Jewish-American

Seacrest is Jewish? Where is the reference for this? I've never seen or read anything which referred to Seacrest as Jewish.

A citation is needed Manic Hispanic 03:57, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

I think his name is John Aufenstein. 63.130.195.208 20:18, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Why should Aufenstein be Jewish? Many Germans have "Stein" as their surname or part of their surname without being Jewish. In fact, Aufenstein is the name of a castle in the Austrian Tirol, which had a noble family of the same name as it's Lord. That family seems though to be long extinct.

Trivial

According to fellow show host and judge, Simon Cowell, Ryan takes the longest to have his makeup put on. Simon stated on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno that Ryan takes a total of 10 hours to put on his makeup, longer than any other of the hosts of the show. -- AllyUnion (talk) 04:21, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I guess that's why he's the prettiest.... - Nunh-huh 04:30, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)

NOTE

Ryan's image/photo does not appear as it is supposed to when his page is accessed. 70.19.23.6 05:45, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

Fashion Designer

The Category "American Fashion Designers" is included on the page, but I see no reference to a fashion design career in the article.

The last sentence mentions his own line of designer clothes, the R Line. Chantessy 01:20, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

Swiss Americans?

Does anyone have a source that he's of significant Swiss descent? I couldn't find anything online. JackO'Lantern 18:21, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

I've never heard that, actually... Michael 07:07, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
It's bizarre, isn't it? You'd figure "Seacrest" was originally... well.... "Caviezel". Mad Jack 07:29, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I know...Who wouldn't? Michael 07:37, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Edit War

Demiurge and GIPU "63.164.145.85", I axsk that you cease your little edit war before you both break the "three edit rule". I've editted the article, myself, for proper use of brackets, linking and NPOV. It's fine now, too me, and I hope you two take and break and grow up. BTW, "Blocked" or not "63.164.145.85" clearly has editted the article—so the redundant summary is really lame.—Then again, I've found the blocking system has a few hole in it, myself. Rumors

I have added a section about the gay rumors to the article. While it is not uncommon for male celebrities to be rumored as gay, there are a few isolated celebrities for whom the rumors are more than just "typical gossip". One of these cases would be Tom Cruise. I feel Seacrest falls into that category as well based on the overwhelming amount of rumor and insinuation - particularly from other celebrities. I hesitated for well over a year before adding something to this article, but after Teri Hatcher's recent comments on Letterman, I think it was time to add a section. Hatcher has made comments in various media outlets insinuated that Seacrest intentionally used her to be photographed publicly with her in order to skirt off gay rumors.

While my phrasing may not be ideal, please do not remove the section en toto unless you have a good reason. Pacian 20:17, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

An anonymous user has already once deleted this section without noting a reason here on the talk page. I have reverted. Pacian 03:04, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Can you blame him? It's pretty stupid. How are celebrities (not even close friends, to my knowledge) saying/joking he's gay anymore valid than the average joe/jane? Ooh! Two women who barely know him say their "gayder" went off! (In a comedic fashion and media, no less.) Big woop! Not to mention the fact that this is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid or webzine. You wanna put it there? No one said anything. Don't bother giving us updates—even heard of an edit summary? Not everything is worth mentioning on the talk page, especially that GIPU's reasoning—or expect us to care. BTW, just for the record, Tom Cruise and his article are horrible examples. Being rumored to be gay and being Tom Cruise are completely different things.
In fact, you know what? I'm removing it myself. It was horribly written (half-ass, as they say) and cannot be considered neutral, intelligent or encyclopedic. ACS (Wikipedian) 03:19, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Photographs were published of Teri Hatcher and Seacrest kissing. I believe this logically qualifies them as being close, at least in SOME fashion. It makes it more valid because the average joe/jane does not have a one on one personal experience with the subject. Your attitude and manner of commenting here was unacceptable. Please review [Writers Rules of Engagement]. It is impossible to take anything you have said here seriously if you are going to attack me on a personal level. You have just called me unintelligent, a half-ass writer...not acceptable. I have explained to you in great detail why the addition is relevent, encyclopedic and notable on your talk page. You have yet to explain why it is NOT THESE THINGS, you have just stated that it isn't. I am reverting the edit. If you revert again, we will be hitting the 3 edit rule. Pacian 19:27, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
As you have already proven yourself unable to act civilly, and as you seem to have a reputation for this, I have submitted this case to the Mediation Cabal. Any edits to the section while the mediator is considering the issue will be considered an act of vandalism. Pacian 19:36, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
I was in a hurry. Give me a freaking break. Now...lessee. Seems you're taking fairly contructive criticism related to your addition—not you as a person—as an attack. Nice. Now, reading and considering what you wrote on my talk page, the point you are trying to make is clear and you might actually be producing some evidence. Thing is, you explain nothing about Teri's relationship to Ryan or what she would know. (though, from the feeling I got, the lady has problems and Ryan kinda pissed her off. Plus, considering the situation Ryan put Griffin in, she might be pissed, too, making both womenm biased.) Anyway, here's my enlighten, unbiased reader's view: Ryan might be making sad and ultimately poor attempts to appear heterosexual. However, the way the wrote the section didn't make this clear. In fact, you quite lierally said that the just because their stars they'd know with the ending sentence: "These and other comments from high-profile individuals lend more credence to the rumors (thus far unproven) than other celebrity 'gay rumors'".
Now, had you explained the Teri thing even half as well as you did on my talk page, and changed the overal messsage from "celebrities know best" to "these women have experienced first hand possible indications that Ryan is a "closeted celebrity male".
Then, rather than realize your mistake, you're claiming personal attacks and giving us a play-by-play of everything that'a happening in relation to your entry. I wasn't attacking you. I was, however, trying to explain that there's no need for you to log everything on this talk page. The section gets vandalized/removed? Fix it yourself and let it go. ": An anonymous user has already once deleted this section without noting a reason here on the talk page. I have reverted. Pacian 03:04, 14 May 2006 (UTC)" is a pointless entry. That, I'll admit, pissed me off and lead me to act.
BTW, you still left "friend" misspelled as "firend". ACS (Wikipedian) 18:07, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Well it would be good to put those "gay rumors" section in there after all. I mean Ryan Seacrest has had the biggest gay rumors more than most male celeberties, and one can only be put there if someone can "neutralize" the section to make it NPOV. As for me I think he is gay and he's using the St. Louis Cardinals and Teri Hatcher as a cover-up.
The gay rumors section has been posted and remained unchanged for quite long enough now. I even added the quote from the magazine interview where he refutes such speculation; the section should now be removed per WP:BLP. - Gilliam 08:53, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Seacrest himself regularly vistis his profile to 'clean-up' any gay references. It's a neatness thing.

One response, in May 2005, generated a substantial amount of media attention.[citation needed] An anonymous blogger using the pseudonym of "Assistant Atlas"<r ef>http://assistantatlas.blogspot.com</ref> offered a prize of $50 to anyone who could successfully defecate on Seacrest's Hollywood Walk of Fame star.<r ef>http://celebrityjustice.warnerbros.com/news/0505/18c.html</ref>

In the absence of documentation of sufficient mainstream media attention, this is unencyclopedic, and the standard of proof it requires should be in line with WP:BLP for two reasons:

  1. The assertion that it belongs in WP is a negative assertion about a living person, in that it implies he is so out of step with his audience that anonymous harassment (including the offer to pay someone for an illegal act) matters.
  2. Documentation in the article, rather than on the talk page, is unnecessary and thus arguably constitutes abetting of the blogger by informing an unnecessarily wide audience how to get the details.

BTW, i couldn't load the plugin needed for seeing anything at the Warner URL, and my Google

search - "ryan seacrest" site:celebrityjustice.warnerbros.com - did not match any documents. And the blog sub-site has hundreds of entries; unless it's really ad-spam, the subsite-wide URL is abusive, and invalid as a ref.

early tv history

I just fund something that said seacrest worked as a reporter for ktvu channel 2 news in san francisco. heres the link: http://www.ktvu.com/idol/10707204/detail.html —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.183.27.204 (talk) 00:10, 21 February 2007 (UTC).

John Renold Aufenstein

It would appear that the only references for this as an alternate name are Wikipedia and IMDB. Not great sources. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 10:19, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

wikipedia isn't a good source of information? then what's the point? 63.136.115.71 02:15, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

I tried adding knowingly false information on IMDb on Ryan Seacrest, info did not go through. They verify their information. Mghabmw 00:55, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Seacrest & Cooper Pic Caption

The picture caption with Seacrest and Anderson Cooper says he is "interviewing" Cooper. It looks more like a transition to Anderson Cooper 360, Cooper's show on CNN after Larry King Live. I'm pretty sure of this but I wanted to get a little more confirmation before changing it. --Doctorcherokee 01:22, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism

Could somebody please lock this page for new and unregistered users. I would but I don’t know how. There is a lot of vandalized content at the end of the page as well as some false information. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Boulder1990 (talkcontribs) 19:25, 18 March 2007 (UTC).

I think the page may have been protected for a few days but it is not anymore. I have the page on my watchlist for vandalism and every single day an unregistered user adds something along the lines of "is gay" or "is a homo" that I or someone else has to go in and correct. Is this grounds for protection? I will look into it myself but if anyone else knows, feel free to send me a message regarding how to best get the page protected. Thanks! Gillian416 19:26, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
I have semi-protected the page for the next few days. Michael 19:30, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Height issue

Seacrest is lying if he says he is 5 foot 9. According to imdb http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1101562/bio Simon Cowell is 5 foot 9. If you look at the following picture http://www.nickkcapress.com/2005KCA/images/kca/fullsize/52580720.jpg with Cowell and Seacrest, Cowell looks about 4 inches taller than Ryan. Cowell is definately not over 5 foot 9. He looks short on tv. Why is Seacrest making such a big deal out of this anyway. We don't care how tall you are man!!!!!!! If Wikipedia wants to be accurate they need to put down official height of 5 foot 7 or 6. Just my opinion.
