This list of tallest buildings in Las Vegas ranks skyscrapers and towers in the city of Las Vegas, Nevada by height. The tallest structure in the city is currently the Stratosphere Tower, which rises 1,149 feet (350 meters) on the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip.[1] The tower also holds the distinction of being the tallest observation tower in the United States. However, since the Stratosphere Tower is not fully habitable, it is not considered a "building". The tallest building in the city is currently the 48-story Wynn Las Vegas, which rises 614 ft (184 m).[2]
The history of skyscrapers in Las Vegas began in the late 1990s, when hotels and casinos on the Las Vegas Strip began to rise upward in order to conserve space. Las Vegas is currently going through the largest building boom in the city's history, with several new residential and hotel towers proposed, approved, and under construction throughout the city. In what is being dubbed a "Manhattanization wave",[3] there are currently over 50 skyscrapers that are proposed, approved or under construction in the city that are planned to rise over 400 ft (122 m) in height.[4] The city boasts 4 completed skyscrapers over 500 feet (152 meters) tall, with another 12 under construction. Overall, the Las Vegas skyline is ranked (based upon existing and under construction buildings over 500 feet (152 meters) tall) third in the Pacific Coast region (after Los Angeles and San Francisco and 9th in the United States, after New York, Chicago, Miami, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, and Atlanta.[5]
The tallest development currently taking place in Las Vegas is Crown Las Vegas. The skyscraper is planned to stand at 1,888 ft (575 m), with 142 floors.[6] The skyscraper is currently in the proposal stages, and is schdeuled to be completed in 2011. Crown Las Vegas would likely become the tallest building in the city of Las Vegas, the state of Nevada and the entire Western Coast of the United States upon completion. in addition, it would stand as the 2nd-tallest building in the United States, after the 2,000 ft (610 m) Chicago Spire. The building would also surpass the Rose Tower in Dubai to become the tallest all-hotel building in the world.
