First Colonial High School is a high school in Virginia Beach, Virginia. First Colonial opened in 1966 by splitting students out of the former Virginia Beach High School. Virginia Beach High then became Princess Anne High School. First Colonial's mascot is the Patriots.

First Colonial runs a magnet program called the Legal Studies Academy, created to offer students a way to explore employment in the legal field. The school also has a joint Navy JROTC program with Cox High School, its traditional rival for First Colonial in sporting events and competitions.

First Colonial is one of five Virginia Beach high schools ranked in the top 1200 in Newsweek's 2006 ranking of American high schools.[1]

First Colonial is one of three public Virginia Beach high schools to have a club-level crew team, sharing rowing facilities with Princess Anne students. The First Colonial Crew Club competes in state and district regattas.

Along with Navy JROTC & crew, First Colonial has a state champion and national competing Mock Trial team. Their most consistently successful teams overall are Scholastic Bowl and Debate.

Scholastic Bowl

The Scholastic Bowl is First Colonial's most popular academic based sport, coached by Steve Leland.

The Scholastic Bowl team is currently embroiled in what some have come to call the Wednesday-Thursday Controversy. It refers to the ongoing debate over when practice is held- whether it is on Wednesdays or Thursdays, and what the attendance requirements are. Some varsity members have been known to show up on either Wednesday or Thursday, although Thursday is shaping up to be varsity day. The confusion is unlikely to clear up soon, unless a ruling is made by Leland. However, a resolution is looking promising, as Leland has recently given official recognition that a controversy exists.

The team has also drawn criticism for its involvement with the shadowy Weapon X project. Some team members have disappeared for weeks at a time for what they have called "vacations" into the snowy Canadian wilderness. Many rumors have swirled regarding the nature of the team's involvement, including work to the Gu-Fro, but no solid information is known at this time.

Currently, they sport a 01000110010101010100001101001011010010010100111001000111001000000101001101010111010001010100010101010100 record.
