The following is a list of colleges and universities in Houston located within the city limits.
Public universities
- University of Houston, 4800 Calhoun Road, Houston, Texas, is the flagship institution and the central administrative headquarters of the University of Houston System—a state system of higher education which includes three other universities and two multi-institution teaching centers.[1]
- University of Houston–Clear Lake, is an upper-level university located on a 524-acre (2.12 km2) campus at 2700 Bay Area Boulevard, Houston, Texas. With an enrollment of more than 7,600 students, it is the third-largest institution within the University of Houston System[2]
- University of Houston–Downtown, One Main Street, Houston, Texas. With an enrollment of more than 12,000 students, it is the fifteenth-largest university in Texas and the second-largest institution of the University of Houston System.[3]
- Texas Southern University is one of the largest historically black universities in the United States. Located at 3100 Cleburne Street in Houston, Texas, the university was established on March 3, 1947 by the Texas Legislature.[4]
Private colleges and universities
- Houston Baptist University, 7502 Fondren Road, Houston, Texas, offers more than 50 undergraduate majors. Pre-professional programs range from Biblical Languages to Nursing. [5]
- Rice University, established in 1912, is a private Tier 1 research university located at 6100 Main, Houston, Texas[6][7] Rice enrolled 3,001 undergraduate, 897 post-graduate, and 1,247 doctoral students and awarded 1,448 degrees in 2007. The university is organized into eight schools offering 40 undergraduate degree programs,[8] 51 masters programs, and 29 doctoral programs.[9][10]
- University of St. Thomas, located at 3800 Montrose, Houston, Texas, is a comprehensive Catholic university, grounded in the liberal arts. Founded by 1947 by Basilian Fathers, it serves as the only Catholic university in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.[11]
- Westwood College, is a nationally accredited college with a local campus located at 7322 Southwest Freeway, Houston, Texas[12]
- Universal Technical Institute
- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Houston), 16441 Space Center Blvd., Suite D-200, Houston, TX 77058, offers both Bachelor and Master degree programs. Programs range from Aeronautics, Education, Management to Aerospace studies. [13]
- Court Reporting Institute of Dallas, is a private court reporting school where students can earn their court reporters certificate. There are locations in Dallas and Houston.[14]
