Hi, welcome to the twelfth volume of my talk page.

Old Dutch Church, and nrhp hds

Hi Daniel, glad to see u at work on that one, as I am partial to the Minard Lafever ones and would be happy to see a good full article there. I was afraid i might cause an edit conflict for u, but thot i should look up and add the NHLSUM reference. I won't edit more there now, will look forward to see what you develop. I've done a good amount of pic-taking recently in cny, by the way, will be able to add pics to many articles.

About nrhp hds, i know u r somewhat aware of there having been some contention btwn me and another editor in CT articles. With time and a good amount of communication, we have made a lot of progress and have basic agreement for most types of nrhp hds which were originally all in contention. There remain a number of open merger/split proposals to address and close with decisions, and some other issues open as well or yet to be discussed, now with more moderation on both sides. The other editor and i agreed we would take it down several notches, and agree to abide by third party decisions. In particular we'd be happy if you would be willing to help mediate/arbitrate/judge: would you consider this?

There is now a pretty large body of past discussion at Talk:List of RHPs in CT including an RFC there and including a corresponding archive, at Talk:List of RHPs in VT, at Talk:List of RHPs in RI, and at individual NRHP HD articles and town/village/hamlet articles referenced from those. I wouldn't want to ask anyone to go through all of that, and a lot was said which does not need to be rehashed. What we'd appreciate is someone willing to be an invited discussion leader and then closer in merger/split proposals in selected specific cases, to be decided on the merits of information about the extent of geographical and historical overlap in those cases. It would be important, I think, to have at least some decisions close in favor of merger against my own previously stated opinions (and I would hope for some decisions closing in favor of splitting/no merger, too). What I myself have argued is that two separate articles should be allowed, at least until adequate information is developed, and then a merger proposal could go either way. Additional information has developed in some cases now and some would probably be ready for a closing-type decision, perhaps following one more flurry of moderate discussion. Would you be willing to help, in a limited way, in resolving some of these, in that kind of role? doncram (talk) 16:30, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:TPM logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:TPM logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Re: Followup

Cool. I have hardly gone through this weekends images. I uploaded one from my Albany trip - see here - it came out well, shows the angle behind it too.Mitch/HC32 16:27, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a bit more dubious, I fear

I'm not going to gainsay what you did, but his open admission of a desire to "promote" (and he did use that verb) his favorite genre of music, seemed to me to be insufficiently constructive. I hope you turn out to be right, of course; heaven knows I'm an old-time folkie myself. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:05, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Hornbook -- a new WP:Law task force for the J.D. curriculum

Hi Daniel Case,

I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in United States legal articles to take a look at WP:Hornbook, the new "JD curriculum task force".

Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.

  • Over the course of a semester, each subpage will shift its focus to track the unfolding curriculum(s) for classes using that casebook around the country.
  • It will also feature an extensive, hyperlinked "index" or "outline" to that casebook, pointing to pages, headers, or {{anchors}} in Wikipedia (example).
  • Individual law schools can freely adapt our casebook outlines to the idiosyncratic curriculum devised by each individual professor.
  • I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using WP:Hornbook as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.

What you can do now:

1. Add WP:Hornbook to your watchlist, {{User Hornbook}} to your userpage, and ~~~~ to Wikipedia:Hornbook/participants.
2. If you're a law student,
(You don't have to start the club, or even be involved in it; just help direct me to someone who might.)
3. Introduce yourself to me. Law editors on Wikipedia are a scarce commodity. Do knock on my talk page if there's an article you'd like help on.

Would an article like this be notable?

I'm thinking of making an article for Albany streets along the lines of articles on streets in other cities, such as List of streets in Baltimore, Maryland, and List of streets in Hamilton, Ontario, probably more like the last one than the others. Listing only the important streets and their name changes, who/what they are named for, historical significance, notable buildings along the street, etc. I thought of this because several of our articles mention by name certain streets and it might be good to have a central article they can link to. That's my thought. I didnt know if these other list of street articles were frowned upon. Your opinion is appreciated. There are lots of sources I can use including the NYS museum website on colonial Albany history, their page about street names has been used several times, including in Clinton Avenue Historic District and Pastures Historic District talking about name changes (the entire state museum website is down until Monday for maintenance so all links are out right now).Camelbinky (talk) 19:04, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Panel

Thanks for your kind words, I do remember our conversation at the conference. Yes, getting editors to work together can sometimes be a real challenge, it can be like herding cats! Not surprising really, since each Wikipedia editor has to be self-sufficient, a self-starter and all those things. I think that a few of our editors probably never look at the Project talk page or the Project page. I may send a few people a reminder that sometimes really important and interesting things come up there, so it is worth checking in every so often. It's really a delicate thing to handle other people right, not to be too pushy, and to respect people's individual strengths while still trying to get the overall project into reasonable shape as it grows. Good luck with the Fashion and Urban studies and planning Projects. Actually as it happens I do know a fair bit about fashion and fashion history, but I am not active in that on Wikipedia, although once in a great while I do a few edits to a garment-related (like boardshorts or fabric-related page (like linen). Best wishes to you, Invertzoo (talk) 21:28, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to be the first to congratulate you on your GA promotion of Central Troy Historic District. I took the liberty of changing the Wikiproject page to reflect it and put up the photo of River Street to highlight it. Question

I'm getting articles going for all the Van Rensselaers that were patroons but at least a few of them were named Kiliaen or Jeremias, and none of them have suffixes (i.e. Jr, II, III...). How do I distinguish them in article names, especially since some of them have no known birth or death dates? Would Kiliaen van Rensselaer (fourth patroon of Rensselaerswyck) be prudent (and if that's the case, should the first one get a rename to conform to that system?) Seems too much, but it may be the only way... Let me know what you think. wadester16 15:49, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I will look into that:)

Sulgrave club.

Greetings, Daniel Case. I'm interested in creating a page on the Sulgrave club in the District of Columbia, in Washington D.C. I have a sketch of the article worked out in my sandbox, but I'm not sure it's ready for creation yet. As you are in the WikiProject related to National Register of Historic Places, and an administrator, I was hoping you could help me; if there are any tweaks or fixings you think could be done to improve the page so it is its best before creation, I'd appreciate the information. Thanks! Mess around with the guy in shades all you like - don't mess around with the girl in gloves! (talk) 09:22, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NRHP Question

Where do I find the NRHP Reference# and the exact date this was added to the NRHP? I can't seem to find anything in the application (and, as a comparison, the "added" date for Little Red Schoolhouse (Brunswick, New York) was listed online, but that wasn't available in 1988). Thanks. wadester16 16:08, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
