First Colonial High School is a high school in Virginia Beach, Virginia. First Colonial opened in 1966 by splitting students out of the former Virginia Beach High School. Virginia Beach High then became Princess Anne High School. First Colonial's mascot is the Patriots.
First Colonial runs a magnet program called the Legal Studies Academy, created to offer students a way to explore employment in the legal field. The school also has a joint Navy JROTC program with Cox High School, its traditional rival for First Colonial in sporting events and competitions.
First Colonial is one of five Virginia Beach high schools ranked in the top 1200 in Newsweek's 2006 ranking of American high schools.[1]
First Colonial is one of three public Virginia Beach high schools to have a club-level crew team, sharing rowing facilities with Princess Anne students. The First Colonial Crew Club competes in state and district regattas.
Along with Navy JROTC & crew, First Colonial has a state champion and national competing Mock Trial team. Their most consistently successful teams overall are Scholastic Bowl and Debate.

Scholastic Bowl
First Colonials' most popular academic based sport, coached by Steve Leland. He is known throughout the league for his winning smile and legendary pep talks, but has also recently been exposed as a horrible basketball player due to his embarrassing performance at the Faculty vs Seniors game. Their captain, Mark, has frequently been noted for his intelligence, leadership, and intimidating presence. Zachary's frenzied jokes make him the Flavor Flav to Mark's Chuck D.While his impressive knowledge of health questions greatly contribute to many a match, his illusive mastery of technological questions is still a sticking point. Although his vast knowledge of "holy land" life comes in handy at times, he himself has wondered "how did i get on television?". However, the team is always grateful for the power of Yahweh. Ian's extensive knowledge of Democratic Party politics and black history have contributed to his varsity position, although an ongoing blood feud with Coach Steve Leland may derail his future playing time, and membership to the 4-man "dream team". Ethan knows some obscure geography as well as advanced topics in chemistry. Much speculation has swirled around Jimmy's playing state, as much of his time has been spent pursuing a career in the popular PC strategy game Starcraft. Jimmy will make an incredible impact on the team, given that he is the only team member to know anything about math, if he can ever get out of detention so he can attend practice on Thursdays.
The team also competes in the local Battle of the Brains competition. With a victory over Franklin on December 5th, First Colonial has moved into the quarterfinals. Finally, the much awaited and legendary "dream team" assembled for the first time on television. One of First Colonial's most impressive moments ever came when the "dream team" of Mark, Ian, Zach, and Evan came within one question of sweeping the "witches" category round.
The Scholastic Bowl team is currently embroiled in what some have come to call the Wednesday-Thursday Controversy. It refers to the ongoing debate over when practice is held- whether it is on Wednesdays or Thursdays, and what the attendance requirements are. Some varsity members have been known to show up on either Wednesday or Thursday, although Thursday is shaping up to be varsity day. The confusion is unlikely to clear up soon, unless a ruling is made by Leland. However, a resolution is looking promising, as Leland has recently given official recognition that a controversy exists.
The team has also drawn criticism for its involvement with the shadowy Weapon X project. Some team members have disappeared for weeks at a time for what they have called "vacations" into the snowy Canadian wilderness. Many rumors have swirled regarding the nature of the team's involvement, including work to the Gu-Fro, but no solid information is known at this time.
Currently, they sport a 01000110010101010100001101001011010010010100111001000111001000000101001101010111010001010100010101010100 record.
