by the club's official statistics. It can and should be mentioned that there are 129 official goals and 2 scored in friendly matches, but the total number of goals at professional level is 131. It is a widely documented event. Svartner (talk) 18:43, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
- What is the relationship between media coverage and the rules of the game with statistics? The friendly match between Manchester and Real Madrid in America in 2017 had the largest audience attendance in the current century, but these statistics are not considered official. In Wikipedia, all friendly matches are not mentioned as statistics or records.
- Regarding the club's official statistics. For example, Santos Club counted all of Pele's goals (both friendly and official) as an official statistic. Should we rely on this? It is known that clubs try to inflate the numbers of their players and their legends, so neutral sources are the primary reference, so look at these sources:
- – The Guinness Book of World Records states that Roger Ceni scored 129 goals, not counting friendly matches. See here
- – IFFHS, one of the most famous impartial sports sources specializing in statistics states that Roger Ceni scored 129 goals. see here
- --Mishary94 (talk) 11:17, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
- "What is the relationship between media coverage and the rules of the game with statistics?"
- Absolutely everything, as it determines that the matches in question were played at a professional level, with accepted rules. In Brazilian football, there are clear records of matches and accounting is carried out naturally.
- "In Wikipedia, all friendly matches are not mentioned as statistics or records"
- Again, based on what? Look at the article List of footballers with 500 or more goals. There is a count carried out by IFFHS, and another by RSSSF. There is no criterion superior to the other.
- "Regarding the club's official statistics. For example, Santos Club counted all of Pele's goals (both friendly and official) as an official statistic. Should we rely on this?"
- When we talk about total goals, definitely yes! The official goal count may exist, but without omitting the total amount considered by the club. Again I quote the article of List of footballers with 500 or more goals, the IFFHS considers 762, but in total, Pelé scored 1279 (recognized by the Guinness Book).
- "IFFHS, one of the most famous impartial sports sources specializing in statistics states that Roger Ceni scored 129 goals."
- But it's not the only one, and it's not infallible. For example, the IFFHS disregards five goals scored by Chilavert in the Paraguayan League. Higuita also scored goals in the Colombian second division that are ignored. And the article is not about the goals considered by the IFFHS, but about goals scored at professional level that have some record. Svartner (talk) 13:51, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- --Mishary94 (talk) 11:17, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
- Illogical. Do we include goalkeepers who have scored goals in charity matches (which receive media coverage and the rules of the game) on the list? If Pele scored 1,279 goals as you mentioned, why did the number of his goals range between 762 and 778 in the article you cited? Wikipedia depends on the player's statistics according to his official matches. Look at the career statistics in the Wikipedia article for every player, including Rogero Ceni. Do you see any of them whose friendly matches and goals were counted? The criteria in Wikipedia are clear, the main consideration is for official matches only, friendly matches may be mentioned separately. I hope @ItsKesha: will intervene as long as he is active in these articles. --Mishary94 (talk) 10:57, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
