Einar, (aka Carptrash I am embarassed to use your handle), yes, we have similar interests, and now that I have time I am actually re-enacting your art interests. I just found out about the storyteller pottery currently (and I believe recently, within the previous 3 decades) used by the Pueblo people in the retail potter market. I am not quite sure where to put this in an article. I have a reference which lists the current authentic Pueblo potters. (again, not quite sure where to put this). The Field Museum in Chicago within the last two years showed some work by modern Pueblo potters which shows the high skill level of the newest generation of potters. Discussion moved from user page.

Firstly

I have declared all my edits to be a diabolic mixture of opinion and original research.

This is exactly your problem, though I understand the difficulty sometimes, none of your edits should have any opinion in it. Wikipedia is about facts, not opinion, the two are opposites. Peoples opinion differ, you must leave all emotion out of it. Origional research works, you just have to be able to decyfer between the facts and the researcher's opinion. Sorry to edit here, I just wanted you to read this.--Az81964444 (talk) 05:34, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think I will move this to my talk page, but posting on my user page to get my attention is fine. When I wrote the above passage I was being sarcastic. However at any time that you discover a violation of either of those principles - Opinion and Original research in my edits please feel free to point it out. Carptrash (talk) 17:03, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Carp, please take a look. I think I put in a link to the wrong award. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 18:57, 1 December 2009 (UTC) Stan[reply]

I think (opinion) that it's okay now. Carptrash (talk) 21:10, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've always admired a great philosopher/writer/analyst, who once wrote (self effacingly) that his work consisted of a "diabolic mixture of opinion and original research". As I approach 25K in edits, I have found that it is sometimes impossible to separate fact from other 'stuff', and that one cannot create artificial boundaries when the content and subject do not so allow. The article is much improved. Thank you. If you come up with other thoughts they would be appreciated. Best to you. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 22:27, 1 December 2009 (UTC) Stan[reply]
My grandfather was a member of that church when it was built, his family (my father and his sisters) went there, and my grandfather was buried from there. It is truly a magnificent building that should not be overlooked. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 22:32, 1 December 2009 (UTC) Stan[reply]
Interestingly, this article was apparently started by my cousin, a professional writer (formerly for the Hamtramck Citizen and presently for another paper in Oakland County, who has written books about Hamtramck history and Michigan architecture. While his thoughts and words largely survive in this article, they were greeted with Wiki scorn in some of the first edits. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 22:37, 1 December 2009 (UTC) Stan[reply]

As I recall there is some very nice sculpture on the facade of St. F and I have long tried to learn who did it - to no avail. If you have any insights I'd love to hear them. Oh yes, thatnks for understanding the jist of my opinion and original research statement. Not everyone does. Carptrash (talk) 01:06, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Einar, I don't. You might try contacting Greg Kowalski, my cousin. He may work for the Oakland Press or a paper in Rochester, Michigan. He knows a lot of architecture in Detroit, and may have some insight. Not sure. The other alternative would be to contact the parish directly -- although I don't know anyone there personally, and don't know that they know the answers either. I see if I can find an e-mail address for Greg, and if I do I'll get back to you. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 01:11, 2 December 2009 (UTC) Stan[reply]

Here's what I discovered so far. Attention: Greg Kowalski Title: Editor News Source: Eccentric-Birmingham/Bloomfield Edition Address: 805 East Maple Street City: Birmingham State: MI - Michigan Zip: 48009 Country: USA Phone: 248-901-2560 Fax: 248-644-1314 Greg Kowalski, Birmingham Eccentric, 6200 Metropolitan Parkway, Sterling Heights, MI 48312, or e-mail to gkowalski@hometownlife.com 7&6=thirteen (talk) 01:15, 2 December 2009 (UTC) Stan[reply]

Thanks. I've tried the parish before, to no avail. Is this the same Greg K who co-authored "Art Deco in Detroit" with Rebecca Benno? I will send him something ,an email probably, soon. Carptrash (talk) 02:15, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
One and the same. Hope that helps. Pass on my regards, and let him know that you and I have tried to polish (not Polish) his work in Wikipedia. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 03:27, 2 December 2009 (UTC) Stan[reply]

Thanks for your help.

Carp/Einar, when I was just starting, you were a great help. A good (and friendly) foundation helps. This is my 25,000th edit, and you helped make that possible. Best to you. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 18:10, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Crediting of images

Since you always credit your images to E.E.K., I've always assumed that E.E.K. is your real name. If I'm correct, would you be willing to put a statement to that effect on your userpage? The issue came up in this featured article candidacy: someone said that one of your images was suspect because it was uploaded by Carptrash but credited to E.E.K. Without a doubt the FA is going to fail (the article even has a cleanup template currently!), but I wonder if clarifying the name issue might help with other images down the road. Of course, if I'm wrong or if you're not willing to make such a statement, I'm not going to complain. Nyttend (talk) 20:02, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Einar Einarsson Kvaran, Einar E Kvaran, Einar Kvaran, EE Kvaran, EEK, eek and eeeek are all the same person, me. Carptrash (talk) 20:46, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the statement; I was already quite confident that Einar was your name, but someone who hadn't previously encountered you was unsure. And thanks, too, for the interesting and enjoyable story :-) Nyttend (talk) 06:57, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear EEK:

An earlier version of Wiki had a better quality reproduction of your photo of the Padre Martinez memorial in Taos.

My name is Fr. Juan Romero, born in Taos, ordained for Los Angeles Archdiocese in 1964, and author of RELUCTANT DAWN. I worked closely with Senator Cisneros, sculptor Huberto Maesstas and many others for the erection of the memorial that took place in 2006.

I was intrigued that so soon after the installation, unveiling, of the larger than life-sized likeness, your fine photo appeared in the cyberspace encyclopeida.

In the near future I will be publishing another work on Padre Martinez--THE HONOR OF HIS HOMELAND--and would like to use your photo on the cover. May I?

I have read the copyright matieral re: photos and statues including the item by your English comrade Solipsist about "recent photograph of a recent sculpture." Nevertheless, I would like to have your OK. With your permission, I would prefer not to use the pseudonym Carptrash or any AKA variant of EEK. May I use Charles K. or the full last name?

Please respond to me at <juanrvi@aol.com>.

Mil gracias Fr. Juan Romero <thetaosconnection.com>

Thanks for taking the time to put the Ronettes information back in the Hal Blaine article with the cites and NPOV. I actually added a different quote and cite but still about the same song. That song's place in R&R history should not have to be cited, but it was not too difficult getting one. I see thqt I first arrived at the page in Aug 2005, a while ago Carptrash (talk) 14:40, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, the portrait in question doesn't appear to be online (and the more I think of it, the more I think that it was a portrait of him by Reginald Marsh, actually). But there is a photograph on Flickr, from the Archives of American Art, which is of age to be PD. In a little while I'll upload it.

Hi, I noticed this image has been orphaned, but the rationale was not explained properly to you as the uploader. The image is of an album. Wikipedia is okay with album cover images as long as the article is specifically about that album. If you, or anybody, is interested in making an article for the album itself within the next week then the image could be used for that article. If you do that be sure to remove the orphan tag on the image page. - Steve3849 talk 01:10, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We Could Use Your Help

Hi, I discovered an old comment of yours on a public art article regarding sculpture photo uploads/copyright issues and I thought you might be interested in a new WikiProject that is tackling several of the issues you've been up against. Wikipedia Saves Public Art is spearheaded by two people who are going to be taking Wikipedia's role in public art by storm. During our graduate class to begin this project we came upon many issues regarding derivative works/copyright and more recently the issue of original research in describing conditions of sculptures and utilizing photos as sources. You may be interested in the discussions going on on our talk page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Wikipedia_Saves_Public_Art#Discussion_original_research Thanks! HstryQT (talk) 03:05, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nice to meet you! I'm glad we share a similar interest. While we've made some headway in getting Wikipedia Saves Public Art off the ground and running, clearly there is a lot more to do. One of the things we're assessing now is a state of affairs for public art in WP.
  • How many articles are out there?
  • How do we get them all together?
  • What makes a good article about public art?
  • How do we accurately describe the condition of an artwork without it being original research?
  • How do we cite an article that doesn't have any verifiable sources, but it clearly an important work of art?
  • How do we expand this project globally.

One of the ways that we're exploring the first two points is through this competition.

We're definitely open to your help and support! Thanks! --Richard McCoy (talk) 18:02, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

Noticed your name at the talk page of the new Death Project - is there anything that you might want to know or anything you might offer in terms of how the project has started? SatuSuro 04:49, 23 December 2009 (UTC) We can find anything via a word or two - there is plenty of time - we have a large project to fill - it still needs lots of gentle slow chekcing through the whole of WP as there are articles and categories thta belong but havnet been linked yet - welcome aboard! doesnt matter if we are slightly askew from your interests - we might help you find things anyways SatuSuro 05:01, 23 December 2009 (UTC) Aha a person of similar condition - pleased to meet - i fit that description as well - a slow and typewriter written explanation shall follow suite by pigeon post along a long thing that a well known australian comedian calls a dog (the internet) - it shall pass as we may sooner than later. SatuSuro 08:11, 23 December 2009 (UTC) Ok - check out what I did with it and if you can get the walking stick out - follow along the track that the category belongs to and where it came, and we're on the way... maybe - categories are not rated btw SatuSuro 08:23, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Nancy Atherton, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.stopyourekillingme.com/A_Authors/Atherton_Nancy.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 20:24, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Carp: I googled the ISBN numbers. You have to eliminate the "-10" or "-13" and the Colon. Easy as pie. You may need to correct the numbers I just through in to the series. I want to make this look different. It's just a f'in list. If we need to we could put in content for each of the books with a reference to a review. Some of our overzealous bot friends want to speedily delete everything. If we intersperse text into this, then we've gotten totally around the claim. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 22:34, 26 December 2009 (UTC) Stan[reply]
Am dropping a note to the bot, saying that the bot is confused, we have improved the article Nancy Atherton, and there is no copyright violation. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 01:09, 27 December 2009 (UTC) Stan[reply]
In addition, one could use templates for biographies of living persons, more biographical information, and compilations of sales (e.g., New York Times best seller lists, etc., to flesh this out. Hope that helps, and the bot goes away. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 01:30, 27 December 2009 (UTC) Stan[reply]
Links to reviews would be good. I put in a link to Library Thing on one of the books. Could do other reviews from other sources. I don't know that each book merits an artile, but it could. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 13:45, 27 December 2009 (UTC) Stan[reply]

In leaving the note below, I noted this discussion and marked the Nancy Atherton article for the crime task force. If there's something further I can do to assist, such as providing a citation, let me know. (And if you two want to join the task force, you'd be welcome; there's a link on my user page.) Accounting4Taste:talk 17:18, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking at this article because no one had marked it as patrolled; the subject didn't seem notable to me, and my inclination was that it should be redirected to her first husband's article, but in a cursory examination of his page I noticed that it's asserted that she was briefly a Lieutenant-Governor, which would be enough notability for me. However, the Lieutenant-Governor assertion is not in the body of her article, only his. Do you feel like taking on the job of making this article unambiguously notable? (I also note that there are copyvio issues that I haven't looked into but with which you are familiar.) Your comments would be welcome; if you felt like marking the article as patrolled, that would also be welcome (I'm still up in the air about its notability until I see a citation). It has a long history. In short: a user spammed his genealogy across 100s of WP pages a very long time ago. A lot of that is total, unverifiable & straight-up made-up crap. As it's been sitting there for 6+ years for someone to to do something about it. So today I decided to chainsaw thru most obvious of it. Origin of photograph; File:LHPolarBear3.jpg

Hi. The Wikimedia Foundation received an e-mail about this image (Ticket:2010011610025557), and I wanted to just clarify with you its origin. Did you photograph this sculpture yourself, or did you scan or photograph this image from the unpublished manuscript Cemetery Sculpture in America? I cannot quite tell from your description, but it seems as though you may be indicating the latter. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:45, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Sorry for not being more clear. :) Those tickets are only viewable by a few individuals, but I was anchoring it in case it was needed for future reference. When talking to an obviously experienced Wikipedia, I presume familiarity with the OTRS system, but I need to remember that the system is still not all that widely publicized. Thanks for clarifying the origin of the image. As I said, I wasn't entirely sure what your description meant.
The issue at hand concerns its orientation. According to the letter we received, the image is reversed. That does seem to be true, looking at [1] and [2]. Is it possible that your image was flipped? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 18:05, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've flipped it. --Tagishsimon (talk) 18:38, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Carptrash and thanks, Tagishsimon. The computer I have now, alas, has a real sparsity of graphics control. :/ (I don't even have Photoshop; I have "Photoshop Elements", which could probably do it but I'm so heartsick at the loss of a real graphics program that I've scarcely touched it. I'll let our correspondent know that she was correct and that the image has been repaired.
Interesting interview. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 19:13, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Puebloan Indians - Discussion

I posted there an answer to your post recently and would like you to look there. Thanks. --VM (talk) 14:09, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

I appreciate the complement about my article. Michael Kodysz (talk) 14:12, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"airborne Mayan god"

A wonderful addition! -- LaNaranja (talk) 15:28, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, I saw her at S. H. Kress & Co. I was distracted by the object she's holding, which in Kress context appears to be a giant Tussy Moderne automatic cologne spritzer. -- LaNaranja (talk) 20:41, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A really neat window and architectural accoutrement.

Carp: Hare and Three hares. I had not encountered this before. Thought you might enjoy that. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 19:44, 27 January 2010 (UTC) Stan[reply]

zinn quote from wikiquotes

"Capitalism has always been a failure for the lower classes. It is now beginning to fail for the middle classes."

Looks like he was either a communist or an anarchist but since you were nice I tried to change it to socialist before the vandals showed up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Torckey (talkcontribs) 05:20, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks it looks like the thought police are in full swing here tonight so I'm done for a while. I never thought any of Zinn's fans would deny that he was a socialist or an anarchist. I guess some people really can't handle reality. --Torckey (talk) 05:28, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
