Primatial See?

[edit]

Why is the Archdiocese of Manila the "de facto" primatial see? As per wiki article on Primate (bishop):

"Functions can sometimes be exercised in practice (de facto), as by a de facto government, without having been granted by law; but since "primate" is today a title, not a function, there is no such thing as a "de facto" primate."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primate_(bishop)

There is no "de facto" primatial see.

Area

[edit]

What is the area of the archdiocese? The article currently says 549 sq km (212 sq mi), but the 2010 Annuario Pontificio I have at hand says 117 sq km (45 sq mi). This agrees with the info here: http://www.catholic-hierarchy.org/diocese/dmanp.html, which is drawn, at least in part, from the 2014 Annuario Pontificio. Moreover, there doesn't seem to have been any reduction or increase to the archdiocese's territory since 2010. carl bunderson (talk) (contributions) 20:04, 6 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Number of members

[edit]

In this edit, an IP user added to the infobox that the archdiocese had 347 members. I don't know whether the person was vandalizing or just confused, but that number doesn't make any sense. The "347 members" has been there since 2012, so if it was vandalism I would think it ought to have been corrected a long time ago. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 22:51, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Papal documents: purpose and format

[edit]

A Catholic Church document can be both a motu proprio and a papal bull. The former is a description of its purpose and origin: "of his own volition". The latter is a description of its format: "bulla (seal) affixed". Please do not insist on one-or-the-other, because the source we have provided describes it as both.
