BURN-E (promoted with an interpunct as BURN·E) is a short film by Pixar Animation Studios based on the movie WALL-E that is attached to the movie's DVD and Blu-ray release on November 18, 2008.[1][2]

The short film, directed by WALL-E lead animator Angus MacLane,[3] was produced at the same time as WALL-E, and is included as bonus material to the DVD and Blu-ray release.[4] BURN-E features music composed and conducted by J.A.C. Redford, who was also orchestrator on the film WALL-E.[5][6]

The short film is based on a character who was briefly seen when WALL-E and EVE fly around the Axiom starliner, and enter through a door, locking a welder robot outside of the ship. This character is a robot named BURN-E, who is seen banging his fists against the door, and ultimately realizing that he has been locked out.[7][8][9]

Synopsis

After a meteorite strikes a running lamp on the Axiom, a robot named BURN-E (Basic Utility Repair Nano Engineer)[10] is sent to repair it. WALL-E and EVE's adventures indirectly prevent BURN-E from finishing the job and cause him to waste the spare lamps, much to the dismay of SUPPLY-R, the storage robot in charge of dispensing them. Down to the last spare, BURN-E finally installs the lamp but is locked out (a scene that is featured in the actual film) and tries to get back inside. After multiple futile attempts, BURN-E cuts a hole in the door and slips in, only to be flung back out when Auto tilts the ship. When the ship is corrected, it goes into warp and heads back to Earth, with BURN-E pinned to the hull by the momentum. When the ship lands, BURN-E enters and finds that it is now deserted. He ends up in an escape pod and spots SUPPLY-R through a window, but as he is trying to wave to him, BURN-E accidentally launches the pod, which hurtles through the air and crashes to the ground. Flinging the hatch away from the pod, BURN-E jumps out and successfully tests the new lamp, which is immediately smashed by the flying hatch.
